HTC Hero :: Music Player - Masking Directories And Sorting Track Order
Aug 7, 2009I'm trying to use the in-built Media app but am finding it rather poor for two main reasons.
One is that it scans my entire SD card for music to play, which I really don't want it to do as it finds my podcasts downloaded by acast and the tags in those MP3 files are all over the place so make a mess of the Music Player lists. I've tried adding a .nomedia file to the podcast directory as suggested on another site but HTC's app doesn't pay any attention to that.
The second issue is that despite my files having MP3 track number tags, the Music Player app usually ignores those and sorts the tracks into alphabetical order which just doesn't work for a lot of my albums. It's not consistent with sorting, e.g. if I pick an album off the Albums list the tracks are in order and play in order in the track list for that album so I can hit the first track and it plays in order, but if I go back up to the albums screen and add the whole album to a playlist, sometimes it puts the tracks in order, other times it re-orders them in alphabetical order of track name. If I go to a particular artist or composer and select an album, it normally sorts the tracks by alphabetical order this time instead of tagged track order.. This is all with the same album too so it's not that some albums have track number ID3 tags and others don't.
I copy the MP3s across the USB link, I'm not using HTC Sync as it won't run on my desktop computer (a linux box), so I don't know if HTC Sync can help out here or not.
Nexus :: Exchange Contacts Sorting
Mar 19, 2010I have the At&t N1 and set it up with my Exchange server. The biggest issue I've run into is that the phone seems to ignore my File As setting for the contacts. Some of them are sorted as "first last" and others are "last, first", even though in Outlook they're all the same. I've removed the account and set it back up again with the same result. Actually, after removing the account, the contacts didn't clear either, neither did the calendar.
I got the trial version of Touchdown, which eventually cleared the phone's contact list, but I could never get it to sync its contact database with the phone's. According to their FAQ there should be an option for it, but that never shows up for me. It doesn't really matter to me if I have to use Touchdown to accomplish this or not, but if I do, then I want it to sync to my phone's database because I like the Favorites tab
Sprint HTC Hero :: Exchange Sync - Folder Layout Issues
Sep 17, 2009This has been one of only a couple of bugbears I'm experiencing with my Hero. While Exchange syncs perfectly for mail, contacts and calendars, it fails to display Outlook folders in the proper way. Does anyone else experience this?
I have something like 20 folders, most of which have subfolders, and then some of those have more subfolders. In Outlook, it's perfect (naturally). On the Hero, it seems to display them almost randomly - certainly not in the hierarchy they should be, or even alphabetically. With 100+ folders (some with the same name), this is a pain when on the move and relying on the phone to give me access to stuff.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
I've tried the 5 day trial of one of the Exchange apps (can't remember the name) but found it clunky and removed double-quick. Don't like RoadSync either. Plus, I don't see why I should pay for an app when the default one should do the job properly.
Also, on the subject of Exchange, is there any way to get tasks to sync? I'm having to use Gmail to "copy" tasks from Outlook (PITA), and don't really want to add a third party app to manage just those.
I guess it's a case of waiting a few months for some kind of update ... or is that me being a little too optimistic?
Motorola Droid :: Corporate (Exchange) Email Sorting?
Dec 29, 2009Gradually getting used to using my Droid for Corporate Email & Calendar purposes no way I would ever take this thing back, but looking for solutions to the following:
I do not see a way to sort my inbox by "From" to group those emails together. I got spoiled on my BB Storm being able to touch and hold the sender and it would sort all emails. Is there a way to do this on the Droid?
Also, when I go into my "Sent" folder, all emails are shown by the person that the emails are from, which is ME, impossible to see who I sent the email to and have to look at the subject and open the email to have any idea about the content. There's got to be a way to change this to view by who the email was sent to, which is usually what you're looking for anyway.
HTC Desire :: Better Cut And Folder Organiser In Order To Change Icons
Jun 30, 2010I have tried using Better Cut and Folder Organiser in order to change the icons on my HTC Desire. However, when I try and do this for Messaging, Email or People application, it always reverts back to the standard HTC icon.
How have other people got round this? Or is this just a problem I am experiencing? I am un-rooted.
Android :: Assets-Folder - Takes Always The First File By Alphabetical Order
Oct 17, 2010I'm new in Java/Android programming, so please have patience with me.
I try to play a mp3 which is locate und the assets folder. I know there is another way with the /res/raw/ folder, but use the assets-folder because later I'll try to access the file by String.
This code works to play a mp3-file:

