View 9 RepliesI had my physical keyboard open and I started to get word prediction at the bottom of the screen again. But I cant figure out how to get it every time the physical keyboard is open. Most of the time I get nothing but this is the second time I have seen this at the bottom. Anyone know what going on with this. There isn't a setting for it for built in keyboard settings page. I wish it would work all the time because it is a nice feature.

For example when I type, "I'll be there @ 3:30" it auto corrects to, "I'll be there@ 3:30."
It does this with the @, &, ", - , and I am sure others. I end up having to delete the symbol, add the space again, then type the symbol.
HOW CAN I STOP THIS FROM BACKSPACING ON ITS OWN!
I sometimes use a USB or Bluetooth keyboard with my Nexus 7 2013 tablet or a Nexus 5 phone, for extended note taking. I see options in the language and keyboard settings when I connect a physical keyboard, for auto-replace, auto-capitalization, and auto-punctuation. However, they appear to have no effect with either of my devices or either of my keyboards. Are these settings broken in KitKat 4.4.2?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAside from simply preferring a physical keyboard over a virtual keyboard, is there a reason now or possibly in the future to have one? My wife is trying to decide between getting a Droid herself or a Nexus. I know there are good reasons for and against, but this feature seems to be the fork in the road for her right now.

I understand some might say motorola's offering is the better of the two but personally, I can't get used to the physical keyboard.

My friend hates it so he uses swype (which i can't use worth crap) I text really slow on it, so i got an n1. Verizon plans are just too expensive for me anyway.

I have searched google and this forum and have not seen the same problem. When texting using my physical keyboard the phone inserts spaces or @ signs after letters that I type that are not the word I meant to spell. Sometimes what results is not even a word. I tried disabling the auto completion feature but it still happens. Has anyone else seen this and is there a fix?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy EditText needs to accept input consisting of partial words, names, etc. At least on my HTC Desire, this is difficult since the keyboard wants to suggest and/or correct some entries (e.g., changes "gor" to "for"). I tried setting textNoSuggestions on the view, but that doesn't fix it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my old Blackberry I could programme the dictionary to change certain letter combos in to the correct words. Kind of like - "helo" > "hello".
As this was user programmable, it was also useful for including things like - "hl" > "hello mate".
On to my point. I write " I'll " a lot but get annoyed sticking the apostrophe in. If I write it without the apostrophe, it's just the word "ill" so it doesn't change it to "i'll". On my Blackberry I made "il" become "I'll".
Or, if I type " il " and keep selecting " I'll " from the suggested spellings, will the dictionary eventually change its default suggestion?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince rooting & installing Bugless Beast, my on screen keyboard no longer defaults to upper case when I select a text field. It used to automatically show the upper case layout when I'd select say, the text message compose field, and then drop to lower case after the first letter. Now I have to manually capitalize the first letter. I've checked to make sure that auto capitalize is enabled in system settings. Anybody else have this problem and find a way to fix it?
View 44 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android, so please bear with me. It so happens that whenever I open the physical keyboard I can only type Arabic characters. I have tried unselecting the arabic language and changing between "motorola keyboard" and "Mobidiv keyboard" to no avail. It does not happen with the on-screen keyboard, that one is working fine. Its ridiculous, I am writing just fine on-screen, I open the keyboard and the Arabic characters start appearing.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have ICS on the DROID 4. Everything I use is stock, not rooted, all that jazz.
In the physical keyboard settings you can turn on these three options: Auto-replace, auto-capitalization, and insert a period after double-spacing with the space bar key.
If all three are turned on, they all work, as you would expect. However, if ONLY the double-space/period one is turned on -- which is what I desire -- then it does NOT work.
What is causing this glitch and how can I fix it?
