The GF says my EVO is too big, and I now got her off her BB and into a hero. So, I will be popping in here and there and wanted to say hi.First steps:
I'm going to let her play with it for the weekend.I'm going to root it.I'll set up apps and such.I will probably look at froyo for it. I am pretty sure it won't get as much work as my EVO.

I went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.
So, I installed the N1 News and Weather App and find it to be awesome!
My question...are there any other apps from the N1 or other android phones that will work on the Hero?
My alarm clock on the HERO doesnt work now, i set the alarm but it doesnt go off. Seemingly it might be an app which is stopping it from working? is it possible=? and also how might i find out which app it is thats stopping it.

So I usually have to manually copy album Pics from the net and paste them in the info section. However my hero either doesn't show the artwork or replaces my pic with some other random artwork pic. Anyone experience this and know how to fix this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get ringtones to work in 2.1. I uninstalled Quick Settings but that didn't help. The settings don't seem to stick once you accept the ringtone you want and exit. Wtf? Any ideas?

Follow the instructions by Google, or if you are experienced, in the device manager, install a driver for ADB Interface or similar. So i go to were it directed me to when you click on google ^ USB Driver for Windows | Android Developers I download the sdk which i thought i already had on my computer (so watever) I follow all the instructions and some from TheUnlockr.com - Cell Phone How To's, Phone Reviews, and Wireless News! How To: Set Up ADB/USB Drivers for Android Devices | The Unlockr and it wont work.
Is the reason why it wont work because im rooted(using fresh 2.0)?
when i download ringtones they come in as .dm files. how do i get them to work. i used to just go to the Internet and get them from the download history, but i lost all that when i ruled my phone. i have astro but can not play them from my card, so i can not add them as ringtones.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have set up the Google Voice App to link to my Google voice account and I select the "ask to use google voice for each call" and the "always use google voice" options and neither work. There is no way to place calls within the app, and when I use the phone app nothing happens. I have no idea what to do. Figured out you can only do that using your contacts. Seems pretty limited, even the generic iphone app could dial direct. Oh well, maybe they will update in the future.

Please verify your username and password."I have tried using the settings that google has on the website and the school doesn't have anything about setting up an email on a phone ( any phone).I tried changing the server to imap.grcc.edu and I had to confirm the certificate but then it gave the error again. I also tried taking the @email.grcc.edu from the username and that didn't work either. I am really frustrated right now. And no, I do not want to forward it to my other email. I like to keep my school and personal emails separate. Sorry if I sound a bit mean but I know that's what some of you will ask me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just removed the DC ROM that I was using and installed the .6 Sprint Stock 2.1 ROM and rooted it With the grand help of this forum. It really does all that I want in my phone but I missed the XDA HTC_MOD Keyboard w/smileys. After some research on XDA I found that for this phone I needed the LOW RES. version of this keyboard. Here is the link for The instructions and where to download the .zip file to get the job done.

The process was very straight forward on the unzip and install but I ran into trouble getting the keyboard to actually start on my phone. When they say to "kill" the keyboard.
Here are the instructions that worked for me:
"You don't need to kill the keyboard to enable it, but there is an option at the bottom of this keyboards settings menu for "Kill Keyboard" and that's what it's referring to."
"After you have enabled it you need to select this as your active keyboard. Go to any screen you can type in (compose a new text message for example) and long press in the text input box. Select choose input method, then select the HTC_IME mod."
