View 2 RepliesFor 3 weeks now I haven't been able to check for an update for my phone. Everytime I try, it says "Cannot connect to the AT&T server" and it won't let me try again for 24 hours at which point it tells me the same thing. Any advice?

I've set debugging to come on as I read somewhere that would enable the phone to connect to my mac but it's not working. The computer can see the phone when I plug it in as a disk drive though.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a samsung epic 4g, rooted with Kernel version 2.6.35.7-gefb31a4. I installed PDA net on my phone and on my macbook pro. I see the Icon on the top bar of my mac but there is always a red "X". I clicked debugging and everything the application told me to do on my phone and on my computer but every time I plug it in and press connect, my mac tell me there is no phone connected. I have done all the proper updates. my goal is not to have to always use my wifi tethering.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently got my Samsung Captivate and it works pretty well (even the GPS) however, when I try to update is (manually) it takes forever trying to connect to the server and in the end it never does (and thus I cannot connect for another twenty-four hours). So I said ok, i'll use Kies to update the phone, so I download Kies and try - however, the when I connect Kies says "The Device is not supported by Kies" and as such I cannot interact with my phone in this manner.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn theory there will come a day when Froyo or the GPS fix will be available from AT&T...
So every so often I go into Settings and then go to Software Update, click "Check for Update", click OK and for the past couple weeks it has ALWAYS told me that it failed to connect to AT&T's servers. If I try and check again it tells me that 24 hours has not elapsed since I made my last request. (Even though that request failed).
I've tried it in Airplane mode with Wi-Fi enabled and I've tried it in normal mode but using Wi-Fi and in 3G mode (not connected to any Wi-Fi network).
The day I got my phone I was able to retrieve an update (so it used to work) and I have not rooted my phone or "mucked with it" in any fashion.
What happens when YOU menu>settings>softwareupdate>checkforupdate? MY phone says unable to connect to ATT Server. I just got this phone a week ago and am worried that when 2.2 DOES become available I wont be able to download it.
View 20 Replies View RelatedSo before the update yesterday, I loved my Captivate. GPS worked great as did the rest of the phone. I figured since getting the update message, I would go for it. During the update the service was pretty bad in the office so I canceled the download to continue it when I got home. When I went to continue, it automatically rebooted my phone and applied the partially downloaded FW and completely bricked the phone.
Since last night, I have exchanged my Captivate twice. Each time the phones have major issues. Forget about locking onto satellites, it can't even get any in view in the middle of the street. On my current phone, forget not being able to connect to AT&T servers for the update, I can't even connect to Android Market...
I spoke with AT&T and the CS Rep made a special note on my account that told the store to not let me leave until I have a phone that has functional GPS, updates and fixes whatever issues I have. Additionally I was offered a credit to my account for the inconvenience. Add to that the CS Rep made a note to call me on my 30th day to make sure everything is working and if not, we will see where we go from there (cancel, extend the return period...).
Now I'm not sure what to do. I will try one more exchange but if that doesn't work, I'm considering going back to my dumbphone for now... I doubt I will get an iPhone4 and after 4 Captivates, don't think I will keep exchanging.
Sorry to vent my frustrations but this has been an aggravating couple days - even more so that my bricked phone worked great in all aspects.
I am going to be getting a Captivate this week but had a quick question for those more experienced Android users. I am still rocking my Blackberry 8310, and have really enjoyed how seamlessly I have been able to sync my contacts and calendar with my Macbook programs (ical and address book). I am curious if I will enjoy the same simplicity the Captivate, or rather the Android software its running, as I do with my Blackberry.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have connected the Captivate to my Windows 7 64 Bit PC. I have downloaded the updated drivers and installed them. I have tried all the different types of connection as mass storage etc... Nothing seems to work. I can see the phone in Device Manager and in the explorer it shows three removable disks; however, when I try to open them it tells me to insert disk.
Does anyone know how to connect this to my PC?
Every time I try to "Software Update" I get a message that says, "can't connect to AT&Ts server. I've tried it every day for the last two weeks and get the same message every time. Everything else works fine on the phone as far as downloads goes.

