View 2 Replies View RelatedBeing impressed by what I saw and read about Hero, I'm considering getting one.What usually isn't part of the reviews is, how the sync application(s) work together with the phone. I see there's a decent solution for syncing with Outlook through HTC sync.It makes me wonder if there's also a possibility to share the internet connection on PC with HTC sync or any other app? I mean, to use the phone as a 3G modem when connected to PC?This feature would help a lot.since I don't have a separate mobile net stick on my laptop, but used my phone so far to have internet access on the go. With Windows Mobile phone and ActiveSync it was quite buggy but possible, with my current Nokia phone and the Nokia Software it's just two clicks after I connect the phone to the PC.I wonder if there's a similar solution supported for Android?

I don't know if it is important, but it always seems to be connected to Edge, and not any other type of connection. I also use NetSentry, but I don't think this could be part of the problem, could it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had a Hero for a few weeks now, and while most things are great, I'm finding the internet connection very unreliable. For example, if I try to use the browser to view a website, often it says it can't find the page, even for www.google.com, and this is using a bookmark so I know it's a valid address. Often in the Market, it says it doesn't have a connection and to retry or cancel.
I am usually connected via wi-fi, either at home or at the office, so I know the wi-fi connection is good, and both have been tested thoroughly with my iPhone 3G. It's almost as if I have to wait for something to happen before I can use the net, but I make sure the wifi signal symbol appears before I try anything. Why could my data connection be so unstable?
I got my HTC Hero the other day and am very very happy with it. The only problem is that I cannot connect to the internet through "Mobile Network". I am on a "3" contract and I am able to access "my 3" which is where I can look at my account, look at my last bill, check my usage, etc. I can also connect to 3 - Home - that loads fine. But any other website (google, bbc, facebook, etc.) will not load - it just times out after a while.
It seams obvious to me that this is an issue with my account on 3. I don't know how many hours I've been on the phone to these guys. I have gone through all the settings with them, more than twice - replaced my SIM card and tried my SIM in another phone. So Three are now looking into it and have passed my issue onto the network's team, now they said that it may take up to 21 days for someone to get back to me!
Just got a new Hero using a PAYG o2 sim and I am having trouble connecting to the internet without Wi-Fi. I remember someone saying that it was easy entering the settings for o2. Can some kind soul give me a simple step-by-step instruction for setting up the hero with o2?

I have been a Blackberry and Windows Mobile user for the last eight years. I am 55% sure that I want to get the Hero but I am not 100% sold. I am also considering the Pre. I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.

With winmo when an app need to access the internet it would automatically connect and then after a certain amount of time idle it would disconnect. I have not been able to do this with android. Is there an app that will do this for me?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing 2.1 the other day, i noticed this: menu > settings > connect to pc > default connection type > internet sharing then, i noticed this: men > settings > wireless & networks > internet sharing (checkbox) I don't remember noticing this in 1.5. and always tethered using pdanet. is this a new function of 2.1? and, by using it, does anyone know if sprint will charge us extra?

View 7 Replies View Relatedseemingly for no reason. running fresh 2.3.3, and whatever stock kernels/overclockers or whatever, come with it) i've searched on here but havent really found the answer.it seems about 50% of the time when i go to either the browser or maps (or something that uses GPS), i'll find no connection. toggling airplane mode seems to remedy data connection, but i usu have to reboot to bring GPS back up. anyone else having these issues?

I know that the USB ports are fine because other flash drives work fine, plus my phone shows as connected on my PC. I already tried rebooting my PC and phone the RUU software still wont recognize my phone and just tells that there's an error connection. I already tried mounting my phone from the phone settings...

The Sprint CSR that I spoke with last night went through some settings with me but eventually she escalated the call and I was disconnected shortly thereafter due to a terrible connection. I just spoke with another Sprint CSR and once again I was told that there is no way to share the Internet connection with my PC, yet I see that there appear to be many people who are able to do this. The CSR said that some of the legacy customers were grandfathered in... is this the case? I am running OS 2.1 Update 1 according to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Firmware version
I would REALLY like to have this capability when I travel... I don't need it here at home, but on the road, it would really help, especially in the airports.
After I updated to the 2.1 I get the following options when I connect my phone to my computer via USB:
Charge Only
--Charge phone over USB
HTC Sync
--sync contacts and calendar
Disk Drive
--Mount as Disk Drive
Internet Sharing
--Share phone's mobile network with PC
When I click on Internet Sharing I get the following message:
Data Call Failure
"Error Code 67 .Registration failure.
Your PCS Vision username and/or
password may be incorrect. Please
try again."
However I have no way of adding that information. Is this a service you have to pay for (extra) in your Sprint Bill? Or is it a bug in the 2.1 update.
I am wondering if there is an application I can download or purchase so that I can run the Internet on my laptop off of my phone's Internet. I have a htc hero and I want to do away with my Internet card so my phone bill will be cheaper.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince I got my Hero in November, I've been able to use the internet while on a phone call through my Bluetooth headset.I've done it hundreds of times.Everything from surfing the web to clicking and viewing picture links in Twitter texts.Suddenly, tonight, I tried to do it and noticed that I had no internet connection.As soon as I hung up from the call, the internet kicked back on.I looked up what I was trying to look up and when I got another phone call, it kicked off again.I have looked up this issue and have read repeatedly that you can't do this on a CDMA network.My question is this...why was I able to do it for months and suddenly I'm not? I just did it last night!

I've been rooted for quite some time now, so I doubt I'm making a noob mistake. Although I'm no rom writer, so I could missing something.

No visible notification but the EV symbol at the top of the screen will always be "lit up" w/ the upload/download arrows showing no activity. I always have to switch the airplane mode on for a second and turn it back off. I have bluetooth automatically connect to my car when I'm in it and don't know if that's what is causing it? Anyone else having this issue and finding a cure? I updated PRL as well as firmware, but no luck.

But I would still use wifi to browse internet(not data)...is that possible? i know airplane mode will turn everything off; even wifi. so my question is, how do i turn off all data/phone and still use wifi to browse internet?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI originally posted this in the CM 6 thread, but after doing a nandroid restore and also flashing to Fresh 2.4 I'm still having this issue. I rebooted my phone this morning (was running CM6 6.1.0 RC1) and ever since the reboot I cannot connect to any google services and the data connection when connecting to webpages is hit or miss. When I try to connect to my google account on the initial setup for CM6 and for Fresh 2.4 I get the error: 'cant establish a reliable data connection to the server'. I have good to great signal strength yet terrible connection. Would updating my radio help? After doing some googling someone suggested updating my profile through the system settings. Can I do that with a rooted phone or do I have to flash back to an official update?
View 17 Replies View RelatedI updated to the Official Sprint 2.1 update when it became available and prior to that I was running the leaked RUU. No issues with either and a general improvement in Hero performance with both, except for one quirk occurring only with the Official ROM. About 33% of the time, when initially powering up the phone in the AM, I would not get an automatic web connection. The phone function would operate, I would get the signal strength bars and Ev symbol, but no web. When this happened, I would turn off the phone and then immediately turn it back on and it would always auto connect to the web the second time and everything would work fine.
One of these times I also removed the battery before I turned it back on, but the problem would still occur occasionally. I called Sprint Tech Support and asked about the issue. The Technician looked at my account and made an update to it on his end, then asked me to go into Settings/About Phone/System Updates and do an "Update Profile". He said it should alleviate the non-connection problem. So far the phone has worked perfectly after doing this.
I rooted and installed fresh rom, but no I have no internet on my device.
