What happens when YOU menu>settings>softwareupdate>checkforupdate? MY phone says unable to connect to ATT Server. I just got this phone a week ago and am worried that when 2.2 DOES become available I wont be able to download it.

So before the update yesterday, I loved my Captivate. GPS worked great as did the rest of the phone. I figured since getting the update message, I would go for it. During the update the service was pretty bad in the office so I canceled the download to continue it when I got home. When I went to continue, it automatically rebooted my phone and applied the partially downloaded FW and completely bricked the phone.
Since last night, I have exchanged my Captivate twice. Each time the phones have major issues. Forget about locking onto satellites, it can't even get any in view in the middle of the street. On my current phone, forget not being able to connect to AT&T servers for the update, I can't even connect to Android Market...
I spoke with AT&T and the CS Rep made a special note on my account that told the store to not let me leave until I have a phone that has functional GPS, updates and fixes whatever issues I have. Additionally I was offered a credit to my account for the inconvenience. Add to that the CS Rep made a note to call me on my 30th day to make sure everything is working and if not, we will see where we go from there (cancel, extend the return period...).
Now I'm not sure what to do. I will try one more exchange but if that doesn't work, I'm considering going back to my dumbphone for now... I doubt I will get an iPhone4 and after 4 Captivates, don't think I will keep exchanging.
Sorry to vent my frustrations but this has been an aggravating couple days - even more so that my bricked phone worked great in all aspects.
I am trying to connect to my home wifi, its WEP security on a linksys router, but every time i try to connect it says unable to connect, also idk if there is supposed to be a wifi icon on the top bar but it does not show one at all, appreciate any feedback

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I decided to install the tweaked V3 W/Take 5. Started to update rom and couldn't get phone to connect. It would say debugging was working but nothing in ADB > Devices. Long story short A few hours of fiddling Took out SD card and it started working. Formatted the card Flashed rom. Worked a few times and now nothing. Every now and then when i reboot the phone it will work. It only works for 20 minutes or so and then stops. I get the USB Connected Prompt and when I press it (waiting for the Mount window) It goes back to nothing.ectly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got my Samsung Captivate and it works pretty well (even the GPS) however, when I try to update is (manually) it takes forever trying to connect to the server and in the end it never does (and thus I cannot connect for another twenty-four hours).So I said ok, i'll use Kies to update the phone, so I download Kies and try - however, the when I connect Kies says "The Device is not supported by Kies" and as such I cannot interact with my phone in this manner.

So every so often I go into Settings and then go to Software Update, click "Check for Update", click OK and for the past couple weeks it has ALWAYS told me that it failed to connect to AT&T's servers. If I try and check again it tells me that 24 hours has not elapsed since I made my last request. (Even though that request failed).
I've tried it in Airplane mode with Wi-Fi enabled and I've tried it in normal mode but using Wi-Fi and in 3G mode (not connected to any Wi-Fi network).
The day I got my phone I was able to retrieve an update (so it used to work) and I have not rooted my phone or "mucked with it" in any fashion.
It seems that since the last update I cannot connect my captivate as mass storage to my macbook. Even with the Debugging on. I mount the usb.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got a Captivate and upgraded to the leaked 2.2 update.Since I updated, gameloft apps(specifically Asphalt 5 HD) will no longer show up in the market.I have tried going to gameloft directly and even directly to the download page but it states that there is no such app.Again, I could find all gameloft apps before my update.I've also had other apps show up and when I click, the download page can't be found.is this because the apps are not compatible with 2.2?

However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.

1)select mass storage
2)scroll the top menu down and select mount USB
3)press mount
Recovery error message pops up form bit locker. Is it possible to still view my files? as I do not have the recovery key.

Last night I was loading some stuff on my phone and the USB was acting up and now today when I plug it in it acts like I am plugging in to power. I installed usb switcher from the market and it tells me that I need to hook up to usb first. I reset the phone and it did not help, I have tried to to change the settings from mas storage to pc studio and turned on debugging.

The following message comes up on my phone regardless of which connection method I choose. "PC connection available only on idle screen. Close running applications". The only thing I have running that I know of is the "weather widget" which is part of beautiful widgets. Can I get a list of applications running on my phone somehow? Is there a way to turn the weather widget off? I am assumming that that is the problem. Anyone else out there have similar difficulties hooking up to Kiev or just your PC with the same kind of message?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried searching and didn't have any luck with results, so I apologize if it's been covered, but I'm having difficulties connecting my Captivate to my PC via USB to transfer pictures/data/music.I've had the phone for a few months now but this is the first time I've really attempted to connect, as my pictures are piling up and I'd like to back them up for safekeeping.I already had the drivers downloaded months ago when I first got the phone but when I connected it today, I got a message that Windows (Win 7, 64-bit) failed to recognize the device. I went out, using the link in the Captivate Guide here (which is where I got them initially), and redownloaded the drivers to ensure I had the appropriate/most current version. Installed them, made sure the phone was set to 'Mass Storage' in USB settings, and still fail to connect when I plug the USB cord in. Windows fails to recognize the phone as a device and errors out each time.I tried putting it into USB Debugging Mode, but still get the same thing. I tried 'Ask on connection', I tried Kies, etc and nothing will work.Am I missing a step here, or doing something wrong? This has been extremely frustrating.

The drivers are ok on the PC, it seems to be something with the Captivate.The screen says initializing and seems to cycle between the home screen and USB screen but doesn't establish a connection.

When I click on that, I get a Window's error message: "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. No connectivity at all on my Captivate. Wifi networks can't be saved, and the 3G symbol is up there, but there's nothing being transmitted or received. Should I do a factory reset? The phone part works, as does messaging, but nothing else.
