I was texting some friends and typed (gotmy stuff for free....) as you can see I forgot to put a space between got and my. well, the auto correct gave me a little surprise. try spelling gotmy in your evo and see what you get. you will see how things could go very wrong if you're not carefull.

I have switched to the Incredible from the BB Storm. In my Storm, I set "u" to auto-correct to "you," "brb" to auto-correct to "be right back," etc. What apps are available that include this? I think Uber Dictionary does, but I'd like to find one that i can use with Swype.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Casio Commando not that it should matter. I've gone to Settings, Language & Keyboard and can't find anywhere there to turn off Auto Correct when texting. I don't mind it suggesting words and then me selecting them but it drives me nuts when I type a word and hit space and it automatically changes the words. How to make this stop, I'm ready to ditch Go SMS Pro and try another messaging App at this point.

View 29 Replies View RelatedI've got a 3TB external drive drive hooked up to my Ouya running CM11 (Android 4.4)
I run Nzbget and Transmission in optware, and use CM primarily as a vehicle for XBMC so I need the space.
I had it in 2 ext4 partitions which needed a init script to mount under the stock OS.
I was hopping to get it working in a less hacky manner under CM.
I tried with the two parts, and no go so i redid it with one big partition with root as the UID and sdcard_rw as the GID.
Still no dice. I can access it in File Manager with elevated permissions, but no go in XBMC or other apps.
Also tried one big exFAT partioning with no luck.
I plugged in an 8g ntfs drive I had and it automounted it no problem.
What is the right way to configure the drive? We're a Linux household so sticking with ext2/3/4 would be ideal. NTFS I would like to avoid.
When using Google Hangouts to text on my Nexus 5, every time I enter a web url the string is spell checked and becomes un-clickable. Example:If I type: "whatismyandrioidversion.com" into a txt/sms chat using hangouts, the string is spell checked and auto corrected to "what is my android version.com".
So, then I have to go through a very annoying process of deleting the spaces between each word and fixing the url before I send the message.
If is there a ways to remove/delete words you might have added by accident from the auto-correction feature?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for an alarm clock app with one very specific feature - allow me to set the alarm tone to automatically stop after X seconds, then start again at the next snooze interval, and play for another X seconds.
Sure it seems every alarm app out there allows me to set Snooze intervals and stuff, but with my waking up habit, I don't like to physically have to touch the phone to get it to shut up until the next snooze interval. I like to lay in bed and let the alarm go for like 3-4 snooze intervals before I finally wake up.
I've tried Alarm Clock PlusV2, Alarm Clock Xtreme, Quick Alarm. None of them seem to have this.
I installed it on my Droid and when I open the list and long press on an app it gives me the option to Auto-Kill. I assume this means I won't have to kill this app any longer so I select this option but I find that I keep having to kill the same apps over and over again. What's the point of Auto-Kill or what am I doing wrong? There are lots of programs (most I didn't even install) that run all the time and I'm having battery issues so I don't have battery to waste on programs I'm not using and will probably never use.

1. Scale the image so that it's just large enough to fill the the entire viewing area without any black borders, while still maintaining its aspect ratio. This might require clipping once the image is actually displayed, but that's OK (read on).
2. Then, center the image in the viewing area, both horizontally and vertically.
3. Finally, clip the image to the size of the viewing area, without any further rescaling.
I'm guessing that this kind of image processing is not automatically done via any of Android's facilities, and that I'll have to do it myself. If this is a correct assumption, could someone point me to some documentation or some examples which could explain how I can accomplish this? I'm guessing that I'll have to subclass my TextView and implement my own onDraw() method, but could someone confirm or deny that assumption?
Are these the same? I have searched the forum, and can't seem to find the answer. I don't find any "auto brightness" setting in the settings menu on the Hero. I have auto backlight unchecked. What exactly does this do? Is this the screen dimming? Sorry, I am confused. Uh oh! Must be a senior moment!
While I am showing off photos I have on my phone, the screen dims...how do I keep this from happening?
Also, relating to photos..when I go to "Albums", I have 4 folders listed...Camera Shots, All Photos, etc. When I take a pictures with the phone camera, they seems to be in both folders. Why?
My wife and I have been having the same problem. We keep the auto-brightness option checked, but every so often we find that it goes back to manual mode--and it always reverts the phone back to full brightness setting. Any ideas why this would happen?

So i have that checked off for like 80+% of my 80+ apps (that took a while to do let me tell you). Now i have had three apps have updates available since i checked off the box, yet they never actually automatically updated. I waited, hours, still never updated. Is there a setting i need to modify? Do i need to tell it what time of day to do it? Anyone else noticing this? I only really want it in apps that i don't care about reading the new features. But it is annoying that i have it enabled and it does nothing.

For the last month I moved to Spain to work, and I'm having some trouble with the hour mechanism on the phone. I've set the phone clock to the correct time and Time Zone (GMT +1). But since the SIM card is from a portuguese carrier (Vodafone PT), maybe it is configured has beeing GMT 0.
Well all the time settings are manually configured and I've turned off the automatic settings.
What happens is that every week I must pay attention to the clock, because the phone changes the time automatically to one hour early. I think that this must be related to the configuration of the SIM card, but my configurations are all manual.
Does anyone have a similar problem? can it be corrected or is a known bug with Android/phone?
I am trying to get phone's correct timezone. I tried String newTzID = Calendar.getInstance().getTimeZone().getID(); This is returning "America/Atikokan". But my phone's timezone is EST. Both of these have an offset of GMT -5 hours. But I actually need to differentiate between EST and "America/Atikokan", since "America/ Atikokan" doesn't have day light savings time. Is there a way to get the correct id?

I have double checked my JSONArray data and made sure they are not duplicates. It seems to keep adding the first object over and over.
My android app contains a suite of mini apps. In short, the main screen contains several icons, one each for the mini apps. When an icon is clicked, the mini app is launched.
In total I have 4 mini apps. So you could imagine that my main screen is like the Home Screen Launcher. Although these mini apps could run standalone by their own, I want the user to be authenticated. Thus there is a LoginActivity right before the MainActivity.

I'm still not pretty sure of the benefit of Tasks (arranged set of Activities), so I would like comments from Android experts on my design decisions:-
(1) I plan to set the attribute finishOnTaskLaunch to true for LoginActivity. As I understand it, once the login is authenticated, I will navigate the user to MainActivity, and I want LoginActivity to disappear. Is this better than calling #finish on the Activity ? Will MainActivity automatically become the root of the Task without any extra configuration/code ?
(2) One of the mini app is an IM client. The PresenceListActivity will hosts many instances of ChatActivity (one-to-one chat session with an active contact in the buddylist). I plan to use the default launchmode for ChatActivity since each Chat should be handled by a new instance. Sounds correct ?
(3) A sticky navigation bar will exists in the top corner of AppOneActivity, AppTwoActivity etc.. I plan to set the clearTaskOnLaunch attribute to true for all of them. As I understand it, I should clear the stack whenever I plan to launch into any of the mini apps. Also their launchModes will be singleTask. Am I on the right path ?
(4) Finally I don't really understand how to read the output of adb shell dumpsys activity. For example
