Just got a new Hero using a PAYG o2 sim and I am having trouble connecting to the internet without Wi-Fi. I remember someone saying that it was easy entering the settings for o2. Can some kind soul give me a simple step-by-step instruction for setting up the hero with o2?

I will be visiting the UK in April and would like to use my Hero whilst over there, predominantly for Internet access, can anyone recommend the best value PAYG package, I have seen previously that T-Mobile have a package for 7 days unlimited access for ?5, is that still available? And is that the best solution, my Hero is unlocked, rooted and running MoDaCo 3.1.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm a very light mobile phone user (100 minutes per month at most, often much less, with a sprinkling of texts) and I expect to need intensive mobile internet access only sporadically. Since much of this will be while travelling abroad I don't want to get locked into a large regular commitment to a UK carrier.
If all I wanted was phone access (calls and texts) the obvious answer would be a standard PAYG deal where the value of each top-up stays on the phone indefinitely until I use it. However, so far as I can see, this kind of deal doesn't seem to be available for internet data access (except at ridiculous prices like ?1 per MB).
At reasonable rates per GB all I can find are "rolling" deals where I pay monthly until I cancel or one-off "add-ons" (for example from Three where I can buy 500MB for use within 7 days or 2GB for use within a month). In either case, any allowance I don't use within the period goes to waste. What's more the one-off add-on carries the risk of forgetting to look out for the end of the 7-day or 30-day period and getting hit by penal charges.
My Hero was connecting to my home WiFi perfectly (for about 5 weeks) - yesterday it stopped connecting, now just says CONNECTION UNSUCCESSFUL?OBTAINING IP ADDRESS.
I have not changed any of my router settings/phone settings, so this is strange. I have tried deleting link and re inputting key (this worked once, but now no longer works)
My router is on the recommended WPA-2 setting, and is regarded as a friendly router for the Hero (Netgear 834dg)
After updating to Froyo, I can no longer connect to my home WiFi. anyone else having a similar issue? I've tried re-entering my WEP key with no luck. I know my WiFi is working, I took Froyo on it and my wife's Evo that hasn't been updated to Froyo connects fine.

If the internet connection is cut-off the application needs to "sleep" in order to reduce the battery consumption. If the internet connection is back the application should "awake". I'm searching for any kind of event notification available for C++. I don't want to use pooling. My phone is connected to my home wireless and it even has really strong signal but going on the internet simply doesnt work. Going on with mobile data works, but connected to my main wifi source doesnt. I've been trying everything from dailing *#0011# to changing the ips and gateways and whatever. It can connect to the wifi but going on the internet/facebook/youtube is difficult.

I want to connect to internet through Connectify (2.1.1) but I can not, Hero is always just obtain address, but never connects.
Do I have to do anything with advanced settings on hero, or enything else?
I am having real problems getting my hero to connect to vodafone internet. Vodafone have twice sent settings but my phone hasnt received them. I have tried some different APN settings that I found on the internet, but without success. Since the update I can't seem to find where you can check that the phone is enabled for 3g.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had WiFi tethering for awhile now, but I have never got it to work properly. The problem is that I will have, say, my laptop, or any device for that matter, connected to my Droid and I am able to maintain a steady internet connection for about a minute. After that, the tethering application reports a download speed of 0.0kbps. If I disconnect my laptop (or other device) and reconnect it, it'll start to work again, but only for about another minute. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

View 8 Replies View Relatedi just picked up a unlocked a moto cliq.. my concern is that i have never had a data plan on my account (at&t). this phone seems to have alot of different apps and widgets updating themselfs continuosly.. i have no problem with while im at home beacuse of my wifi that i can connect to.. but when im not on a wifi connection it seems to still be updating.. which i dont want until i upgrade my plan to unlimited data.. View 4 Replies View Relatedfor whatever reason today we lost our internet connection at work. Now I work for an airline doing charters and today we added a second flight to each shift. So I tethered my phone for the 3g and just plugged it in at the end of the day to charge it. Needless to say it handeled 300 passengers/customers easy. Changes, bag fees, checking in and selling for a solid 8hrs today! I don't think I'll ever get another cell phone ever. Maybe a bigger SD, but phone, probably not.

When I have wi fi turned off, as I can't connect when I am not in work anyway I use the usual O2 facilty however in this mode, I cannot download anything. a) send messages to other Android phones via bluetooth
b) sent messages by connecting to a common wifi network (yet not connected to the internet)
c) create an ad-hoc network and send messages that way.
Would any of those be feasible at all?
Have set up Portable Wi-Fi hotspot on my 4S 4.2.2. Everything seems OK and laptop identifies AP and connects to it
but there is no internet connection to the phone. Data 3G works perfectly - regular internet works perfectly - Orange UK.
When my wifi scans on my HTC hero my router is not picked up (even though im sitting right next to it). I also tried adding it myself and when I had completed that it just says "not in range, remembered" or something.

I know it depends on usage, but they couldn;t tell me if I, say, checked my emails a couple of times and used the GPS a couple of times a day, how big a chunk of my 15 it would take.

I see there's a decent solution for syncing with Outlook through HTC sync.It makes me wonder if there's also a possibility to share the internet connection on PC with HTC sync or any other app? I mean, to use the phone as a 3G modem when connected to PC?This feature would help a lot.since I don't have a separate mobile net stick on my laptop, but used my phone so far to have internet access on the go. With Windows Mobile phone and ActiveSync it was quite buggy but possible, with my current Nokia phone and the Nokia Software it's just two clicks after I connect the phone to the PC.I wonder if there's a similar solution supported for Android?

I don't know if it is important, but it always seems to be connected to Edge, and not any other type of connection. I also use NetSentry, but I don't think this could be part of the problem, could it?

When I turn on the WiFi on my hero it will not show the SSID name of my network. The odd thing is that when I use WiFi scanner (nice program) it shows my WiFi network SSID, but I cannot connect to my WiFi using that program.
