I'm having an issue with opening hangouts and the keyboard not inputting anything into the message field. The keyboards responds to keys pressed but nothing shows up.
I have to close Hangouts from Recent Apps and reopen it to get the keyboard to work. Happens quite often but not everytime.Problem is on a Nexus 5 with 4.4.2. This is my second Nexus 5.

I just got the Eris today and I was wondering if there was a way to calibrate the screen. I don't know if it's normal, but when I use the Home/Menu/Back sensors, I have to touch the very top of the icon in order for it to work. Also, are you supposed to be able to get the landscape view/keyboard when inputting contacts?
I hope I don't have to exchange it.
I was wondering, I know Hangouts is the default SMS app in KitKat. However on the Nexus 5, would there be a way to disable SMS and use the messaging app (I've heard kit at got rid of the messaging app)? Without downloading a third party equivalent?
I use hangouts and messaging apps for different purposes, and would like two different apps (for privacy too, and hangouts is my social chat app).
Is there a Nexus 5/KitKat Hangouts app?
When will hangouts be updated on Android to make calls for free. It seems very uncool that it came to iOS first. I know this has probably been posted here before about the subject.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a nexus 5 and my girlfriend has a moto x. When she does "Ok google now, send text to Alex" and sends a text that way I get a SMS message in my hangouts inbox. But she also can send a text with hangouts and I have 2 seperate conversations going on with her at the same time and its really annoying. If Hangouts is the default, and ONLY messaging app on both of our phones, why does this happen? I thought Hangouts was the text/video/etc all in one thing. I've posted on G+ pages but couldn't get much back. Also when I send start a new hangout with somebody from my contacts, it automatically labels it an SMS message. I don't know if its because they dont have some sort of Gmail account linked up with their phone or they dont have a picture/profile set up or what. It's just so annoying to have 2 simultaneous conversations going on with the same person.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few weeks ago any video taken via Hangouts would get automatically be backed up (like photos). I could view them online in my google+ autobackup area.
There recently was a change though so now those videos don't seem to be backed up automatically. (Photos still get backed up fine.) And I can't figure out how to save such videos while within Hangouts.
whether or not you get SMS texts delivered to Hangouts even when you are in airplane mode but have wifi enabled?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using hangouts for SMS since my Nexus 4 got the Kit Kat update. When I get an SMS I get the notification popup as I have with every SMS app I've used, and I and do a quick reply to the SMS from the popup, but when I press send it disappears off into... I have no idea where. It never arrives and if I look at the hangout thread it should relate to it isn't there.
I did wonder if the popup might be coming from my old SMS add (Handcent) but the icon is Hangouts and the message isn't in Handcent either.
When using Google Hangouts to text on my Nexus 5, every time I enter a web url the string is spell checked and becomes un-clickable. Example:If I type: "whatismyandrioidversion.com" into a txt/sms chat using hangouts, the string is spell checked and auto corrected to "what is my android version.com".
So, then I have to go through a very annoying process of deleting the spaces between each word and fixing the url before I send the message.
Is there anyway on kitkat 4.4.2 to root the phone without opening the bootloader or setting my device on USM (USB Mass STorage)?
I need to do some recovery on my device but I can't because I'm not root.

<activity android:windowSoftInputMode="stateAlwaysVisible|stateVisible|adjustResize" but it didn't work.
Also tried with
getWindow().setSoftInputMode(WindowManager.LayoutParams.SOFT_INPUT_STATE_ALWAYS_VISIBLE);
but it didn't work as well i'm using emulator to run the code

It seems to happen more when I "flip" it open instead of gently sliding it but its also done it when sliding gently. Im trying to figure out if its hardware or some software. The only software I could think would do it would be pandahome but I dont wanna uninstall it and lose my setup.

View 49 Replies View RelatedI'm running Droid Eris on leaked 2.1v3 Over the last month or so I've noticed than when I open a text message while holding the phone in landscape the app crashes and has to be forced to close. Also sometimes I notices that the keyboard is a little laggy and the text doesn't show up on the screen until I minimize the keyboard.Has anyone else had these problems or know of a fix?Also on a side note how to I save pictures sent to me in mms to my media card?
I have a simple EditText field in one of my Activities. If I set the field to disabled, it greys out and I cannot enter text with the hardware keyboard, however when I touch the field the virtual keyboard appears and that still lets me enter text. Is this a bug? Any workarounds for making sure this can't happen?

Anyway, the onscreen keyboard doesn't activate when a type/search field has been tapped on the screen.
The OS is Android 4.1.1
He's other tablet which is the same works, but the screen is cracked so he bought another one of these hideous unresponsive pieces of crap.
In an Android app, whenever the activity launches, the textbox gets the focus and the soft keyboard pops up automatically. I have tried to stop this by using following line in onCreate method, but it does not work.

I have my android:screenOrientation="portait" on but when a physical keyboard is opened it doesn't rotate the screen as I wanted, but it restarts the app. It seems to run onCreate over again or something. Can someone point me in the right direction and/or tell me how to intercept this and handle it?

Only problem is that many folks at work use group distribution lists to send out e-mails. Many of these lists have hundreds of recipients. I daily send my wife a text with just a subject line from my outlook. Ever since Kitkat, the subject line is not being seen. I can add my number to the send, and I get the subject line..how we can receive the subject line from an email? (My wife does not get wifi at work, so using email is not an option.
