If I install hydra kernel does it remove all my apps and stuff or does it just update the kernel? Would love to have an undervolted, overclocked kernel.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've tried ShadowRom and CM6 and love both but it's far too buggy for me right now. On SR I would have 5-6 reboots a day which I can't bear. With CM6 it's down to 1-2 reboots a day but sometimes my phone will completely cut off and not reboot at all and I won't know that it's off until I go to wake it up. I also have had voicemails and missed calls that I haven't been notified of and the missed calls won't even show up in the call log later. I only know they are missed when friends tell me they called me three times in a row with no answer. Lastly the battery life is killing me on CM6. I've never drained my 2150 battery before and everybody for the past week I've had CM6 the battery had died with display as the main cause. So I've finally decided I just need to go back to Stock 2.2 and install LauncherPro. So my question is, I know how to remove some of the crapware but what other things can I remove that are Sense related from the stock rom that won't compromise the phone in any way but that will make it run faster and smoother? Is there a tutorial for this somewhere?

I just recently got an optimus G e970. I downloaded CM10.2.zip and gapps.zip for the rom.I used "adb push CM10.2.zip /sdcard/" to move the files files to my sdcard and i sucessfully installed cyanagenmod BUT i can't delete the .zip files left behind.
When i go to recovery mode, i see the files in my sdcard but there are not options to remove it. I connected the phone to my PC and i can't see CM10.2.zip and gapps.zip file in my sdcard. I tried installign root explorer and esfile explorer and enabled hidden files but i can't find this file in my sdcard (internal storage) or sdcard1 (physical sdcard). However, i can still see them in recovery mode, BUT again there is not option to remove the .zip files in recovery mode.!
Issue with a custom ROM I've been playing around with in an attempt at customizing it to meet my personal needs.
Basically, the custom ROM installation removes old, unwanted .apk's from the stock image it is replacing. This is done by a script/command in the META-INF->com->google->android->updater-script file. Here's an excerpt as an example:

However, while the script works perfectly to remove the actual apk's/apps from the device, once the custom ROM is loaded, the old shortcuts (to some of the apps that were uninstalled) remain on the homescreen (these shortcuts are placed there by default by the stock ROM). If you try to tap the shortcut, it simply states something to the effect of "this application is not installed on your device". While these "dead" shortcuts can be moved to the trash bin and deleted from the homescreen, it'd be nice if I could make it so the custom ROM installation automatically does this.
I've tried modifying the Launcher2.apk to reflect the changes I am looking for; but to no avail. In the Launcher2 /res/xml/default_workspace.xml file, I am easily able to specify which apps I do want shortcuts placed on the homescreen for during the installation. But - there doesn't seem to be a way for me to issue a command to remove the old, unwanted shortcuts and these "dead" shortcuts are present nonetheless, despite whatever changes I make to the default_workspace.xml (it does add my "new" shortcuts, though).
Any way that this could be done during the actual custom ROM installation process? And where would I add it to (default_workspace.xml, Android Manifest.xml, framework-res.apk, boot.img...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm interested in purchasing a Nexus 4 I have no cellphone plan, nor do I want one; instead I intend to use the phone as a tablet or PDA.
I would like to hear some feedback on how feasible it is to low-level remove the cell and gps antennas' capabilities. Is there a driver or kernel module of some sort that could be removed to 'neuter' the phone? Can the hardware run the antennas without the ROM or kernel's consent?
I've already read about the code to reach a developer menu and 'disable radio' as well as 'airplane mode'. Neither of these fit the bill, I want the phone to be incapable of transmitting cell/gps information.
Now I'm using rage kernel 3.0 (GB). The the problem is everytime I install newer version Bysybox and reboot my phone it will revert to version 1.19.3-cm71 with. So, My Backup, Lucky Patcher, etc. doesn't work properly. Since I can't find many GB kernel, can I remove/disable kernel's autoroot?

So I want to upgrade my Droid from the older 2.0.1 build of Pete's Bugless Beast ROM (1.2) to the newer ESE53 based 0.8 version. What I want to know is how to keep all of my data and apps and stuff when I make the upgrade, because according to his instructions you have to use his nandroid backup to go from the older 1.2 BB to the new 0.8 BB. I tried following his instructions once before, and while I was able to successfully upgrade to the newer ROM, I lost all of my apps and data and ended up just restoring from one of my own nandroid backups back to 1.2.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI wiped my phone and flashed the latest cm nightly for my N1. I started reinstalling some apps that I had already paid for. Some worked, but other paid apps did not install. I received the 'installation unsuccessful' error message after the app was downloaded from the market. Swiftkey, ProcessManager Full, 360 Live, Rom manager premium, and iSyncr all failed to install properly. I have tried clearing the market cache and rebooting but the error persists. Not really sure what to do anymore. Has anyone gotten around this problem?

