Android :: EditText Without Auto-correction
Sep 26, 2010My EditText needs to accept input consisting of partial words, names, etc. At least on my HTC Desire, this is difficult since the keyboard wants to suggest and/or correct some entries (e.g., changes "gor" to "for"). I tried setting textNoSuggestions on the view, but that doesn't fix it.

Jul 25, 2010On my old Blackberry I could programme the dictionary to change certain letter combos in to the correct words. Kind of like - "helo" > "hello".
As this was user programmable, it was also useful for including things like - "hl" > "hello mate".
On to my point. I write " I'll " a lot but get annoyed sticking the apostrophe in. If I write it without the apostrophe, it's just the word "ill" so it doesn't change it to "i'll". On my Blackberry I made "il" become "I'll".
Or, if I type " il " and keep selecting " I'll " from the suggested spellings, will the dictionary eventually change its default suggestion?

For example when I type, "I'll be there @ 3:30" it auto corrects to, "I'll be there@ 3:30."
It does this with the @, &, ", - , and I am sure others. I end up having to delete the symbol, add the space again, then type the symbol.

General :: Sony Xperia Z - Google Voice Typing Correction And Keyboard Overlap
Mar 15, 2014I am an android user, using sony xperia z with 4.3. I have problem about the google voice (GV for now) and keyboard, im not the same as everybody with missing GVT or wanting to disable it, i actually like it a lot, especially because it support my language (not english).
using voice input is easy:
1. i press the GV icon
2. i talk
3. text coming out, there will be miss typed/heard sentences
4. you know, if the system doubt your speech and want to correct it, you just tap the word with grey underline,it indicating that it have multiple option
5. then you choose the correct sentences
My step number 4 is a problem, because the correction that pop up to correcting/delete sentences is being blocked by keyboard, that is why i say it also a keyboard problem. so i cannot choose anything from it. and i have this problem since 4.2.2, the first day i upgraded it to 4.3 is okay, but suddenly it happen again. i don't think i will resetting or formatting because i have a lot of app and chat history that i cannot delete.

HTC EVO 4G :: Wimax - Connection Correction
Nov 3, 2010This is a confirmed fix for the long lag time (5+ minutes) to reconnect after losing a 4G signal.
Those of us using a rom with the newest software 1.47.651.1 have been having issues with the 4G connection not reconnecting when losing 4G signal. These instructions fix this problem.
Requirements:
Your MSL code (See Here: [How To] Retrieve MSL CDMA Workshop Method - xda-developers)
Instructions:
Turn OFF your 4G radio if it is turned on!
1) Click on phone and dial ##DATA# (##3282#)
2) Click on "Edit Mode"
3) Type in your MSL code (see above if you don't have it yet)
4) Click on the menu entry "WiMAX"
5) Scroll down the list and click on "WiMAX_Scan_Retry(s)"
6) Enter the number 15 and click "OK" (This equals 15 seconds instead of 300 seconds)
7) Scroll down the list and click on "WiMAX_Entry_Delay(s)"
8) Enter the number 0 and click "OK" (This equals 0 seconds instead of 300 seconds)
9) Press the "Menu" key and click on "Commit Modifications"
10) Grab a cup of coffee, get a bite to eat, or sit back and wait for your EVO to restart
Testing:
1) Go to your phone's settings and click on "Wireless & networks"
2) Scroll down and click on 4G settings
3) Click on 4G to turn it on and wait for the status to change to "Connected to Sprint"
4) Without touching any of the menu items, cover the top half of your phone with your hands until the status changes to "Scanning..."
5) Uncover the top of the phone and count the seconds until it says "Connecting to Sprint"
6) Realize that you no longer have to cycle the 4G radio to reconnect
Result:
After modifying my EVO and my girlfriend's EVO and inputting these changes, the phone will reconnect to the 4G tower in as little as 20 seconds!
Yes, 20 seconds, the most I have seen so far is 30 seconds after dropping the connection. This is a HUGE improvement over the 5+ minutes to reconnect (300+ seconds).
General :: Auto Restrict Background Data And Disable Auto-sync When Mobile Data Enabled
Aug 24, 2013I'm trying to limit my mobile data usage with out jumping through hoops.
I'm looking for a widget, that with one click of a button, it can restrict background data, disable auto-sync and enable mobile data, and when pressed again, enable WiFi, disable background restriction and enable auto-sync.
This function, no matter how trivial, would save time and effort.
Is there anything like this out there? Would something like this require root?

