Android :: Touchdown / Want To File In An Exchange Folder

Mar 19, 2010

I've been using Touchdown trial for a few days now and can't seem to find an answer to my question in the other threads. When I have an e-mail that I want to file in an exchange folder all of my folders show up on the phone and I am able to send the e-mail to any folder in my inbox on the server. My question: Is there a way to check my folders from the Droid after I have filed e-mails there? I went into settings and assumed that if the inbox was syncing that I would be able to pull up the other folders. I added a couple of the folders to sync under advanced settings and they show up but when I try to open them up there aren't any e-mails.

Android :: Touchdown & Native Exchange Sync?

Mar 18, 2010

Say you are in your office, sitting at your computer. So you don't need your phone to notify you every time you get an Exchange email, or every time you have an Exchange calendar event, because its all popping up right on your computer screen anyways. But you do still want to receive notifications for your non-Exchange email accounts and calendar events (e.g., Gmail).

Can Touchdown be closed or "turned off" (or maybe just killed using a task killer) while you are at work, so you do not receive notifications about Exchange emails and calendars, but you do still receive notifications for all your other accounts? And then as soon as you leave the office you can just re-load Touchdown so that you start getting phone notifications again for your Exchange account?

Is there an easy way to accomplish this without using Touchdown if you are using just the native Exchange ActiveSync built into Android (sense UI)?

I hate getting notifications on my phone 2 seconds after I've received them in the Outlook on my work computer, so this is why I ask these questions. With BlackBerry (what I currently have, but I want to switch to HTC Incredible) it is easy to manage notifications this way, but I'm curious if I can do it on Android.

HTC 4G :: Touchdown For Exchange On Evo?

Jun 4, 2010

#1 - I cannot believe how amazingly sucky the stock email program is for the EVO - or for Android. Good christ, what toolbox decided to have a base email program where you cannot even set up filters.... This leads to spending $20 to get an app that any Blackberry does in it's sleep....
#2 - I see that for Exchange by Touchdown - there is a message "Don't install on Incredible, use Exchange for Android"As the Evo is pretty similar to the Incredible - should I just use "Exchange for Android" and not TD?

Android :: Touchdown For Exchange Problem After Droid 2.0.1 Update

Dec 9, 2009

Before the update yesterday, I was able to search my contacts by using the search button on the Droid, and then could dial the contact. After the 2.0.1 update, and after updating Touchdown for Exchange to the newest release, same problem.

I tried copying the contacts to the phone book, and the process seems to have taken place, but I have no idea where those contacts are....can't find them in the phone book.

HTC Aria :: Touchdown For Exchange Mail

I am waiting for my Aria to be delivered. Has anybody used the native exchange mail on 2.1? How does it perform? I heard a lot of good things about Touchdown for exchange. Can I get that with the 3rd party restrictions that ATT has on the android market? If so I remember reading about a work around but can't remember what it was.

HTC Incredible :: Exchange Activesync And Touchdown

Apr 30, 2010

I just received my Incredible yesterday to replace my Blackberry Storm. I cannot complete the Exchange Activesync setup because it says it cannot contact the Exchange server. I've tried numerous times: placing https:// in-front of the server name, putting <<domain>><<username>> in the username field while keeping the domain field blank, checking and unchecking the SSL box. Nothing is working.

So I downloaded Touchdown. I entered the same exact settings that I believe should have worked for the Mail app and Touchdown connects just fine. It gives you the option to connect via Activesync only, Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2003. I selected Activesync and I'm seeing all my emails, contacts and appointments.

Is there something on the server side that could be preventing me from setting up the HTC Mail app. This is a major deal breaker for me. I guess, I could use Touchdown but I'd prefer not to.

HTC Droid Eris :: Exchange Activesync And Touchdown

Dec 8, 2009

For those who have tried to sync up to their work exchange server that requires a downloaded pin from the respective server has probably noticed that this is unable to accomplish using the native Eris app. I was told to download Touchdown, but I have a problem paying for something Eris should have done in the first place. Any other free apps out there or is the Eris update supposed to fix this.

HTC Desire :: Exchange Subfolders - Alternatives To Touchdown?

Apr 10, 2010

I need my Exchange subfolders to synchronise automatically, and I need to receive notifications when a new mail arrives in any of the subfolders.

So far, the only app I've found that manages this properly is Touchdown. I'm in the trial period, and may end up buying it, but I'm hoping that there's another application out there that works as well, but has better design and UI. Does anyone know of one?

I used RoadSync on my Nokia, and was looking for the Android version on the market (it does exist, apparently), but can't find it. It might have been taken off, or perhaps doesn't work with v2.1.

