Long time reader, first time poster here. How does one know if the Epic is using the wifi connection as opposed to using the 3G connection? When wifi is connected both that and the 3G connection shows at the top. So which one is in control per se? And how can it be verified?

If my screen locks while I have a wifi connection, then the connection is lost when I unlock the phone.First, is this perhaps deliberate, to save power? Also, either way, when I unlock the screen and go into wifi settings, I see that the phone is trying to make a wifi connection, but it never succeeds, even though it's my home network and I'm in the same room as the router. It just states 'Obtaining address.

I double checked all setting, disabled anything that could interfere, soft and hard reset the phone, can't figure it out. Sprint is closed till 7. Any ideas from anyone that might still be up?
I've got the Windows 7 64bit professional and when I plug it into the usb it says "installing device software..." and than "Device not recognized..." I want to put photos and music on my epic!

If so, then list your car brand and model. How did you do it? Are the songs all MP3? from Itunes? Are the songs in any particular folder on the microSD card?
Me: 2010 Prius NAVI...the car audio can only read 3 songs out of many (all from Itunes). I do have 2 songs from Amazon MP3, but they are not read either. The same 3 songs over and over again. My phone is in "mass storage" mode.
This has been driving me nuts since I got the phone. It would almost connect to my machine then just bog down and fail. Someone mentioned using a better USB cable and I tried it out of desperation. It WORKS! Apparently the USB cable that ships with the Epic 4G is kinda crappy. I plugged in the brand new cable and it just plain worked.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a galaxy s (I9000) I connect to my home wireless gateway through the phone, enter the WPA key and it connects all fine. But then when I try to browse any webistes I get a 404 error and if I try syncing facebook or anything else I get an error saying the server could not be contacted. wireless works fine on my mum's laptop and the phone is showing up in the devices list of my router's interface.

View 25 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have any idea as to whether Froyo will address the wifi issues on the SGS?My wife's phone will not connect to any wifi hotspot unless she is virtually sitting on the router.At home it is ok as the router is in the same room, but she has tried to connect to many wifi hotspots in public places and she can never connect as the signal is so weak.Other people with iPhones, HTC etc connect with no problem, but hers will not do anything.Is this something that Froyo will address, or is it more a hardware issue with the SGS?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the same issue with 2 separate Vibrants, actually 3 Vibrants counting the one I took back.I have problems connecting to either the market or internet across multiple browsers while WiFi is on.With both phones, it seems this problem is intermittent and across different brands of routers at different locations.
An example is when I try to enter the market.I sometimes will get to the market home page but when I try to pull up my downloads it comes back with an error message saying connection failed.Once I turn off WiFi it works perfect in 3G, or if I leave WiFi on, go back to the home page and then try just a minute later it connects without a problem.To make matters even worse, the problem persists while using apps that connect to the internet such as The Weather Channel.The problem is very intermittent.Sometimes I have no problems connecting, while other times it won't connect at all until I turn WiFi off or even reboot the phone.Both phones behave the same way.I've gotten to the point now where I just leave WiFi turned off because it's so unreliable.I know it's not the WiFi signal strength either as it is just as likely to happen with the phone a few feet away from the router's antenna as it is when it's 50 feet away.
So recently I have started to have a problem with my Wi-Fi Connection on my Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4G , So I would be on the Wi-Fi fine then each time i click on a video it asks for "Complete action using" then my Wi-Fi instantly stops and the Wi-Fi icon isn't there anymore . After i clicked one of the option on complete action using, couple seconds later my internet comes back.
So problem is that each time i try to watch a video my Wi-Fi Stops when on Web. But then I can watch videos through the Youtube application.
Also Another weird thing is that after the Wi-Fi reconnects My "Use packet data" setting is auto enabled again.
My WiFi drops connection all the time which seems to be a common problem for many Hero users. I've found the 'Wifi Fixer' application helps a little bit. You can download it for free from Market. It tries to reconnect your WiFi in the background everytime it drops.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a verizon fios wireless router, model MI424WR, and i am having trouble maintaining a wireless connection with my eris. i have no problem with the initial connection, but after a few minutes the connection no longer works. my eris still shows that it is connected to my wireless network, but if i attempt to open a webpage, use twitter, etc it says that there is no connection. i changed my eris settings to never let the wireless sleep, but it has not seemed to work. any ideas on how to fix this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a PC running Windows XP, which is connected to the internet using a wired cable modem. I then have a laptop, which I want to use to access the internet, but no wireless router.
Then I realized that my G1 (running Froyo) has WiFi, and I have the USB cable for it. So, is there any way of setting up my G1 to use the connection from the desktop PC via USB, and then broadcast it as a WiFi network? This is only intended to be a temporary solution (a few days) so I'm not going to go out and buy a wireless router or anything.
My wifi will turn on, but will scan for or connect to networks. Anyone had this issue and know how to resolve it?

By default the wi-fi setting is set to go to sleep (and use cellular data instead) when the screen is off, which will most likely happen while you are streaming music as well as other things. To change it so the wi-fi never turns off, to into the phone's menu -> wireless and network -> wi-fi settings -> tap the menu button and select advanced which has an option for wi-fi sleep policy that had been defaulted to sleep "when screen turns off". There you have the option to change it to "never" or "never when plugged in".
I have a Google Nexus 4 with Android 4.2.2.I've just tried a speed test on it using the Android app (speedtest.net) and it says over wifi I'm getting about 1mps down/upload. I've also tried it on my laptop using the same wifi connection but through the browser using thier website Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and it says im getting about 15 mps down and almost 1 upload.
when I go into Chrome and search for speedtest it goes to the play store with thier app, any way I can access thier site on my phone browser? the desktop site doesn't seem to work?

Now lets say on of this threads is downloading a large file, but then the user of my application is switching to another activity/screen. Therefor the file is needless and I'd like to abort this download connection.
In ThreadSafeClientConnManager I found this method: public ClientConnectionRequest requestConnection (HttpRoute route, Object state) Returns a new ClientConnectionRequest, from which a ManagedClientConnection can be obtained or the request can be aborted.
So far I've been using:

Now from what I understand, I've to use:

And that's the point where I'm stuck. I assume that for the route I can just use new HttpRoute(new HttpHost("10.0.0.1")) or whatever my server is, but what to put in for Object state?
And second, as soon as I've the ClientConnectionManager I can call getConnection(long timeout, TimeUnit tunit). But then from there, how I do I execute my HttpGet httpRequest = new HttpGet(URL_TO_FILE); as I did before with HttpResponse response = (HttpResponse) httpclient.execute(httpRequest);?

How do I detect there is no internet connection?
How do I popup a same dialog in my application?
I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
I'm coding a very basic FTP client on top of my application and I have 2 activities. The first one is the file explorer and the second one is the image viewer. Once I click on the image filename on the explorer, I want to pass the connection to the other activity to handle extra stuff. Basically, I want to keep the same org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient object (which handles the connection) alive in-between the 2 activities. I know I can't pass an object inside an intent so I don't know what my best bets are.

I am tired of my phone loosing connection when I try and use pdanet or trying to transfer files. I get almost all the way with the file then I loose usb connection. My wifes phone does not have this problem for the most part. Only when pdanet. What can be done? I have tried many different drivers and still same issue with my phone.
