Nov 1, 2013I was wondering, I know Hangouts is the default SMS app in KitKat. However on the Nexus 5, would there be a way to disable SMS and use the messaging app (I've heard kit at got rid of the messaging app)? Without downloading a third party equivalent?
I use hangouts and messaging apps for different purposes, and would like two different apps (for privacy too, and hangouts is my social chat app).
Is there a Nexus 5/KitKat Hangouts app?

Mar 22, 2014I have a nexus 5 and my girlfriend has a moto x. When she does "Ok google now, send text to Alex" and sends a text that way I get a SMS message in my hangouts inbox. But she also can send a text with hangouts and I have 2 seperate conversations going on with her at the same time and its really annoying. If Hangouts is the default, and ONLY messaging app on both of our phones, why does this happen? I thought Hangouts was the text/video/etc all in one thing. I've posted on G+ pages but couldn't get much back. Also when I send start a new hangout with somebody from my contacts, it automatically labels it an SMS message. I don't know if its because they dont have some sort of Gmail account linked up with their phone or they dont have a picture/profile set up or what. It's just so annoying to have 2 simultaneous conversations going on with the same person.

Dec 26, 2013A few weeks ago any video taken via Hangouts would get automatically be backed up (like photos). I could view them online in my google+ autobackup area.
There recently was a change though so now those videos don't seem to be backed up automatically. (Photos still get backed up fine.) And I can't figure out how to save such videos while within Hangouts.

KitKat 4.4 :: Nexus 4 - Hangouts Quick Reply Not Sending?
Dec 9, 2013I've been using hangouts for SMS since my Nexus 4 got the Kit Kat update. When I get an SMS I get the notification popup as I have with every SMS app I've used, and I and do a quick reply to the SMS from the popup, but when I press send it disappears off into... I have no idea where. It never arrives and if I look at the hangout thread it should relate to it isn't there.
I did wonder if the popup might be coming from my old SMS add (Handcent) but the icon is Hangouts and the message isn't in Handcent either.

Mar 17, 2014I'm having an issue with opening hangouts and the keyboard not inputting anything into the message field. The keyboards responds to keys pressed but nothing shows up.
I have to close Hangouts from Recent Apps and reopen it to get the keyboard to work. Happens quite often but not everytime.Problem is on a Nexus 5 with 4.4.2. This is my second Nexus 5.

Jan 19, 2014When using Google Hangouts to text on my Nexus 5, every time I enter a web url the string is spell checked and becomes un-clickable. Example:If I type: "whatismyandrioidversion.com" into a txt/sms chat using hangouts, the string is spell checked and auto corrected to "what is my android version.com".
So, then I have to go through a very annoying process of deleting the spaces between each word and fixing the url before I send the message.

Feb 3, 2010I'm doing a research on Cellular-WiFi switch and finding any mechanism to handle cellular hand off.As far as i've found,an http request is routed through WiFi network if connected even gprs/cellular connection is present.
My queries are:
1)Does this switch happens automatically ? If yes,which part of framework or code does that?
2)Does the http request drop in such situation due to cellular hand off ? Is there any way to handle such hand off ?
3)Does gprs cellular connection reconnects automatically when WiFi gets disconnected ?
4)Which type of alerts or notifications normally user gets in such situations ?
Yours feedback and inputs will be of great help for me in this activity.

Feb 12, 2014Radio Shack had this phone on sale for $14 cash this weekend, I picked up a couple of them to setup to use for WiFi text/music/YouTube phones for my kids.
I have rooted them and now just want to get rid of the Virgin Mobile automatic profile update that attempts to happen when I power on the phone. If possible, I would like to permanently disable the cellular data/voice modem as well leaving WiFi enabled. What app I should disable/ remove through titanium backup to do this?
I have absolutely no intention of ever activating these phones for traditional cell service. They will strictly be used as WiFi android devices. Basically a cheapo alternative to an iPod.
I have set the phone for airplane mode and then enabled WiFi to prevent them from making calls, this is a reasonable solution but they could turn on the cell radio and start trying to activate, although they wouldn't get far as they don't have a way to provide payment anyway.
Problem is their mother isn't the brightest and when they are away at mom's, I would like to be able to text them and not be on the phone with her troubleshooting them constantly.

Aug 23, 2009had the hero on its UK release date, only just starting to realise that I dont actually receive all my texts off people.Ive had texts of people saying 'did you get my text last night' or 'why havnt you replied' so I still receive texts off these people but seem to miss a few occasioanlly.Rang Orange who dont seem to have it listed as a widespread fault, theres no firmware update available for this model yet either.Orange are sending me a replacement handset so I will see if that helps but Im starting to wonder if other people are getting this, its not obvious straight away that its happening, Im only now starting to get people saying that I dont seem to be getting their texts sometimes, when I try to recreate the issue I cant.All the people seem to be on O2 that I randomly dont receive texts from

May 20, 2012There's actually a phone made by Fujitsu that's similar in that it can be booted into the full desktop windows 7 32 bit by the switch of a button. The downside I see to it is that when you are running it the phones radio is turned off so you can't receive calls or texts also the phone UI is some proprietary Fujitsu software. Aug 21, 2010I?ve had my HTC desire for about 3 weeks until now not had any problems, but now i can?t seem to make or receive calls or text. When I try to ring someone it just beeps and ends the call. When someone rings me it says unavailable. Nor can i send or receive texts. I?ve spoken to my network operator and everything is fine on their end and also got a new sim card from them just in case it was a sim card fault. Anyone know what the problem could be?

May 11, 2010I rooted my phone successfully last night and installed MoDaCo.
Everything worked OK. Today I tried Cyanogen and it seemed to work OK. I've tried to install a couple of themes. One worked and one didn't.
I don't know when, but my phone will now not send or receive texts or calls. I still have a 3G data connection (back to MoDaCo) and the internet and Market work fine.
I really don't know what to do. The recovery image "recovery-ra-nexus..." seems to have disappeared from the bootloader. The phone isn't bricked so I guess that there is a way out of this?
SO I've restored my first Nand Backup which is the recovery image ra-nexus-v1.7.0.
It quoted restore complete. I backed up and rebooted. Weird thing is it boots up into Cyanogen ROM!!! And now I have no service, NOTHING!

Most of my friends have iPhones and when they send a group text message it shows up as a blank message for me. I downloaded Go SMS Pro and it still doesn't work in there. I don't want any app that would give me a new number. BTW, I receive group texts from those of my friends that have Windows phones just fine.

Samsung Captivate :: Can't Make - Receive Calls Or Texts
Oct 27, 2010Just got my refurbished Captivate in the mail today, charged and activated it as per the instructions. It worked just fine for about 30 minutes or so. I put on a few apps and showed them off to my roommate, and things were going fine. Then all of a sudden I couldn't send or receive phone calls, nor was I able to get/send text messages. With no pattern or logic I would go from 3g to edge to neither of the two symbols (just full signal strength) to the international no sign where my full bars just were. If I typed and tried to send a text while the no sign was visible it would send and receive texts as soon as I got signal back, but that would only last a few minutes.
I've tried hard and soft resets and restoring the phone to factory settings, all to no avail, as well as checking my message center number. I've looked around in the forums and can't seem to find anyone who has had this problem, and I was hoping someone would have some advice or could point me to a thread that I may have missed. I'd talk to AT&T but chat hours are over and I have to be up early for work tomorrow and need my phone for that, so I'm not sure I can ask customer service tomorrow beforehand.
