Oct 26, 2009Has anyone else had their WIFI connection just drop the connection? I'm sitting less than 5 feet from my router and have to restart my WIFI twice within the last hour.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Unable To Download Stuff Without WiFi Connection
Nov 30, 2009I've been having a problem for the last few hours where my Hero refuses to download anything without a WiFi connection. I've been messing with it and it seems like my mobile network isn't connecting correctly. I had to power down the phone earlier because it froze to black screen and I couldn't escape out of it and ever since then its been problematic. My Mobile network icon says "standby for connecting to mobile network" I'm not sure if thats bad or good, never actually looked at it. Any help or am I gonna want to do a factory reset?

Mar 17, 2010This is something I have wondered about Android OS/Hero/Sprint since day one of my purchase, but I have never brought it up here. When mobile network is off and WiFi is enabled, I cannot retrieve my Yahoo Mail. It has never really bothered me, because when mobile network is connected and WiFi is off, my mail app (which is connected to Yahoo - I don't use Gmail) worked perfectly fine. Does anybody else use Yahoo as their email server and has the same issue? Is it just Google sticking it to their customers and to Yahoo by saying "ok, if you wan't to use our (#1 competitor's) email service, then we will make it so it will only work on Mobile Networks.

May 26, 2010Where I work is on Sprint and has bought Hero's for the office people. Most seem to like them. I like mine too(my own). However, my Hero has horrible reception. There are a few places around where I work that are dead zones. I drop calls there EVERY time. They NEVER drop there. We even went through there on the way to lunch the other day and all of us made a call to see how reception was on each. My Hero dropped the call and the rest did not. I have updated everything and still nothing. Sprint seems to be unconcerned. How can I get them to swap phones or something. I actually purchased from Best Buy. I was on 1.5 and have switched to 2.1 and it is the same on both.

Sprint HTC Hero :: After 2.1 Upgrade / Phone Seems Laggy / Network Drop Out
Aug 3, 2010I wanted to ask you if there are some must do's after upgrading to 2.1.Since upgrading..the phone is very laggy and sometimes the network will just drop.I won't be able to surf or use any programs that require getting on the internet.Is there something I can do now that I'm on 2.1 to restore it's speed? Should I do a reset to the phone and then upgrade to 2.1?What have you guys done to speed up the phone?

Mar 3, 2010Lately I have been getting very poor signal strength on my Hero. It went from 3 or 4 bars, down to 1 or 2 at my house, and I constantly drop calls. I live in an area where I am supposed to have excellent signal strength too. Called tech support, they checked the towers, and all is fine. I have my phone set to Sprint only, and whenever I make a call, and end the call, my signal drops to 0, and sometimes even get an x meaning no signal, but either way what bothers me is when I end the call my data, whether it is Ev, or 1x lights up and sends/receive's data for about 5 seconds. After that the signal comes back. Now what in the world does data have to do with voice? Nothing. My phone is stock with no 3rd party apps installed at all.
I have reset to factory too, doesn't help Firmware and PRL are both up to date too.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Sprint Hero WiFi Interfering W/WiFi Router
Dec 19, 2009Wife and I each have new Sprint HTC Hero. We also have a home wifi network using an older (pre-802.11n) Apple Airport Extreme base station as WDS main and an old Apple Airport Express as a WDS remote. When we're home we tend to turn on our phone's wifi.
As long as only one phone has wifi turned on, everything is fine. But within minutes of turning on wifi on the second phone as well, our wifi router starts to lose it. Apparent massive interference. After a few more minutes the router becomes catatonic, so much so that Airport Utility cannot even see the router at all.
A power cycle of the router fixes things for at most a few minutes, then it rapidly goes downhill again. Turning off the wifi on one phone (doesn't seem to matter which one) and power-cycling the router brings back perfect sanity until the next time wifi on both phones is turned on.
I have neither the time nor the energy to go through the inevitable denials and mutual finger-pointing with Apple and Sprint, but I thought I would make note of it here for the benefit of the community.

Jul 1, 2010iv just got a replacement hero and i cant get it to connet to my bt home hub, my last one did no problems but when i try with my new one it just comes back as unsuccessful, it does seem to connect to bt openzone tho if that helps.

