Sep 26, 2010My EditText needs to accept input consisting of partial words, names, etc. At least on my HTC Desire, this is difficult since the keyboard wants to suggest and/or correct some entries (e.g., changes "gor" to "for"). I tried setting textNoSuggestions on the view, but that doesn't fix it.

Jul 25, 2010On my old Blackberry I could programme the dictionary to change certain letter combos in to the correct words. Kind of like - "helo" > "hello".
As this was user programmable, it was also useful for including things like - "hl" > "hello mate".
On to my point. I write " I'll " a lot but get annoyed sticking the apostrophe in. If I write it without the apostrophe, it's just the word "ill" so it doesn't change it to "i'll". On my Blackberry I made "il" become "I'll".
Or, if I type " il " and keep selecting " I'll " from the suggested spellings, will the dictionary eventually change its default suggestion?

Oct 27, 2010How do I stop some of the symbols from automatically backspacing one space when I am typing?
For example when I type, "I'll be there @ 3:30" it auto corrects to, "I'll be there@ 3:30."
It does this with the @, &, ", - , and I am sure others. I end up having to delete the symbol, add the space again, then type the symbol.
HOW CAN I STOP THIS FROM BACKSPACING ON ITS OWN!
Sprint HTC Hero :: Auto Backlight Or Auto Brightness
Dec 9, 2009Are these the same? I have searched the forum, and can't seem to find the answer. I don't find any "auto brightness" setting in the settings menu on the Hero. I have auto backlight unchecked. What exactly does this do? Is this the screen dimming? Sorry, I am confused. Uh oh! Must be a senior moment!
While I am showing off photos I have on my phone, the screen dims...how do I keep this from happening?
Also, relating to photos..when I go to "Albums", I have 4 folders listed...Camera Shots, All Photos, etc. When I take a pictures with the phone camera, they seems to be in both folders. Why?

Jan 3, 2010Somebody please tell that im just having a bad dream. Am I the only one who can't talk and text at the same time. Every time I try i they don't send. Is it a settings issue or can the phone just not do it. If it can't i'm blown.

Was having problem with texting.. (see my other thread)
Went back to Fresh 2.3.3
I am now trying Cynogens again... Wiped everything, re-flashed.
Weirdness is now happening. Many of the apps that I previously downloaded are now on the Cynogen rom (and shouldn't be). I go into Market and it shows that I am downloading things and when I cancel it FC's the Market. How do I completely erase everything and start over?

Nov 13, 2009Except, of course, for one small detail.I'm bilingual,and a lover of Latina women (more info than you needed to know, I know!), so I am constantly switching back and forth between sending texts in English and in Spanish.Is there a way for my phone to recognize words in both English and Spanish?As it stands now, I'm having a hell of a time sending Spanish texts because it keeps suggesting words in English.

Jun 14, 2010I am using the stock texting option and have a group set up. This weekend I sent out a group text and several of them went to the email addresses. I think this is because the ?primary? contact is the phone then the email address. Before the update all texts would go to the proper number so the people would get the texts. Does anybody know how to change the ?primary? contact? I hate to think this is just another thing that 2.1 added (or took away) to make this phone??.well less that I expect at this point.

Sep 21, 2010Upgrading my Sprint Hero to 2.1 has been a complete disaster. The one improvement is that the browsers work faster. Oh...and the menus are prettier and perhaps more intuitive.
The phone and just about every other function hangs, the phone locks up constantly - especially when entering and leaving email - and generally is unusable. I've been doing battery pulls 4+ times a day just to get the phone re-started when it locks up.
I work for a university and they got me a warranty replacement, which I've had for all of 8 hours. I can already tell that it's not as responsive as the previous Hero before I "upgraded" it. I'm just hoping it won't be as consistently laggy and non-responsive as the upgraded one.
My advice to anyone reading this thread - if your phone has not been upgraded to OS 2.1, DO NOT DO IT. Wait until a couple more updates are available...my experience has been completely bad.
Right now I can't wait for another update, hoping that it will resolve all the lag and hangup problems created by 2.1.

I was on my main Home screen and just trying to figure stuff out and when I long press the menu key it brings up the onscreen keyboard. I figured it was for contact search or something, but it did nothing when I typed...or so I thought. Now everytime I back out to the Home screen a little transparent "window" displays with letters i first typed. I cant type new letters to display or even use the backspace key to erase. Any one know what Im talking about?

Oct 14, 2009Spent yesterday evening playing around with my new Hero...Pretty cool phone. One thing I do miss from my Blackberry is the automatic power on and off. I had it set to turn off at 11 PM and back on at 6:30 AM.
Maybe the Hero does it and I just havent figured out who to do it...Or maybe theres an app?

The gmail and google calendar auto sync fine, but whenever I add a contact I always have to do a manual sync on the phone to get the contact from my pc to phone or vice versa. So everyone has seen how the Auto-Rotation is on iPhone, Palm Pre' and Android handsets, and I was curious... shouldnt Android phones be able to do this task just as smooth as iPhone and Palm Pre'? Bringing this to my thought was the app "Floating Image". The Auto-Rotation on the app is amazing, and that just shows me, and makes me wonder, why cant all the other apps have the AR as smooth as this? (Even the keyboard). The slow delaying fade away is kind of a drawback (to an extent) know that Im 100% Android is capable of doing over and beyond that.

1. I can't figure out how uninstall apps.
2. I can't figure out how to set apps to auto-upgrade or what the function is to update all simultaneously. i've seen screenshots from others phone showing the "update all" function in Market. But it doesn't exist in mine. I'm wondering if that's because it doesn't exist for the Hero?

Apr 24, 2010I regret this so much and I should think next time, but I tried to clean my usb port with automotive brake cleaner because it wasn't charging. This MELTED my home and back buttons so they don't click anymore, started to dissolve the exterior paint, and damaged some of the interior plastic parts near the usb port.I took it apart and the board looks good, just some of the plastic interior parts disfigured a little bit, hence the home and back buttons not "clicking". I rinse off the bottom part of the phone with denatured alcohol to try and get rid of any extra brake cleaner and now I have the components sitting in a plastic baggy full of rice for the night. Does anybody know if the dummy phones in stores have working buttons? I'm thinking of buying a dummy phone b/c all I need is the front housing and working buttons.
