General :: How To Get Full Color Emoji System Wide
Nov 30, 2013
Can we somehow get android 4.4 color emoji on Android 4.2.2? I don't mind replacing some system files. Obviously Apple emojis would be cool, but they use some proprietary stuff in the ttf file.

I am using Apex now and I can change the icons in the drawer and homescreen but when i open the Recents menu or actually go into an app, the icons are still stock (or from applied theme).
Is it possible to change the icons system-wide or is there an app that can at least change the icons in the Recents menu?
My device is rooted running 4.1. .

I am trying to add a listener to my service that listens for volume key presses. I would like to act on presses even if my service is not in focus. Any idea how to do this? I have looked over the API, as well as performed google searches.

If I customize all of my alerts for SMS, email, calls, etc., to sounds (no vibrate), and put the phone in vibrate mode, does it replace all of these sounds with vibration? So that there is no sound coming out of the phone? Same with if I put the phone on silent? I would hope you don't have to go in and change the notification settings for each application to vibrate if you want vibrate, right?I've read some stuff that suggested that this could happen, and it doesn't make sense, but I wanted to make sure.

I'd like to receive a TouchEvent in my Android application any time the screen is touched. Even if my application is not in focus. Is there an general even listener or intent filter I can write to achieve this? The goal is to write system wide gesture engine. So for example, if the user swiped up and then down, a certain application would be launched regardless of where the user is.

How can I change the system default light blue color? I'd like to make it some sort of green. I'm talking about the light blue in such icons in the attached screen shots as the battery icon, the keyboard words, and the bottom bar when pulling down the notification tray. I assume it's just one setting somewhere because it's all the same blue. I am using Nova Launcher and would prefer not to root but might if necessary. I'm using the latest version of Jelly Bean on a Nexus 4

I'm not sure if it works on other devices I'm using an OV running cai. you won't need any messaging app other than stock. So go into your stock messaging app, and hit the menu button. Go into settings, and find emojis support, and check that. Then right above that (on my phone) check the option that says Unicode support. These options both are under extra settings!
Now to get the emojis go your messaging, go into a new message or one that your already talking to (your girl , hit the menu button and it gives the option the insert smiley's and the option to insert emojis! The rest is easy

I cobbled all of this together from various places on the web, but I think the credit for the binaries goes to Paul @ MoDaCo.
Nandroid before going any further!
Files you'll need:
QuickSSHD (Download this from the Market. $1.50). I'm just going to assume if you're still reading, you know what this is for and how to use it. It's braindead simple. I think dropbear can be installed and configured manually, but for the $1.50...meh.
The rest are zipped up here: terminfo.zip, nano, bash, profile**
Unzip bashnano.zip onto your SDCard.
From adb shell:
CODE:.................
I'm not sure if this setup will have any impact on sh scripts being used in the various ROMs, so use this at your own risk.
This will give you full bash over adb, but I haven't figured out where profile goes to add terminal/color et al. for adb.

We continue to build our fairly small applications on Android, iPhone and other mobile operating systems. This is fine and fun in the beginning of a new era, but when mobile OS matures, gets to be the preferred device for business people in motion, they want something more.
One would guess they want the same access and capability to ERP, MRP, BI-solutions and other reporting systems in there phone, right here, right now. How would we as developers deliver these demands, in a secure yet useful way? Is there today support for this kind of applications given they are not today on the web?
I understand the fact most EIS-solutions are web based. Still they are behind company gates, heavily garded by Cheif Information Security Officer (CISO) and his/her staff. Thus they are not accessible through the open unsecure internet but insede companies intranet or internal network. To my knowledge, accessing an EIS using an adress like https://www.thecompany.com/eis-solution/ signing in with username/password isn't done today. In the old days, a VPN-solution was one way to access inside EIS-solutions, but will this be done using a mobile device as well?

Softbank Japan has just released an sms/mms app that allows sending and receiving emoji! I just tested with my wife's iphone, and I could send emoji fine with my HTC Desire (Softbank x06HT), and I could receive it fine! A big selection of emoji too, maybe the complete set that Softbank usually includes on their other phones. It is buggy and a bit clunky, but it's a *lot* better than nothing! Lots of complaining in the comments section, but I don't think it's that bad. Now, the big question: Is it available in other markets? I'm in Japan right now, and I searched for "Softbank" in the market and I found it... It's called "Softbank メール". The link that they sent me in a news SMS is: "http://market.android.com/search?q=jp.softbank.mb.mail". They also say it is Froyo only...
Lastly, for those who have been in Japan a while and have an @softbank.ne.jp or @x.vodafone.ne.jp (like me) can now use those mails on their phones as well, inside the app. I sent myself a message and received it fine, and when I replied it sent from my old vodafone mail address (although I haven't figured out how to choose between SMS and e-mail for sending yet). EDIT: Figured it out, just type in a phone number (or choose from contacts) to send an SMS, type in an e-mail address to send from your @softbank or @vodafone address. Swet. I'll see if I can post the full message, for those who can read Japanese (I can't read very much of it, only hiragana/katakana).

I have created several files in a res/values/styles.xml file.
Here's one of them:
CODE:..............
I can apply the style to a single element in the xml by setting the style element like this:
CODE:.................
So, that works, and I notice that change. But what I really want to do is use the style above to apply to my entire application. I thought I'd be able to use this line:
this.getApplicationContext().setTheme(R.style.BlueOnWhite);
Before the super.onCreate of the first activity. But it doesn't work. Should it?

I want to apply theme over setting application wide. So I implemented below code but there was no effect.
1. AndroidMenifest.xml
<application android:label="@string/settings_label" android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher_settings" android:theme="@android:style/Widget.ListView" android:taskAffinity=""> -> added Widget.ListView style provided in android system and I changed style.xml file like below
2. FrameWork/base/core/res/res/values/styles.xml
before change : <item name="android:listSelector">@android:drawable/ list_selector_background</item>
After change: <style name="Widget.ListView" parent="Widget.AbsListView"> <item.................................

I am pondering the alternatives on how to scroll an "infinite", scale-like, control in android. The simple idea is to redraw the entire view on each scroll movement, but somehow it doesn't seem like the proper way. It is possible to draw the contents before-hand, but I have no clue how wide I should make the view in the first place, and what happens when the user scrolls to the end of the view? I guess I need to extend the view towards that direction. Should I go towards programatically adding (and removing) chunks of view to a linear layout? It would be great to hear what experiences are out there regarding drawing this kind of long-scrolling custom control.

On entering the application, screen goes black for 5-10 seconds, loads up each contact, picture, name, 20 seconds later, no lag. In this post, a Droid X user actually contacts Motorolla and Verizon about the issue:Text Lag is Back - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum.