Aug 1, 2009There appears to be an issue with my Hero-router WiFi connection. Has anyone had similar experiences or have any advice? My Hero can generally see my home wireless router and report a good signal, though the visibility can drop out (when my other devices are still happily connected). It can also see my neighbors' networks, so it isn't a range issue.
For the most part, the Hero just doesn't seem to want to connect. If I reboot the router it will connect briefly for a couple of secs. I've tried altering a few of the router broadcast settings, trying b-only/ g-only/ b+g, but this hasn't helped (n isn't available, but I understand the Hero to be g anyway). I haven't yet been to another WiFi area, to check if it will connect to other networks. My suspicion is it is a specific compatibility issue with my router (Zoom).

Sep 19, 2009My WiFi drops connection all the time which seems to be a common problem for many Hero users. I've found the 'Wifi Fixer' application helps a little bit. You can download it for free from Market. It tries to reconnect your WiFi in the background everytime it drops.

The board housed into WCDMA / GSM (Dual Sim is) of any operator is, after a while it stops working. If you are calling .... the other party ceases to feel. If you're not in call, see the signal bar to go to RED and is not accessible. The same card placed on a older Android Phone 2. * Works perfectly.

Feb 23, 2010My Hero was connecting to my home WiFi perfectly (for about 5 weeks) - yesterday it stopped connecting, now just says CONNECTION UNSUCCESSFUL?OBTAINING IP ADDRESS.
I have not changed any of my router settings/phone settings, so this is strange. I have tried deleting link and re inputting key (this worked once, but now no longer works)

Nov 11, 2009I have my Droid connected to my computer via the USB that came in the box. The phone recognizes the cable, chimes, and has the USB icon on the screen. But the computer doesn't recognize the phone at all. It could be a problem with my computer, but I'm checking here in case I just can't find the option on the phone to "allow USB connection" or something.

Apr 17, 2010I went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Keep Losing GPS And Data Connection
Jul 13, 2010seemingly for no reason. running fresh 2.3.3, and whatever stock kernels/overclockers or whatever, come with it) i've searched on here but havent really found the answer.it seems about 50% of the time when i go to either the browser or maps (or something that uses GPS), i'll find no connection. toggling airplane mode seems to remedy data connection, but i usu have to reboot to bring GPS back up. anyone else having these issues?

No visible notification but the EV symbol at the top of the screen will always be "lit up" w/ the upload/download arrows showing no activity. I always have to switch the airplane mode on for a second and turn it back off. I have bluetooth automatically connect to my car when I'm in it and don't know if that's what is causing it? Anyone else having this issue and finding a cure? I updated PRL as well as firmware, but no luck.

Nov 8, 2010I originally posted this in the CM 6 thread, but after doing a nandroid restore and also flashing to Fresh 2.4 I'm still having this issue. I rebooted my phone this morning (was running CM6 6.1.0 RC1) and ever since the reboot I cannot connect to any google services and the data connection when connecting to webpages is hit or miss. When I try to connect to my google account on the initial setup for CM6 and for Fresh 2.4 I get the error: 'cant establish a reliable data connection to the server'. I have good to great signal strength yet terrible connection. Would updating my radio help? After doing some googling someone suggested updating my profile through the system settings. Can I do that with a rooted phone or do I have to flash back to an official update?

Jun 4, 2010I updated to the Official Sprint 2.1 update when it became available and prior to that I was running the leaked RUU. No issues with either and a general improvement in Hero performance with both, except for one quirk occurring only with the Official ROM. About 33% of the time, when initially powering up the phone in the AM, I would not get an automatic web connection. The phone function would operate, I would get the signal strength bars and Ev symbol, but no web. When this happened, I would turn off the phone and then immediately turn it back on and it would always auto connect to the web the second time and everything would work fine.
One of these times I also removed the battery before I turned it back on, but the problem would still occur occasionally. I called Sprint Tech Support and asked about the issue. The Technician looked at my account and made an update to it on his end, then asked me to go into Settings/About Phone/System Updates and do an "Update Profile". He said it should alleviate the non-connection problem. So far the phone has worked perfectly after doing this.