Motorola Droid X :: Touchdown Vs Stock 2.1 Exchange Sync - Bug In 2.1?

Jul 22, 2010

I have never been able to sync past calendar events using the stock 2.1 Exchange (Outlook) sync. I only get past events for the last month. Yes, I have "sync all events" turned on. Any calendar event older than 30 days will not display or sync.

I spent 1.5 hours with Motorolla tech support today (live chat) trying to solve this to no avail. The tech said the problem is on my company's Exchange server. I said the bug is in Android 2.1. Example: my iPod touch syncs everything with the Exchange server including past events.

Just now I installed Touchdown on my Droid X. Everything sync'ed - all events, past, present and future. They display nicely in the Touchdown calendar display.

These past events still will not display in any of the stock calendars.

HTC Incredible :: Exchange Password Requirement / Touchdown Message Display

Apr 29, 2010

Two quick questions that will help me decide between Native Exchange and Touchdown (or possibly another app all together):

1) Is there a way to override the password requirement for Native Exchange? I'd prefer to not have to enter a p/w every time my phone locks.

2)Is anyone else having issues with Touchdown not rendering their messages properly? Mine are cut off even with the smallest font setting and I cannot side scroll to see the rest of the message. Also as I scroll down into the threaded messages the screen above goes white.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Exchange Sync - Folder Layout Issues

Sep 17, 2009

This has been one of only a couple of bugbears I'm experiencing with my Hero. While Exchange syncs perfectly for mail, contacts and calendars, it fails to display Outlook folders in the proper way. Does anyone else experience this?

I have something like 20 folders, most of which have subfolders, and then some of those have more subfolders. In Outlook, it's perfect (naturally). On the Hero, it seems to display them almost randomly - certainly not in the hierarchy they should be, or even alphabetically. With 100+ folders (some with the same name), this is a pain when on the move and relying on the phone to give me access to stuff.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

I've tried the 5 day trial of one of the Exchange apps (can't remember the name) but found it clunky and removed double-quick. Don't like RoadSync either. Plus, I don't see why I should pay for an app when the default one should do the job properly.

Also, on the subject of Exchange, is there any way to get tasks to sync? I'm having to use Gmail to "copy" tasks from Outlook (PITA), and don't really want to add a third party app to manage just those.

I guess it's a case of waiting a few months for some kind of update ... or is that me being a little too optimistic?

Android :: Determining Filetype Of File In Assets Folder

Jun 9, 2010

Question: How do you programmatically distinguish between directories and regular files in the assets folder?

When using AssetManager to access files in the assets folder, it seems impossible to determine if a file is in fact a file or a directory. You get the list of files from the list method and then open the file using the open method. I thought perhaps using the openFd method to get the asset file descriptor (and then subsequently requesting the normal file descriptor) would provide me some information. But requesting the file descriptor for a directory results in an IOException (which makes sense since what would it mean for a directory to have a file descriptor...?).

Currently I'm relying on that IOException (resulting from attemptng to open a directory in the assets folder) in order to determine if a file is in fact a directory. (Opening a regular file works just fine). This seems like a bad idea. Any other suggestions to distinguish between a file and a directory?

Android :: Check For File Existence In Assets Folder

Aug 28, 2010

My app has .txt files in subdirectories in the assets folder. It reads those .txt files and puts them in a textview. It's working great and no problems.

Should I be concerned about the files in the assets folder getting deleted by the user or missing. If this ever could happen, my app would get an error because the file would not be there when it tried to read it into the stream.

Is there a need for me to check the existence of an asset file before I read it or does the asset manager take care of it all? I also was wondering if there's a chance that a user would or could delete and asset file.

Like I say, everything works fine without me inserting code to check for file existence. I just wondered if people use the .exists() statement every time they go to read in a stream from assets.

Android :: Assets-Folder - Takes Always The First File By Alphabetical Order

Oct 17, 2010

I'm new in Java/Android programming, so please have patience with me.

I try to play a mp3 which is locate und the assets folder. I know there is another way with the /res/raw/ folder, but use the assets-folder because later I'll try to access the file by String.

This code works to play a mp3-file:

CODE:...............

Now the problem: In the same assets-folder is another mp3 file stored. Though I specify the name of the mp3 to use it take the one which comes first in alphabet. E.g. the other file is named "music.mp3" it plays this one. Renaming it to "worldmusic.mp3" it will play "song.mp3". Rerename "worldmusic.mp3" back to "music.mp3" it will take this mp3 again. Another test: Renaming "song.mp3" to something other so the application can find whats specify by the code above will result that no song is played. So this means the songname have to exist, although it take arbitrary the song first in alphabet.

I'm testing with the AVD emulator of eclipse. But I think the behaviour would be the same on a real device.
