View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted galaxy S2 on stock with the SuperSU application. I updated the SuperSU application today and when I opened it, it advised me to update the binary. I selected the option to update the binary via CWM (as that's my recovery tool). My phone then tried to reboot but is now stuck on the splash screen, I have access to ODIN mode which currently says CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: Yes (1 counts) but no access to CWM.
I have a feeling I would need to flash the kernel but am not really sure what the best way to fix this is. If possible I would like to keep all my data intact.
I bought an android 2.3.6 phone which no one has tried to root( it seems). So I was wondering if I could root it by creating an update.zip file containing the su binary and the superuser apk and then installing it in the recovery mode. Will this work? I have failed with gingerbreak, unlockroot and z4root.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated my GS4 to android 4.4 Kitkat through Samsung Kies. It seemed to be running smoothly initially but soon it began to crash randomly. When I tried to turn it on again it would crash again. At this point it was on about 40% charge so I plugged it in and it turned on with no problems. I had no such issues using android 4.3. It now dies at around 40-50% charge and won't turn on every time until I plug it in. It had crossed my mind that it could be an issue with my device battery but seeing as I have never had any battery troubles before the update, I think that the new firmware is likely the cause of my woes.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get a friends Nexus 7 up and running. I recently rooted it and installed the custom recovery using my Mac with this guide while the tablet was on 4.3. All was well, but then my friend was given the option to install the 4.4 Kitkat update. After the update, the tablet has been unable to boot - it simply hangs at the startup animation. I am able to enter the recovery boot loader, and enter options to restore from a .zip, however I have no way of accessing the tablet's memory from my computer to put the original operating system back on it- although I think it could be done from Terminal, I am not well versed in command prompts.

I've heard that Samsung has a custom binary download counter, so my question is; does SONY have that too?
The reason is that i flashed many custom roms on my phone and now I have some dead pixels on my camera and i can't send it back to Sony cause I already destroyed my warranty and I heard if I reset a custom binary download counter i will be able to restore my warranty?
When will hangouts be updated on Android to make calls for free. It seems very uncool that it came to iOS first. I know this has probably been posted here before about the subject.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Samba server at home, running from my router's USB port. I access files on this drive from my Nexus 4, my Nexus 10, my Windows computer and my iPad. Up until very recently, this was all working swimmingly, with no problems.
However, since the most recent Android update, i have been unable to access the Samba server from either of my two Android devices. The Android devices can see other devices on the network (via ES File Explorer), but no longer the USB device attached to the router, via the Samba server.
This isn't a problem with ES File Explorer as the exact same issue is found when using other remote file viewers. And this isn't a problem with the router, as I called the manufacturer, who also acts as my ISP, to check the settings remotely, and they said that they're optimised (as you would expect, as the other devices are still working fine).
I tried to access the server using AndSMB, failing again, but getting this error message:
smb://yourserver:445/ java.net.UnknownHostException: yourserver
PWD

Lots of people recommend doing factory reset of their phones AFTER updates and some others talk about factory reset BEFORE receiving an update and some others recommend both!.What exactly I should do before I jump from stock JellyBean to flashing stock Android 4.2.2 (once the KDZ file is available) in order to get 100% free troubles on the short and long run. I'm on LG G2 16 GB.

View 3 Replies View RelatedImagine a scenario where you have just system access on android , and you want to continually have it, so you use the su binary, with the correct permission and the setuid flag on, and the owner being system, you do:
Code:
chown 1000:1000 su2
chown 06755 su2
you have the ability to change the owner to system as you do when rooting, and you also set the appropriate permission as you do when rooting,
06775 being the permission code to all have execution permission, and the setuid flag on.
But when dealing with system permission that doesn't work. it only works with root.
Several apps on android market is utilizing some kind of binary and root to call android system methods which normally require permissions only granted to system apps (/system/app).
I am wondering if it is possible to call java methods with C++ binaries using JNI. How the apps are doing this? An example is the launcher Apex launcher, which uses root to allow users to add widgets with the new widgets screen on ICS.
I tried to root iris 502 using the binary script but was not successful. Nor did it got rooted through unlock root.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using the official D2EXT MIUI-Rom (latest Version) on my HTC Desire, had no problems with it so far.
I've updated my SU binary with the preinstalled SU-App yesterday, wasn't thinking about any bad consequences.
I rebooted the phone and wanted to view some pictures from my SD Card: no access anymore.
Windows says, the type of my data partition is RAW. Ubuntu just says, I dont have any rights to get access on that card.
The card is definitely NOT broken! I'm restoring all files right now from my card with Recuva (Windows). But for example, pictures seem to be broken and can't be displayed.
What should I do now? Might a SU binary downgrade work? Is there any way to downgrade without a working SD card?
