When will hangouts be updated on Android to make calls for free. It seems very uncool that it came to iOS first. I know this has probably been posted here before about the subject.

I was wondering, I know Hangouts is the default SMS app in KitKat. However on the Nexus 5, would there be a way to disable SMS and use the messaging app (I've heard kit at got rid of the messaging app)? Without downloading a third party equivalent?
I use hangouts and messaging apps for different purposes, and would like two different apps (for privacy too, and hangouts is my social chat app).
Is there a Nexus 5/KitKat Hangouts app?
I have a nexus 5 and my girlfriend has a moto x. When she does "Ok google now, send text to Alex" and sends a text that way I get a SMS message in my hangouts inbox. But she also can send a text with hangouts and I have 2 seperate conversations going on with her at the same time and its really annoying. If Hangouts is the default, and ONLY messaging app on both of our phones, why does this happen? I thought Hangouts was the text/video/etc all in one thing. I've posted on G+ pages but couldn't get much back. Also when I send start a new hangout with somebody from my contacts, it automatically labels it an SMS message. I don't know if its because they dont have some sort of Gmail account linked up with their phone or they dont have a picture/profile set up or what. It's just so annoying to have 2 simultaneous conversations going on with the same person.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago any video taken via Hangouts would get automatically be backed up (like photos). I could view them online in my google+ autobackup area.
There recently was a change though so now those videos don't seem to be backed up automatically. (Photos still get backed up fine.) And I can't figure out how to save such videos while within Hangouts.
whether or not you get SMS texts delivered to Hangouts even when you are in airplane mode but have wifi enabled?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using hangouts for SMS since my Nexus 4 got the Kit Kat update. When I get an SMS I get the notification popup as I have with every SMS app I've used, and I and do a quick reply to the SMS from the popup, but when I press send it disappears off into... I have no idea where. It never arrives and if I look at the hangout thread it should relate to it isn't there.
I did wonder if the popup might be coming from my old SMS add (Handcent) but the icon is Hangouts and the message isn't in Handcent either.
I'm having an issue with opening hangouts and the keyboard not inputting anything into the message field. The keyboards responds to keys pressed but nothing shows up.
I have to close Hangouts from Recent Apps and reopen it to get the keyboard to work. Happens quite often but not everytime.Problem is on a Nexus 5 with 4.4.2. This is my second Nexus 5.
When using Google Hangouts to text on my Nexus 5, every time I enter a web url the string is spell checked and becomes un-clickable. Example:If I type: "whatismyandrioidversion.com" into a txt/sms chat using hangouts, the string is spell checked and auto corrected to "what is my android version.com".
So, then I have to go through a very annoying process of deleting the spaces between each word and fixing the url before I send the message.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Samba server at home, running from my router's USB port. I access files on this drive from my Nexus 4, my Nexus 10, my Windows computer and my iPad. Up until very recently, this was all working swimmingly, with no problems.
However, since the most recent Android update, i have been unable to access the Samba server from either of my two Android devices. The Android devices can see other devices on the network (via ES File Explorer), but no longer the USB device attached to the router, via the Samba server.
This isn't a problem with ES File Explorer as the exact same issue is found when using other remote file viewers. And this isn't a problem with the router, as I called the manufacturer, who also acts as my ISP, to check the settings remotely, and they said that they're optimised (as you would expect, as the other devices are still working fine).
I tried to access the server using AndSMB, failing again, but getting this error message:

a friend of mine has updated his Phone and now his Whatsapp does'nt work, he uninstalled Whatsapp and did a battery pull on the Phone, and then he installed it back on the Phone and it is still not working, i remembber he has the latest software of Whatsapp

The app itself works. When I receive an email, the gmail app notifies me and in Play Store gmail appears as "installed".

View 5 Replies View RelatedI updated this morning, my google account I had linked to my S4 has been removed. I have tried syncing the account with the phone again, but when I do this I keep getting an error message saying "there was a problem connecting to google servers, please try again later".
I've already read that it could be a problem with 2-step verification/authorisation so logged into my account on a laptop to disable this, but it is already disabled.
Since I got Kitkat on my S4, UK, on Orange/EE, the weather widget has been behaving strangely. It's set to my location correctly but every so often when I turn on the phone, or just unlock it, the temperature has shot up to 35 to 50 degrees Celsius. The real temperatures the last few days have been between 0 and 8 Celsius. It might randomly be displaying Fahrenheit I suppose, but the settings are set to Celsius, and refreshing the widget puts it back to the right temperature, in C. It's not every time but it is regular.

I unrooted it using SuperSU but when I went to install the latest KitKat update (4.4.2) it flashed the yellow triangle and said I had unauthorized software and I needed to contact the Verizon store. I did the down volume-home-power thing and took care of that but it is clear to me that even though SuperSU says my phone is unrooted it isn't. How do I really unroot my phone?

All seemed okay so let it get on with it.But when I thought it was ready I cannot get further than the four moving coloured circles. I have tried to factory reset and delete cache but has made no changes. I have been in contact with google play who now say there is no more actions that can be done so will need replacement.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 that just got the 4.4 update this morning. Afterwards it had to redownload/update nearly every app on the device as well as all my SNES and Playsation ROMs which I though was odd.
Now all the notifications for thos downloads will not go away. I've cleared them all at once, I've cleared them all individually. When I turn the screen off and then turn it back on an dunlock the phone all those notifications are back in the notification bar.
Rooted gs4 i545 Verizon. Update via OTA came across yesterday couldn't install 4.4.2 update. Did a full factory reset to see if it might work...but to no avail. I have kies, mobogenie, (which is where it was rooted from via a one click root) don't mind losing root to go to 4.4.2..

It has only happened since this update and it's getting very irritating having these display permanently and come back seconds after I clear each time.
I got the kit kat software update on my t mobile Note 3 yesterday. now today trying to save to my sd card isnt working. I can still access things on it fine but anything new I try to save gives me an error and some have said not enough space even though I have 30gb free on a 64gb card. SM-N900T

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated my GS4 to android 4.4 Kitkat through Samsung Kies. It seemed to be running smoothly initially but soon it began to crash randomly. When I tried to turn it on again it would crash again. At this point it was on about 40% charge so I plugged it in and it turned on with no problems. I had no such issues using android 4.3. It now dies at around 40-50% charge and won't turn on every time until I plug it in. It had crossed my mind that it could be an issue with my device battery but seeing as I have never had any battery troubles before the update, I think that the new firmware is likely the cause of my woes.
