when i download ringtones they come in as .dm files. how do i get them to work. i used to just go to the Internet and get them from the download history, but i lost all that when i ruled my phone. i have astro but can not play them from my card, so i can not add them as ringtones.

I can't seem to get ringtones to work in 2.1. I uninstalled Quick Settings but that didn't help. The settings don't seem to stick once you accept the ringtone you want and exit. Wtf? Any ideas?

So far i am enjoying the updated UI however, i have noticed some changes, for instance, before i could easily assign ringtones to anyone now when i try to assign tones that are saved on my sd card to specific contacts it will not allow me to do so. The phone now only lets me set a default tone which can be any tone (sd card or factory) but all contacts have this tone & i cannot assign specific tones for certain contacts.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got my wife a Hero and everything works appart for this. I have copied my MP3 files into a Music folder on the SD card. I then used ringdroid to pick one of these and convert it into a ringtone and assigned it to a contact.This created the folder /media/audio/ringtones on the SD card which contained my new ringtone. I checked the contact in the People application and the ringtone is correctly assigned to them. This ringtone is also in the dropdown list so I can manually add it to other contacts in the People application.However whenever I ring the Hero from the phone associated with this contact I always get the default ringtone and not the custom one.
I have rebooted the device and this does not make a difference.I can set the new ringtone to be the default ringtone and then it plays, but for all users.I have tried everything here, including doing a factory reset for the phone, but I just cannot get this working and this is something my wife needs.
I upgraded to Android 2.1, I have a bunch of ringtones that I made with ringdroid on 1.5.But when I go to set them as someones ringtone in ringdroid it makes me make a ringtone out of the already made one.So I just need someone to tell me where to go to set different ringtones for different people.

I can set the individual's ringtone within my people settings, I can set the default notification tone within my SMS program (still debating between ChompSMS and HandCent, suggestions?) Is it possible (as anyone knows) to set a notification for an individual within a SMS app while having it leave the default application notification alone as well as the custom ringtone within the phonebook settings I have set for individual people?
How can I turn off the default incoming ringtone, but allow personal ringtones to continue to function? I would like to specify what specific calls will cause my phone to ring.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have the HTC Hero from Sprint. I am running the stock ROM from Sprint with the update that was released in Nov. Scenario:
Person X is in my contact list
I want sound file Y to play when I get a phone call from X
I want sound file Z to play when I get a text from X
(Note: For clarification Y and Z are not the same file. The sound file Z should be different depending on the person also. In other words can I set costume text alerts per person).
When you look at the contact in 'people' there is a setting for 'ring tone' I am not sure if this is just for incoming calls or if this is also for incoming texts from this person.
How to add ringtones that I created and have on my laptop's hard drive.

To add new ringtones or SMS alerts, connect your Hero to USB and mount the device on your PC. Browser to the following folders:
Ringtones: /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
SMS Alerts: /sdcard/media/audio/notifications

However, I cannot find the media folder. Or maybe I have not even gotten to the sd card! I was able to add wallpapers and actually use them, so I did something right along the way.

I'm able to bluetooth ringtones to my uncles HD2 but for some reason i cannot blue tooth ringtones to my moms palm pixi. does anyone know how i can do so please? it is very annoying and i messed wioth all my settings and her settings and still cant figure it out!!!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.
So, I installed the N1 News and Weather App and find it to be awesome!
My question...are there any other apps from the N1 or other android phones that will work on the Hero?
My alarm clock on the HERO doesnt work now, i set the alarm but it doesnt go off. Seemingly it might be an app which is stopping it from working? is it possible=? and also how might i find out which app it is thats stopping it.

So I usually have to manually copy album Pics from the net and paste them in the info section. However my hero either doesn't show the artwork or replaces my pic with some other random artwork pic. Anyone experience this and know how to fix this?

Follow the instructions by Google, or if you are experienced, in the device manager, install a driver for ADB Interface or similar. So i go to were it directed me to when you click on google ^ USB Driver for Windows | Android Developers I download the sdk which i thought i already had on my computer (so watever) I follow all the instructions and some from TheUnlockr.com - Cell Phone How To's, Phone Reviews, and Wireless News! Is the reason why it wont work because im rooted(using fresh 2.0)?
I want to change my rom and backup my apps before I do so but EVERY app i've tried for this does not work. I've tried titanium, my apps, and astro... they all failed to back up my stuff. Any suggestions? do I even need to back them up or will they survive the flash?
