Oct 28, 2010I have a Samsung Galaxy S, international version, not SIM-locked, not rooted, running Android 2.1-update1. Today I suddenly noticed that my Contacts icon has disappeared from the bottom bar (so I'm not talking about any widgets or shortcuts which the user can manipulate, it's the one which is supposed to sit between the Phone and Messaging icons). The contact data hasn't gone anywhere, I can access contacts through the Phone app, but the missing Contacts icon still bothers me.
I have updated a bunch of apps recently - all of which I have used for a long time before without any problems, such as: Advanced Task Cleaner Pro, Smart Keyboard, Layar, Google Maps, KeePassDroid, Retro Camera and maybe something else too. Today I also erased the trial version of the dictionary app SlovoEd Deluxe and installed the paid version.
Now, should I try to erase the (free) apps one by one to see if that solves the problem, or do I have to go for a hard reset/return to factory settings straight away?

Nov 24, 2009I used to have the "1X" icon on my notifications bar. According to the manual, it meant that I was connected to the "3G" network and was transmitting data (fyi with Sprint). That icon has since disappeared?
Does that mean that i'm no longer connected to 3G speeds?

I lost the gmail app icon.
The app itself works. When I receive an email, the gmail app notifies me and in Play Store gmail appears as "installed".

Jul 23, 2010My market app has disappeared! I'm running plainjane2.1 and it was there and functioning properly the night b4. I did a nand backup last night and when I restored, it was gone. When the "Data Traffic" arrow is selected in the Mobile network settings the icon disappears from the toolbar at the top, but when it is not selected the icon appears. I cannot access the internet or download any of the Apps. Can it be sorted out.

Apr 29, 2010I had an edited png for the market icon in the vending apk but when I applied my edited png's to Ivans rom with the market fix it seems to have changed the icon back to the original market Icon. When I first loaded the rom it showed my edited png for the market icon but after my first reboot it seems to change the icon back to the original. I assume that the market is updating upon reboot so I pulled the vending apk off my phone and my edited png's are still there but its still showing the original market icon. Anybody else with an edited market icon notice this or any ideas of why its going back to original? I have tried this a couple times and it always updates after first reboot...

May 1, 2009We've rebuilt a couple of our apps with the 1.5 SDK (but targeting 1.1).
The Market seems to have a bit of trouble with the background of the icons. They appear correctly (with transparent backgrounds) on the desktop, and they appear correctly when the app is downloaded from the Market and installed on the device.
However, they appear on black (not transparent) backgrounds in the Market uploader web page, and in the Market application on the device.
It looks to me as though the Market has a problem when it extracts the icon from the .apk at upload time, with .apks built by the 1.5 SDK.
Android :: New High Resolution Icon Field In The Market Console
Nov 17, 2010I have noticed that there's a new high-res icon field in the market console. Does anyone know what that's for? I have tested this new field, and I can tell for sure that it was ignored when rendering the android market icon. Maybe that it will get used after a market upgrade... Furthermore, I have had problems with the market icon. After various tests, I have realized that it is always the mdpi icon, scaled to some random size (51px, etc..), even if there's a hdpi icon, and whatever device I used. But I see some icons which seem to be pixel-sharp. Is this just an illusion or is there a trick?

The icon for your application is not valid. Please use a 48x48 PNG.
The file was created in Fireworks, and is a 48x48 24 bit image named appicon.png.
Anyone know of any reason why I would still get this message?

Nov 25, 2010I have another doubt on how to install the apps. As my handset is missing the Android Market icon in my mobile. So I downloaded to my pc and then copied to my mobile. This "7c02815a-e245-102d-a194-6ec07c99d928.apk" file for bluetooth file transfer and using data cable. I copied that file in my video folder (for self knowing folder I pasted) now I don't see that file in my mobile video folder. So how will I install? There are no icons like "Android Market", "Installer Application", or "Application Installer" etc. I am using Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro and 1.6 firmware.

I tried googling and they said that I might need to change the region of my phone. How do I do that? Also, I can send pictures via bluetooth but I cannot receive any files nor pictures from them.