Now the problem: In the same assets-folder is another mp3 file stored. Though I specify the name of the mp3 to use it take the one which comes first in alphabet. E.g. the other file is named "music.mp3" it plays this one. Renaming it to "worldmusic.mp3" it will play "song.mp3". Rerename "worldmusic.mp3" back to "music.mp3" it will take this mp3 again. Another test: Renaming "song.mp3" to something other so the application can find whats specify by the code above will result that no song is played. So this means the songname have to exist, although it take arbitrary the song first in alphabet.
I'm testing with the AVD emulator of eclipse. But I think the behaviour would be the same on a real device.
HTC Hero : Way For Sorting Sms Ringtone?
Jul 16, 2010I was able to set my own message tone (a downloaded one) on my hero 1.5 but now Ive upgraded to 2.1 i can only seem to select them from a list.
can anyone remind me how i go about sorting this?
Android :: Touchdown / Want To File In An Exchange Folder
Mar 19, 2010I've been using Touchdown trial for a few days now and can't seem to find an answer to my question in the other threads. When I have an e-mail that I want to file in an exchange folder all of my folders show up on the phone and I am able to send the e-mail to any folder in my inbox on the server.My question: Is there a way to check my folders from the Droid after I have filed e-mails there? I went into settings and assumed that if the inbox was syncing that I would be able to pull up the other folders. I added a couple of the folders to sync under advanced settings and they show up but when I try to open them up there aren't any e-mails.

I want my wife at the top of the list & would like to be able to re-sort the list as I find who I communicate with most often, but it seems to just display them in the order that you make them favourites. Most recent at the top.
I don't want to have to clear my favourites and then start again every time I wan't to change it.

Oct 17, 2009I had no problem setting up my Exchange sync, however I have multiple calendars on my Exchange account (1 account, multiple calendars), but the phone only syncs with one of those calendars. Is there a way to have it sync with ALL the calendars on my exchange account? (And I did go to the calendars selection settings but it only shows one of my exchange calendars.

Dec 2, 2009I've got my email and calendar syncing with my Exchange server every couple of hours, but if I make a change to an appointment from my PC and want to sync my Hero calendar immediately, how do I force an immediate update? I can refresh my email, but I can't see a calendar refresh option? I worked it out. Just go to home screen, menu, Settings, Data synchronization, Exchange ActiveSync and there's a Sync now button at the bottom of the screen that syncs mail, contacts and calendar when you click it. Perfect. Would be nice if it was a little easier to get to though!

Sep 27, 2009I have a new HTC Hero.I am currebtly syncing with Exchange using the Exchange sync app that come with the Hero.I used to us RoadSync from DataViz on my Nokia which was great.There are a couple of features that I miss.
a) I can't set different sync schedules for different times of day lie I can in RoadSync.
b) I can't seem to access the Exchange Global Address List like I could in RoadSync.
So.
1) Does any one have experience of using the Beta of RoadSync on Android. Is it any good ? Does it have the features above ?
2) Can anyone recommend any other Exchange sync apps ?
Also, is there any way to force exchange sync, roadsync or any app for that matter to use a particular connection, i.e. 3G or wifi only ?
HTC Hero : Exchange Contact Sync
Jan 18, 2010I am today using the Hero to sync Mail and Calender via Exchange using HTC own software. However, i am hesitating regarding contacts. All i want is to receive the adresses in our Company Directory into my phone. But will my phone try to upload my (private) contacts into exchange? I have not found any rules to be set about this. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Jan 7, 2010I've set up google calendars to have my personal stuff instead of using corporate exchange. But I do rely on exchange to store and share events concerning my job.
Calendar shows each end every event (gcal-s AND xChange) BUT I am not able to create an exchange event, only gcal and My Calendar and Outlook. Is there a workaround to get over this annoying "feature" and choose xChange also for newly created events?
