Oct 5, 2010Do we have any info on what the update is? I was thinking about rooting this week (I have 2.2) but don't want to update if it will get in the way of the XDA root method thingy

View 2 RepliesI am an Android app developer, and I have purchased a Nexus One device which I use to continuously test my developed Android applications.
Background: ----------------- One of the applications I developed uses a native shared library (e.g. myNativeLib.so). Only my application loads & uses this native library. I had developed this app before Android NDK came out. I pack my native library into my apk's 'assets' folder, and during my application start- up, I extract this native library from my package's assets folder to my app private directory (i.e. <assets> -> /data/data/<myappprocess>/ myNativeLib.so). Then I use System.load() API in my application to dynamically load this native library.
Problem: ------------ This application was developed during Android 1.5 (i.e. cupcake) days {I didn't have the Nexus One then}. The above procedure has been working without any problems right from Android 1.5 to Android 2.2 (i.e. Froyo). I have also tested the same on my Nexus One for Android 2.1 (i.e. Eclair) and Android 2.2.
The problem began the moment I recently upgraded my Nexus One to Android 2.2.1 via the FRG83 system update. Now, whenever I try to load my native library, I get the following error:
D/dalvikvm( 3653): Trying to load lib /data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so <some address> I/dalvikvm( 3653): Unable to dlopen(/data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so): Cannot load library: link_image[1995]: failed to link <mynativelib>.so
What I have Tried: -------------------------- 1. I tried my application using Android 2.2 SDK (emulator)...it works, no issues. 2. I checked out the latest froyo & android2.2.1 source code from Android open-source, built & tested my application + native lib using the latest froyo source...it built & ran, no issues. This should've taken care of any changes in the native code dependencies between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 3. I even checked Android 2.2.1 source code for dalvik (java System & Runtime classes) + bionic (linker & dlopen sources) between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 (using source checked out from Android open-source), but couldn't find anything consequential 4. I am unable to return my Nexus One to Android 2.2.
I've read many threads about the following message that I am getting when checking for system updates:"Check for update is not available at this time. Try Again later."
I've never seen a definitive cause nor cure. Anything definitive about this or is this just one of those deals that sometimes comes and goes? I have seen it before, but it's never stuck around for so long on any device I've owned.
I just checked the system updates for giggles but it is saying that check for update was not available at this time. Try again later.Anyone else seeing this? I am just worried that it might be because I am rooted.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just posted this in the regular android discuss group but I do believe that developers should read this as well. This directly affects you as well. This first began with my personal experience, I have an HTC Magic and I'm at version 1.5 a friend of mine has a g1 while another just got a Milestone. The issue is one friend can't understand why one phone can see this app and another can't or why one phone can do one thing that another can't, Their both running android whats the problem (ex. The Milestone has maps 3.3.1 the G1 has old Maps 3.1). I'm getting tired of explaining that even though they are both androids one is more up to date then the other and there really is no way to update. Even "IF" you rooted the phone you have to deal with bugs and ports its ridiculous. Now I love Android and I want to see Android KILL iPhone and eventually Symbian and I DO know that this is not necessarily Google's problem but it is indeed a problem that affects Google and it's users wanting to get the full Google Experience. I recently read a PC World article stupidly titled Android doomed to self destruct which I do not believe and its at this link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/189969/google_android_is_doomed_to_sel... but I realized that I am not the only person that sees this. Today there is an article on Slashdot as well as 2 on infoworld. We need to fix this at least some kind of update system that does not rely on manufacturers or at least forces them to act. Devices are releasing today with android 1.6 and if I research I'll probably find a few releasing 1.5. HTC is still pumping out Magic's with this old firmware, it's just getting very messy all across the board. Is there any suggestion as to what can be done at least on paper, any ideas?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo today, my phone was preparing the network for a system update. I already have 4.4, so I cancelled it. I checked for Firmware updates, nothing. A bug? It's a GS4.

Under the System Updates menu that's an option to Update Profile. What is that used for?
View 2 Replies View RelatedUnder the system options then about phone, It appears the option for system updates are missing. If this phone was to be scheduled in the fall when HTC does Froyo, How would one go about getting it if you miss an OTA option or what not. Would it be a download instead? Another thing this phone is absolutely the best phone that I have had. I have tried the backflip, droid Eris and Moto Droid and this one in my option is the best!
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Incredible is rooted. For the past few days I've received a notification that a system update will be installed and the phone will reboot. Nothing happens, no reboot and no evident change. Now that the phone is rooted do I need to apply updates manually? Should I take the Verizon updates at all? (The only specific change mentioned in (more info" for this update is the addition of an app called "Slacker").
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs this the update the froyo? Because I just updated to 2.1 couple weeks ago what is this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a weird problem with my Nexus 1. I rooted it when I got it (some months ago), so I don't really remember all the details about how I did it, was probably some cyanogen mod thing. However back then I remember having a small issue with the "system update available" message that displays in the notification bar, when an update is available. The problem was that the message kept appearing even though the 2.2 update was successfully installed. The problem seemed to disappear at some point, but now it is back, and worse. I cannot turn on or wake up my phone without getting the annoying message in my face.
I did try to follow the instructions in the message and actually install the update and reboot (even though the phone is running 2.2), however it didn't help. So right now I am pressing the "install later" option every time I want to use the phone. Also, I found out that I can root the phone with the program Universal Androot, so I guess the solution would be to somehow unroot using the old method (that I have forgotten) and then just use the Universal Androot program whenever I want to do something that requires root. Now the reason I write all this is that I am a bit scared of bricking the thing (even though i hear it should be next to impossible).

