On my hero I've put some shortcuts to contacts on the front screen but they all are labeled "call (name) " Does anybody know how to rename the description underneath with "cell" or "work"

I think I messed my phone up trying to unroot it. When I hold down the "Home" and "Power" key to bring up the system menu it doesn't come up. What does come up is an exclamation triangle with a little phone underneath. I then have to do a battery pull and start it normally. I can, however, bring up the system wipe by holding down "Home", "Back Key", and "Power". I did the wipe and tried once again to bring up the system menu with no such luck. I've downloaded the Sprint RUU 1.56.6 and installed it onto my phone. It has been since this install that I couldn't access the system menu. Has it deleted it? What do I do?! I just want my phone the way it was when I got it.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI wasn't even aware of a separate section for the Sprint Hero until it was pointed out in the HTC Hero section. The reason being that when I see HTC Hero, I would not in a million years even think of scrolling down to Sprint HTC Hero.
By renaming this section, you will actually make sure they're side by side with each other and eliminate the confusion.
So I flashed CM6 tonight and everything seemed to go fine.However, I have NO SERVICE at all with it. I did revert back to previous stock ROM and had service just fine.Reinstalled CM6 thinking maybe that would fix it - no go.If it is not one thing, it is another anytime I try to install a new ROM.

I see the icon in the notifications bar but Google maps is saying i have to turn on the actual gps. if that is the case what is the setting to allow network to determine location for. I did some searching with mixed responses some people say cell triangulation works on sprint and some say it doesn't. and some say it just the newer version of google maps that it doesnt work with.. Im hoping its just the towers near my home. I will double check when im in a different location. anyone have it working with Google maps?***Update***** had the wrong setting ticked i figured it out a few minutes after i posted this. next time ill spend at least an hour before posting a useless new thread.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.
So, I installed the N1 News and Weather App and find it to be awesome!
My question...are there any other apps from the N1 or other android phones that will work on the Hero?
My alarm clock on the HERO doesnt work now, i set the alarm but it doesnt go off. Seemingly it might be an app which is stopping it from working? is it possible=? and also how might i find out which app it is thats stopping it.

Query: Can GPS enabled apps, work on the phone, without cell serivce. IE can you pre-load say all the US map and POI info into the phone so it can be used as a standalone GPS in the middle of no where.

Ok when I download or upload my music from a cd, the album artwork never shows up in itunes for me. So I usually have to manually copy album Pics from the net and paste them in the info section. However my hero either doesn't show the artwork or replaces my pic with some other random artwork pic. Anyone experience this and know how to fix this?

Is the reason why it wont work because im rooted(using fresh 2.0)?
when i download ringtones they come in as .dm files. how do i get them to work. i used to just go to the Internet and get them from the download history, but i lost all that when i ruled my phone. i have astro but can not play them from my card, so i can not add them as ringtones.

Also, when I look at open apps, random things like Sprint Navigation is open most the time, I haven't used it in weeks and if I keep killing it, how does it keep opening? Not really sure this thing does too much.
