Jul 20, 2010I'm wondering about the differences between the two, I know they are both stock-ish roms and everything I just don't feel like reading 1000 pages over the two at xda. The main things I'm wondering about where they differ are free internal memory right after flashing (I'm not interested in A2SD), and of course, speed/stability. I will be overclocking either one should I use them.

May 10, 2010When I installed DamageControl v2.08.1 on my cdma Hero the calendar and date are 24 hours off! Time is correct but it's the next day. When I did a back up of this install it even used the wrong date on the backup. I have a bunch of small issues that I think with patience I may be able to work around but this clock/date thing has me puzzled. Also has anyone figured out how to put a custom city in for the weather widget and not one of the ones listed but for example a small town (any town) some where in the USA? I could do this on my 1.5 but this weather widget acts like the clock and you can only use their listed cities.

Oct 5, 2009I have been a Blackberry and Windows Mobile user for the last eight years. I am 55% sure that I want to get the Hero but I am not 100% sold. I am also considering the Pre. I know this sounds crazy, but the absolute #1 thing I need is Internet sharing and tethering capability; even more so than a phone itself. I must be able to connect my phone to my laptop, either by usb or bluetooth, and have it working in less than 30 seconds each time. I currently run Ubuntu 9.4 and Windows Vista/XP. My windows mobile phone works with all of these, and quickly.I have searched and searched but have found nothing as to wether the Sprint version is capable of thethering.

One thing I like about Seesmic is its ability to automatically generate a bit.ly short link from a long URL. However, therein lies the problem: if I use the default browser, and select Share Page (URL), I only get four choices: gmail, mail, messages, and Peep. Does anyone know how to add Seesmic to the list of choices?

Jun 18, 2010The Sprint CSR that I spoke with last night went through some settings with me but eventually she escalated the call and I was disconnected shortly thereafter due to a terrible connection. I just spoke with another Sprint CSR and once again I was told that there is no way to share the Internet connection with my PC, yet I see that there appear to be many people who are able to do this. The CSR said that some of the legacy customers were grandfathered in... is this the case? I am running OS 2.1 Update 1 according to Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Firmware version
I would REALLY like to have this capability when I travel... I don't need it here at home, but on the road, it would really help, especially in the airports.

Jul 18, 2010After I updated to the 2.1 I get the following options when I connect my phone to my computer via USB:
Charge Only
--Charge phone over USB
HTC Sync
--sync contacts and calendar
Disk Drive
--Mount as Disk Drive
Internet Sharing
--Share phone's mobile network with PC
When I click on Internet Sharing I get the following message:
Data Call Failure
"Error Code 67 .Registration failure.
Your PCS Vision username and/or
password may be incorrect. Please
try again."
However I have no way of adding that information. Is this a service you have to pay for (extra) in your Sprint Bill? Or is it a bug in the 2.1 update.

Dec 13, 2009I noticed that the Hero lacks the option to share a video recorded via the phone to Facebook (an option I liked on the Instinct).Does anyone know of a good app that allows this? Is this an option they are going to add in the future? I just started using the app for 'Qik', however this is primarily to stream live video from your phone to your Qik channel. It does post a link on FB for others to see the video, even if no longer streaming live, but the videos you record when using the app do not stay native to the phone (cannot view / locate videos in your albums) and you have to go to your channel to view them.Curious if anyone knew of an app that allows you to choose a video from albums and share on social media sites (specifically FB).

And for the Root part I used Instant Root Acess which worked great! gained root access and downloaded a couple of rott access requiring apps to confirm.
Problem arose when I started using the market app ROM Manager. Firstly, when trying to flash the cusom recovery image, Pressing the appropriate menu button brought up a sub menu where i confirmed my phone type but then nothing, the app just stopped. I waited 30 secs or so, TasKilled it and tried again, same thing.............
HTC Desire :: Internet Connection Sharing
Apr 10, 2010I have created an adhoc wifi connection with internet sharing enabled on windows 7 and am struggling to get my Desire to see it. Another laptop can see it as well as my ipod touch.
I have tried both WEP and WPA-2 security types (only two available) and I cannot see the wifi.
Is there anything I have to do on the phone?
Forgot to add - I am able to connect to my home wifi (bt homehub) but I am no longer at home.

The connection is open with WEP disabled.From a Windows Mobile 6 PDA I am able to see various WiFi routers, my laptop ICS and connect to the laptop ICS.From Android I am only able to see the various WiFi routers, but not the laptop ICS connection.Does the Windows ICS use some special Microsoft protocol that the Android WiFi adapter can not detect?Is there some other Android software or app that can connect the Windows WiFi ICS?

Aug 7, 2011I have a PC running Windows XP, which is connected to the internet using a wired cable modem. I then have a laptop, which I want to use to access the internet, but no wireless router.
Then I realized that my G1 (running Froyo) has WiFi, and I have the USB cable for it. So, is there any way of setting up my G1 to use the connection from the desktop PC via USB, and then broadcast it as a WiFi network? This is only intended to be a temporary solution (a few days) so I'm not going to go out and buy a wireless router or anything.

With winmo when an app need to access the internet it would automatically connect and then after a certain amount of time idle it would disconnect. I have not been able to do this with android.
