I am trying to connect to my home wifi, its WEP security on a linksys router, but every time i try to connect it says unable to connect, also idk if there is supposed to be a wifi icon on the top bar but it does not show one at all, appreciate any feedback

I have the Samsung captivate and it usually has no problems connecting to WiFi networks but it can't connect to my home network. It recognizes the network but I can't use send/receive any data. My two laptops have no problem connecting to my network but I can't get my phone to. Additionally, my Wii has the same problem. It recognizes the network but can't do anything. Its probably a router problem but their support was useless, so I thought I would try here.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know wi-fi has been mentioned but no one seems to really know. Is there anyone out there who knows why I cannot connect to my wi-fi at home? I have a mac address filter on my router and I put in the correct mac address of my Eris more than once as well and the security settings. I was able to connect my Nintendo DSi with no problem. So when I set up my wi-fi connection, it says it's not in range but remembered. At my job I was able to connect to the wi-fi with no problem. Could it be something with my router? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or clues.

Cant seem to get my wiimotes to connect to my new Cappy, i dl the free versions of the market place but none work. My BT does see them just wont connect via the program. any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo before the update yesterday, I loved my Captivate. GPS worked great as did the rest of the phone. I figured since getting the update message, I would go for it. During the update the service was pretty bad in the office so I canceled the download to continue it when I got home. When I went to continue, it automatically rebooted my phone and applied the partially downloaded FW and completely bricked the phone.
Since last night, I have exchanged my Captivate twice. Each time the phones have major issues. Forget about locking onto satellites, it can't even get any in view in the middle of the street. On my current phone, forget not being able to connect to AT&T servers for the update, I can't even connect to Android Market...
I spoke with AT&T and the CS Rep made a special note on my account that told the store to not let me leave until I have a phone that has functional GPS, updates and fixes whatever issues I have. Additionally I was offered a credit to my account for the inconvenience. Add to that the CS Rep made a note to call me on my 30th day to make sure everything is working and if not, we will see where we go from there (cancel, extend the return period...).
Now I'm not sure what to do. I will try one more exchange but if that doesn't work, I'm considering going back to my dumbphone for now... I doubt I will get an iPhone4 and after 4 Captivates, don't think I will keep exchanging.
Sorry to vent my frustrations but this has been an aggravating couple days - even more so that my bricked phone worked great in all aspects.
My wifi will turn on, but will scan for or connect to networks. Anyone had this issue and know how to resolve it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIt happened to me last night on the Captivate. I tried battery pulls, deleting the WiFi nets, etc., but it still kept turning WiFi off within a minute of turning it on. I did a factory reset (I'm getting better at this process. Can restore my device back to its former glory within an hour).

The phone didn't have any problems with this before the update.
Anyone had the same kind of problem, or anyone that has a smart fix for it?
phones worked good other then gps issue. recently after iv had the phone for 30 days it just stopped scanning for wifi access and wont turn on wifi at all.

I walked in the house with my Captivate and it can't obtain an IP address. The password is right. It gets to "Obtaining IP address" but then it says "Unsuccessful." I have never ever had a device issue connecting to my wifi. Numerous family/friend phones have connected without a glitch. Any ideas?

1) Wifi worked great for a while, but now it says unable to scan for networks and turns the wifi off...this wouldn't be too bad if I had a big data plan but I do not.
2) Battery Life...fml
3) I cannot find ANYWHERE any supporting software to sync media files with my PC
4) The drivers will not install on my computer
5) Way too many apps are using data without me even opening them (navigation, yahoo mail etc...) I have AdvAppKiller but that gets old
It is wonderful having such a wonderful, fast device with 16 gb of memory, but these shortcomings are making me realize why I enjoyed a flip phone for so long.
My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?

When I rebooted & got to the set up screen(set up google account ect.) the wifi worked! so I hit the toggle,& turned it off to make sure the 3G worked. I can't keep my wifi connected on my Droidx. Scanning connecting connected then a few seconds later the wifi icon disappears and it repeats the process seemingly forever. I've discovered that if I use the wps push button method to connect it was stay connected until the wifi goes to sleep when I tries to reconnect I get the scanning connecting connected loop. I've tried different settings in my router (wpa/wpa2 just wpa, just wpa2, tkip, aes) I refuse to go below wpa encryption. My current settings WPA2 AES. I'm running a Linksys WRT400N dual-band router latest firmware, 2.4ghz mode set to mixed b,g,n. Oddly enough, during the time it took my to write this it connected itself and it seems stable now (at least until I let it idle). Phone probably knew I was on here complaining about it but any help you can give me to obtain a wifi connection better without having to spend 15mins each time trying to get it to connect would be great.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm new to all this WiFi stuff. I have no problems connecting my Desire to my WiFi at home, which is great. But at work (or at least in the vicinity of my office) there is an open WiFi point. I have now tried on several occasions to connect to it, but it always fails. It gets as far as trying to get the IP address then nothing happens until the connection fails. Then it starts trying to connect again, but it gets stuck every time on getting the IP address.
This would not concern me if it weren't for the fact that other work colleagues (one of whom also has a Desire) have managed to connect without a problem. I've moved over to where those people work, in case it was a pure location thing, but still no success. Obviously I'd like not to have to use my data allowance while at work if at all possible.