It would say debugging was working but nothing in ADB > Devices. Long story short A few hours of fiddling Took out SD card and it started working. Formatted the card Flashed rom. Worked a few times and now nothing. Every now and then when i reboot the phone it will work. It only works for 20 minutes or so and then stops. I get the USB Connected Prompt and when I press it (waiting for the Mount window) It goes back to nothing.ectly.

And my second question, my phone doesnt connect to my computer right. I plugged it in, it said it didnt have the right software or something, so i went and downloaded the the Vista 64 bit thing thats stickied on here. I plug it in, and the "you have the wrong software" thing was gone, but nothing else happpened. The screen says its connected and it vibrates and i hear the noise thru the computer, so what am i doing wrong. I read somewhere that you pull down the little bar at the top and hit dock or something like that. I cant do that. If i can pull it down theres no buttons to hit. Can someone walk me thru this process? FIXED
I can't seem to get my n1 to connect to my macbook with the usb cable. when i plug it in the phone charges but the sd card will not mount on the desktop nor does it show up in the finder. it was working fine until a week ago when i took the card out to transfer some photos. i was forced to reformat upon re-inserting into n1 and that's when the usb problems began. I've tried reformatting, rebooting, switching usb ports but nothing's worked yet.

View 13 Replies View RelatedSorry if this has been answered, but I haven't found any many solutions through Google or this forum. The OTA update for the Samsung Captivate (that was supposed to fix the GPS and a couple other bugs) isn't working on my [rooted] phone. I am able to download it, but it says that the process failed after my phone restarts. Luckily, it doesn't brick my phone like it has done to some other people's phones. From what I can gather, it doesn't fail because the phone is rooted but because some of the stock AT&T apps have been removed. Is this the problem? If so, is there any place I can download those stock apps (AT&T Navigator, Where, Mobile Banking, etc.) and reload them onto my phone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a used Captivate an hour ago. I was messing around with the setting and saw an update section. So I did that and it said it found one, it downloaded it, and said the phone would reboot in 5 sec. After that, I get nothing. I had like 80% battery via the meter. Any tips here for a new (and scared) android user?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my Captivate from AT&T and it has Firmware 2.1 update 1. First question is, Will I be notified on the Phone when an update is available? Second, I have my phone Rooted do I need to un root when Firmware update comes out and I upgrade? I'm trying to upload photos from the phone to my macbook. After uploading several pics to "my T-mobile album" and after emailing them to myself, I notice the pictures are pretty small, 480x360.. no where near what I expected from 5 megapixels (and yes, I have the option set at 5mp). What can I do to take larger sized pictures?
Possibly unrelated, I use the stock USB cable to plug in the phone. The phone will charge, but my Macbook does not recognize anything as being plugged in, so I cannot manually browse around to upload my photos. What gives?
i updated my phone today and the first txt message i sent went to the wrong contact. i checked the number and it was right. this had never happened before the update.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried searching and didn't have any luck with results, so I apologize if it's been covered, but I'm having difficulties connecting my Captivate to my PC via USB to transfer pictures/data/music.I've had the phone for a few months now but this is the first time I've really attempted to connect, as my pictures are piling up and I'd like to back them up for safekeeping.I already had the drivers downloaded months ago when I first got the phone but when I connected it today, I got a message that Windows (Win 7, 64-bit) failed to recognize the device. I went out, using the link in the Captivate Guide here (which is where I got them initially), and redownloaded the drivers to ensure I had the appropriate/most current version. Installed them, made sure the phone was set to 'Mass Storage' in USB settings, and still fail to connect when I plug the USB cord in. Windows fails to recognize the phone as a device and errors out each time.I tried putting it into USB Debugging Mode, but still get the same thing. I tried 'Ask on connection', I tried Kies, etc and nothing will work.Am I missing a step here, or doing something wrong? This has been extremely frustrating.