Must the phone be plugged into the computer? If so must it be windows?
Must usb debugging be on as well as allow unknown sources?
I download busy box and can get to the screen where I select backup apps and data but have no idea where the backup of this is stored...where? I hit the backup apps and data button and run but instantly I go back to the home screen. Is my stuff backed up? Please Help! THanks so much!

no interest in restoring them, i want to make myself a stripped down speed-deamon version of my current rom (SR3.3.1) which i love. If i need any of the stuff back ill just flash a new rom.
I connect to my works Exchange server using EAS (I think, it was the default) and it syncs with my mail automagically as stuff comes in. I'd really like to find a way to automatically delete stuff on the Hero as I delete stuff on the exchange server. Is there a way to do this without involving another program?

View 25 Replies View RelatedBefore I rooted I would go through my sd card and delete files that were no longer needed such as application files from applications that I would download and later delete. Now that I'm rooted I am a little hesitant to do that because I'm not sure if there are files on there that are necessary for root.
For example: the SU file on the SD Card. Is that the program itself or is it just the install file. If I were to delete it would I lose the superuser or would it not effect it? I just got a 16 gig sd card so I am wondering what files I need to transfer over if there are any.
I DL'ed and ran the unprovoked program. It did its thing and said done. it rebooted and looks exactly like it did before....questions:
1) how do I know if it is rooted and ready to go?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI feel really dumb just asking this, but I don't want to wipe anything and I don't want a separate radio install. I'd like to get root, do s-off, and do one ROM flash or whatever that updates me to 2.2 and let's me get on with my life.
Someone linked to a ROM that said it was based on the real ota 2.2, but that doesn't make sense to me if you have to update your radio first and wipe your phone, when the ota doesn't require that.
Should I just try to flash without backing up stuff and wiping and hope for the best? I think I have a phobia of some sort here involving stuff with more than 3 or 4 steps.
So over the past few days the apps ive tried to download dont even start to download, I then turn my phone off and back on again and they start to download, then start to install, but just as i think its done i get a notification saying ''Installation unsuccessful''.
I have 14MB of phone memory left so ive constantly got the low on space icon in the notification bar but i have ample space for the certain apps i wish to download. Have i without realising fiddled with a certain setting or something?
So what is going on after the last update? My phone randomly freaks out at times and starts switching screens and stuff on it's own. Seems like it is possessed. Never did this before the update...and a friend of mine is having the same problem with their Incredible. Also at times I try to go back to the home screen and the screen goes completely black for a bit....then will eventually go to it. When it freaks out the only thing I can do is restart it and then it will work fine until the next time it freaks out.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot my DInc yesterday, ordered in store 5/14, shipped 5/28, arrived 6/1 (thank you, holiday weekend.) Charged it to 100% and started exploring. Went to bed last night with the battery around 40%, left it ON intentionally to run down, was at 14% when I got up, now down to 5%. Will let it die then charge while turned off. Overall I am impressed. Love the feel of the phone (except the plastic back doesn't seem to be very durable.) It's VERY fast (I came from a Razr2 V9m) and the apps are great. Went crazy trying to set up Yahoo! Mail until I realized I needed to TURN OFF WIFI so it would authenticate. Soon as I did that, I was good to go. Used a few Twitter apps, love Hootsuite (I use that on the web) but it's unstable, so I'm using Twitter for Android and am happy with that. Have not used Friendstream yet. Created a Google Account just for my contacts, cleaned them up and had them ready when I activated the phone, everything came in clean. Call quality is excellent even with 1-2 bars, speaker sounds great. Controls are well placed. Overall it's clearly the best phone I've ever owned. Still have a lot to learn. Wish I'd had it over the weekend, I'd be a pro by now. :/
Boxwave screen protector: great item (got the non-glare one). Didn't know I needed a Clean Room to install it. Literally went from the factory plastic to the Boxwave and still managed to get dust underneath. Removed & cleaned it per the instructions, reinstalled, and now have EVEN MORE dust bubbles. I'll try again. The protector itself is awesome, love the matte finish it gives the phone, no fingerprints. Just a royal PITA to install (I guess they all are.) Using the black rubberish VZW combo holster/case. The holster is okay but as others have reported the phone doesn't snap in very securely. Anyone with an active lifestyle had better keep it vertical or it's probably gonna slide out. The case has a really nice feel and offers some but not complete protection (exposed top & bottom edges), but it's fine for me for now. Pretty sure I'm going to get a Seido Innocase and see how it fits with the VZW holster, or, just bite the damn bullet and get the Seido holster as well. That is, unless Accessory One gets their act together and eventually sends me the CORRECT leather pouch I ordered. :/ At that point, I might have to go commando (just a screen protector) but we'll see. I do like how the VZW case makes it so the camera lens isn't touching anything when you lay the phone on its back. Decisions, decisions....................
Is there a way to remove apps from My Android Apps list, on Android Market / Google Play? I have a few hundred in my list and a few dozen of those are apps I plan to never install again. I'd like to remove them from my list in the Market/Play. I've already uninstalled them from my phone.
