I just recently got the HTC Hero and have a question regarding the mp3 player. When you go to albums and choose an album to play, I found that the tracks are not listed in the correct order. Is this seriously the case or is there a way to get albums to play as they should be played?

I have tried the default music player that is installed with the Droid-X. I've also bought the bTunes player and installed the MixZing player (free version). What is wrong that, by default, all list the tracks of an album in alphabetical order? At least bTunes will let you optionally sort by original track order (although the way given by bTunes is counter-intuitive and you have to start playing a track before you can sort).
By default, all albums should display in original track order. I suppose that for those who have difficulty reading, perhaps an option to list tracks in alphabetical order might be in order for ADA compliance or something. Otherwise, when I browse one of my albums, I want to see it in the order that the original artist intended.
I'm trying to use the in-built Media app but am finding it rather poor for two main reasons.
One is that it scans my entire SD card for music to play, which I really don't want it to do as it finds my podcasts downloaded by acast and the tags in those MP3 files are all over the place so make a mess of the Music Player lists. I've tried adding a .nomedia file to the podcast directory as suggested on another site but HTC's app doesn't pay any attention to that.
The second issue is that despite my files having MP3 track number tags, the Music Player app usually ignores those and sorts the tracks into alphabetical order which just doesn't work for a lot of my albums. It's not consistent with sorting, e.g. if I pick an album off the Albums list the tracks are in order and play in order in the track list for that album so I can hit the first track and it plays in order, but if I go back up to the albums screen and add the whole album to a playlist, sometimes it puts the tracks in order, other times it re-orders them in alphabetical order of track name. If I go to a particular artist or composer and select an album, it normally sorts the tracks by alphabetical order this time instead of tagged track order.. This is all with the same album too so it's not that some albums have track number ID3 tags and others don't.
I copy the MP3s across the USB link, I'm not using HTC Sync as it won't run on my desktop computer (a linux box), so I don't know if HTC Sync can help out here or not.
I'm using the packaged headphones with my Samsung Epic. One thing I've noticed is that I am unable to pause or skip tracks with the headphones. This was something I could do with my G1 and Palm Pre. Can the EPIC do this as well? Or it just the headphones? Can someone confirm?

View 29 Replies View RelatedI finally got around to putting some music files on the phone, sounds great, but the player plays the tracks of an album in alphabetical order, not in normal track order. Does anyone know of a solution to this? Right now all my music files (28 gigs worth) are wma files....could this be the problem? I want to convert all of them to mp3, anyone know of a quick way to do this. I know there are several programs I can use to do this, it just sounds rather time consuming. Hoping someone might have some tip for quick conversion.

I've never had this problem with iTunes or iPhone, but with Droid X, all of my MP3 albums are ordered in this way. (FYI, the issue is the same if it's an actual MP3 or AAC format.)

If you start playing by quick-pressing the album, it shows you the list of songs. If tagged correctly, this list is in correct song order, and will play the album in order from whichever song you select to start from. If not tagged correctly, it shows in alphabetical order.
So far, so good.. can't complain... BUT...
If you start playing an album by long-pressing it and selecting "Play", it plays it alphabetically, regardless of the status of the tagging.
I have now got Genres working in the Music player on my Desire but have hit a new problem. Track Order.
All the tracks in the folders on my SD card have track numbers, copied from the PC folders. This means that when I play an album on my PC it plays in the track order; essential for symphonies!
However in the Desire Music player tracks are sorted alphabetically; Astro shows me that the track numbers are there as part of the file name. I do not wish to created over 100 playlists.
Is there a way to get the Music player to sort tracks by track order?
I tried a couple of the programs that allow you extra home screens but like some people, I found out running into more troubles.
I decided to create folders and name them on my home page and then put various shortcuts in each folder. I have one for games, one for utilities one for multimedia etc.
My question is, how can I get these to be listed in alpabetical order?
Or is there a way that I can organize the apps in the order that I want them (maybe a list view vs. having the icons listed)?
I realize I could delete every icon in the folder and then manually add them in alphabetical order BUT if I find a new app and move it to a folder, it always puts the icon at the bottom of the list.
Can anyone tell me how to get downloaded tones or music to the correct files?

As a result I cannot preview any sounds or play any music unless I stream with pandora or something. I have installed another music player app, which is fine for music, but the default player remains the one that locks up, so if I click an audio file to preview it, that app comes up and locks. Is there a fix for this? Can I somehow set another 3rd party player as default?

Can I make it just play the songs in my songs folder (and sub-folders) on my SD Card? I only want it to search my songs folder, not the whole phone or the whole SD Card.
View 8 Replies View RelatedComing from a Iphone to the X the music player is a little lacking. Often I will go into a certain artist and want to play all the songs by that artist, or thumb through all their songs to find a certain one. On the stock music player on the X this seems hard to do (maybe I'm missing something).
if I pull up the music by artist and select a certain artist then it shows me all their albums (The iphone has the option at this point to select all albums and see all the songs of that artist in alphabetical order). The X doesn't give a option to select all albums at this point. If I go to artists and long press on a certain artist I can select play and it will start playing all that artists songs, then I can hit pause and go into the list from that point to see all the songs but they seem to be in a random order making it hard to find a specific song.
I've tried a couple other players and haven't been able to find one that functions like the Iphone, makes it hard to quickly find one song.

Now, all the albums are in perfect order with the right ID3 info but some compilations, when viewed by album, fragment into an individual list of tracks rather than an album view. Most annoying when you just wanna play album.
Are there any progs out there that I can use to better organise my music library so when I view all music by albums I don't get a massive list of individual tracks?
In o2 tracks is it possible to find the music downloaded in O2 tracks in the file system so I can put them into my normal music folder on my phone

Basically the music app downloads pinned tracks extremely slow despite fast internet connections. It can take more than an hour to download a 10 track album. I've noticed this when streaming music too, the buffer does not load quickly at all, barely keeping ahead of the playback. I'm running a custom 4.2.2 ROM on an evo 3d and I know that on an ICS ROM in the past I did not have this problem. From the linked discussion above it seems everyone is running JB who has this issue.
My current theory is it has something to do with the encryption of the music that the google music app does in order for your All Access music to not be transferrable off the device. Possibly with the new way JB organizes SD cards, this has created a rate limiting issue considering the app was originally programmed for ICS when it was birthed.
I have created an basic sound recorder application using MediaRecorder class. It has 3 buttons i.e.
1.Record: Start recording
2.Stop: Stop recording
3.Play: Play recorded file ( 3gp format)
I can record any number of files using this. Each files gets name as audio1,audio2 ..etc.The problem is after recording the file I can play it using play button. But if I exit my application I am not able to see that file listed in music menu in emulator. But at the same time when i browse my sdcard using eclipse I can see the recorded audio file. ( I have aleady mounted sdcard image and can see other sdcard content in emulator)Now if I close the emulator and relaunch it I can see that file in emulator music menu. Now suppose that file name is audio1.3gp. If I record a sound using my app it will record it using name audio1.3gp on same location. This time if I goto music menu I can see audio1.3gp file with latest recorded audio.
how to add album art to the music player? I have put 3 albums on my HTC Hero and none of them have their album art. I know it's nothing major but it's a nice little touch to be able to see the album art of the song playing.

I think it's caused by my phone dropping the signal completely, but it only happens when I've got the phone in my pocket. Is there a way to stop this? I've switched from the HTC player to MixZing lite, which has helped a lot, but it still does it.