Just got the moment from Sprint.According to the phone, it's still on version 1.5Is there a way to update it to 2.1? Would like to get some apps, (Launcher Pro, Epocrates, etc.). When I do a search on the android marketplace, it doesn't show up.I assume its because of the older OS.Help please!Didn't know I was getting such an old phone?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried downloading and installing froyo OTA tonight and it rebooted and a status bar showed up. After about a third of the way into it an "!" icon appeared and the phone instantly rebooted. Upon reboot i got a message saying System update failed!I'm running 2.1 rooted - but all bloatware etc i've kept. Also running LP. Do i need to unroot before updating? I haven't read anything that says I need to.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI plan to return to 2.1? on my Droid and was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get rid of the constant System-Update reminders?
Sluggishness, quirks, disappearing alarms (and being late for work), and now the Certificate problem so I can no longer use Touchdown with the company Server........ have me missing the last version something fierce.
The rules of this forum restrict me from fully conveying my hatred for the recent OTA update to my original Droid. I am fully stock, un-rooted.
Just got a 76.9MB system update notification, what would you like me to do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted Desire with 2.1 OS and I want to update to 2.2 but when I check in About section for a software update first System Update Available is 1.21.405.2 . Ok until now. I supose the first thing is to do this update and after reboot when I'll check to new System Software Update a 2.2 will appear.
After I download 1.21.405.2 via Wifi phone starts backup process and then reboots in a black screen with green SYNC icon and a loading bar stop loading after a few seconds an another black screen with a BIG RED question mark appears and then phone reboots as usual but with no update Why can't update in order to pass next step: 2.2 OS update ?
I can read settings like this, for example: final String mytest = System.getString(this.getContentResolver(), System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON); but can't seem to write to settings using putString, no matter what I've tried. Maybe it is the scope of this.getContentResolver()??? I'm a newbie, so who knows, maybe it can't be done, or it's just syntax? Currently the code is in the onCreate of an Activity class.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUpdate: Power charger had to be removed to allow update to complete.
I bought a HTC One X today and downloaded the system update. It has been in the update screen for like 40 minutes (with the green refresh icon above the phone on a black background). What's going on? Should I be worried? I've tried holding down the power button which turns it off but when I turn it back on it just goes to the system update screen again.
I have made a little application pushed in /system/app with adb qui connect to a server and sometime download apk for updating/installing apk on the device.
My application is a kind of "updater". I alreay can : install new apk
But I can't update an apk which is already installed in /system/app/
I don't know why, but the update is in /data/app/my-update-1.apk
The application use the new version but, if i reboot the device (a Tao3530 tsunami board), the apk in /data/app/ is deleted and the old /system/app/original.apk version used.
How could i update an /system/app apk ? (without using ADb of course). If i need to use SU command (to push from download folder to /system/app, how could i root the board ?*
My current custom ROM includes Youtube v4.0.5. Market shows "installed" and latest avaliabvle is v4.1.23. An update isn't offered. Next I convert it into user app in TiBu. I go to the Youtube entry in market again, re-install and presto I have the shiny new Youtube. I assume the reason an update wasnt offered initially was because the app was a system app. So this makes me wonder if there's any automated solution that scans through systems apps and checks if an updated version is avaliable? I'm aware of the risks involved and I keep backups.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just discovered this feature called "Integrate system app updates into ROM" in the TitaniumBackup application and i am starting to use it in order to free some space of the internal memory of the phone. Everything's ok for now.
I was just wondering ... if, after doing such process, i can still do OTA updates (i have a sony xperia mini pro sj17i device)?
I have an unrooted Evo and I'm really low on internal space and don't want to root...if I could delete the system update files like "com.htc 2.1-update 1" and "Android System 2.1-update1", that would help to free up about 23mb of space...can I uninstall them or would that revert the system to the pre-updated state?
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my Hero won't perform any System Updates. When I click on any of the top 3 update options (Firmware, Profile, or PRL) the option turns green while my finger is on it but doesn't respond. This happened in the weeks before the 2.1 update also, but I just stuck it out, and after the 2.1 update it worked again - until recently. Now no updates can be requested. No root. Any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust went to HTC Software Update and found this available. Anyone know what's in it? Hit Menu, then Settings, then About Phone, then System Updates, then HTC Software Update, and finally hit Check Now.
View 49 Replies View Relatedalright, just installed 2.2, but my incredible has rebooted 5 times already after the initial install. it's currently rebooting, showing the lock screen, then when i pull it down i get the white htc screen with the pop up and some sort of % (i imagine some sort of setup process) it's already told me the first time "congratulations, you've been updated to build x.x.x.xxx" it also tells me "sorry! process System is not responding" now that just sounds like crap. it just rebooted the 6th time... note that i installed 2.2 manually.
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk I'm not overly techy on this Android stuff but I've just done a system software update to software number 2.09.405.8 and after the update the HTC_IME mod keyboard was constantly going into force close so I unchecked to use the standard keyboard than checked to use the HTC_IME mod again and its having no effect just using the standard keyboard now don't seem to be able to get HTC_IME mod back.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI guess I'm one of the few that had glitches w/ the update. First the galery link on the front page didn't update and I kept getting "this application is not installed" error. I couldn't drag it over to the red waste basket...it kept changing back to gray and the faulty icon stayed on the main desktop. That evening while on hold to Verizon I "force fed" it by holding it over the waste basket longer, then added the new gallery app from the slider screen.
Also noted that the gold button on the r side no longer worked for the camera, it brings up a quick messaging screen instead. They determined the ONLY way to fix this is to reset the phone back to factory issue. Is there another way around this? Or if I have to, what's the best way to back up everything and keep track of the installed apps? I really don't want to reset the phone.
Got the notice to update my system last night. At first it would not download at all. And then when it stated, it's been grinding away for over 10 hours! Anyone else experiencing extremely long update times?