Dec 1, 2009what exactly does the Spell Correction feature do? I realized today that I had it disabled all this time. I tried typing with Spell Correction enabled but haven't noticed any difference. The user manual explains the settings like this:
Prediction Select to enable the word prediction feature which provides a list of possible words that reflect the characters of the keys you have tapped as well as characters of nearby keys.
Spell correction Select to correct typographical errors by selecting from a list of possible words that reflect the characters of the keys you have tapped as well as characters
of nearby keys. ...but the keyboard seems to me to function exactly the same with or without spell correction enabled.

Nov 12, 2010I posted this a few days ago but nobody can solve it and I know there must be a way. My problem is that whenever I go to type 'Yo' in a text, it automatically corrects it to 'To'. I'm guessing that I corrected this myself a while ago and now it has it saved. I already tried adding 'Yo' to my user dictionary but the problem persists. Is there really no way to change the default correction of a word?

Jul 20, 2010I'm looking for an alarm clock app with one very specific feature - allow me to set the alarm tone to automatically stop after X seconds, then start again at the next snooze interval, and play for another X seconds.
Sure it seems every alarm app out there allows me to set Snooze intervals and stuff, but with my waking up habit, I don't like to physically have to touch the phone to get it to shut up until the next snooze interval. I like to lay in bed and let the alarm go for like 3-4 snooze intervals before I finally wake up.
I've tried Alarm Clock PlusV2, Alarm Clock Xtreme, Quick Alarm. None of them seem to have this.
Android :: Task Panel Auto Kill Feature Not Auto-Killing?
Dec 7, 2009I installed it on my Droid and when I open the list and long press on an app it gives me the option to Auto-Kill. I assume this means I won't have to kill this app any longer so I select this option but I find that I keep having to kill the same apps over and over again. What's the point of Auto-Kill or what am I doing wrong? There are lots of programs (most I didn't even install) that run all the time and I'm having battery issues so I don't have battery to waste on programs I'm not using and will probably never use.

1. Scale the image so that it's just large enough to fill the the entire viewing area without any black borders, while still maintaining its aspect ratio. This might require clipping once the image is actually displayed, but that's OK (read on).
2. Then, center the image in the viewing area, both horizontally and vertically.
3. Finally, clip the image to the size of the viewing area, without any further rescaling.
I'm guessing that this kind of image processing is not automatically done via any of Android's facilities, and that I'll have to do it myself. If this is a correct assumption, could someone point me to some documentation or some examples which could explain how I can accomplish this? I'm guessing that I'll have to subclass my TextView and implement my own onDraw() method, but could someone confirm or deny that assumption?
Sprint HTC Hero :: Auto Backlight Or Auto Brightness
Dec 9, 2009Are these the same? I have searched the forum, and can't seem to find the answer. I don't find any "auto brightness" setting in the settings menu on the Hero. I have auto backlight unchecked. What exactly does this do? Is this the screen dimming? Sorry, I am confused. Uh oh! Must be a senior moment!
While I am showing off photos I have on my phone, the screen dims...how do I keep this from happening?
Also, relating to photos..when I go to "Albums", I have 4 folders listed...Camera Shots, All Photos, etc. When I take a pictures with the phone camera, they seems to be in both folders. Why?

So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

General :: How To Disable Go SMS Pro Auto Correct
May 23, 2012I have a Casio Commando not that it should matter. I've gone to Settings, Language & Keyboard and can't find anywhere there to turn off Auto Correct when texting. I don't mind it suggesting words and then me selecting them but it drives me nuts when I type a word and hit space and it automatically changes the words. How to make this stop, I'm ready to ditch Go SMS Pro and try another messaging App at this point.
