View 10 RepliesHow do I get an update on a program i have installed? I only find updated if I am in the Market and see that it says an update available.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason my Hero won't perform any System Updates. When I click on any of the top 3 update options (Firmware, Profile, or PRL) the option turns green while my finger is on it but doesn't respond. This happened in the weeks before the 2.1 update also, but I just stuck it out, and after the 2.1 update it worked again - until recently. Now no updates can be requested. No root. Any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust went to HTC Software Update and found this available. Anyone know what's in it? Hit Menu, then Settings, then About Phone, then System Updates, then HTC Software Update, and finally hit Check Now.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was sitting at my desk and work and saw the "System Update" notification pop up on my phone. I grabbed my phone, stood up, and showed my coworker. Unfortunately, in doing so I accidentally pressed "Update Now." I had planned to post-pone the update until I got home so I could Unrevoked Forever and S-Off. It's currently in the middle of installing (little ! icon w/ the Android guy next to it). I guess I'm going to lose my root. Any idea how long I'll have to wait to gain it back?
View 30 Replies View RelatedHow to update this damn thing once it's rooted so I can stop getting notifications every three minutes that there's a system update? I'm about to throw this thing against the wall and start using two tin cans held together by a string.

Once I've installed an .apk file, can I delete that .apk file off my SD card? Will it still function properly?
I just bought my first phone ever, so far I'm not overly impressed, it's about as stable as win98. The built in gmail is crap...if I send mail from gmail webpage I have no. problem, but if I send it from the phone I get errors or the mail floats off into space, who knows where it goes. Is there a way to un-install all this junk, there are at least 10-15 applications on this phone I have absolutely no use for and just eat up battery and ram? Update, was reading some other forums and I guess you can't really, or you have to hack the crap out of your phone...to bad I guess, they should make an Android lite version, I don't need Facebook, Twitter, nfl, stocks, nascar, or another half a dozen apps that came with the phone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow many apps do you have installed on your phone? Are you using a custom ROM, if so which one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to remove pre-installed programs?
For example, the following programs were pre-installed:
Amazon MP3
Footprints
Teeter
And maybe some others.
I've just tried:
Settings | Applications | Manage Apps
And noticed there's not always an option to Uninstall on these and some others.
Is it possible to remove, delete, uninstall, or get them off the device?
Is there any way to remove the pre-installed Sprint programs?
Sprint TV
Sprint-Nextel
NFL
Nascar
Are there some "core apps" or "core programs" that can't be removed?
A brief search on this matter on related threads seems to indicate only on "rooted" phones.
Under the System Updates menu that's an option to Update Profile. What is that used for?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm rooted running CM6, have been for awhile. I was just recently installing last.fm and I guess I pressed something that caused my phone to slow way down, pretty much froze up, so I rebooted it. It booted all the way up and then rebooted itself again and now it won't go passed the white htc screen.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am not tech savy at all and I just pulled this off! I rooted and installed Fresh 2.3.3. I've read that you need to change the "kernel" but dont how to do this. I found this thread [KERNEL][7/22/10]Darchstar's Overclocked Undervolted kernel for senseUI roms vUV 2 - xda-developers but its not making sense either. Also read about SetCPU to increase speed. Can someone please post up links and explanations?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have used Uninstaller to try to remove an app on my rooted Hero.
It certainly seems like it is removed. But, when I go to the Market to try to reinstall it, it as listed as "installed" in the Downloads section. When I click on it, both the "Open" and "Uninstall" buttons are grayed out. So, I can't even reinstall it.
The app is Yellowbook (US Yellow Pages Search).
Is there some residual file on my phone that I might be able to delete with ES File Explorer or via adb?
Please Post all Sprint Hero update rumors here. This not to be confused with the " Official 2.1 Thread. I would also sugest to our ever so patient moderators to move any post of this nature to this thread. Let's clean up the forum and when the update is out out we can get rid of all this with one flush.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, I finally decided to root my Sprint HTC Hero. My handset crashed for some reason and would not boot, so I figured while I had my hard cover pried off to pull the battery, I would give Z4Root a shot. Ironically, it worked without me having to pull my battery. Anyway, as I said, Z4Root worked great, but I after I installed ROM Manager, it keeps giving me an error about not being able to flash the recovery image. Am I doing something wrong here?
View 36 Replies View RelatedI've noticed after I have rooted and installed the newest Fresh rom I have problems getting my alarm to shut off in the morning. It's not a huge problem, just an annoyance. I have not installed vanilla lock screen, I did search the forums which states if you use that you have to use vanilla clock. I literally have to shut off the alarm every morning by shutting down the phone. Sometimes I do get lucky and it shuts off (after about 1-2 minutes) and then I have to disable the alarm and re-enable it or it will snooze.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis morning I thought I would change ROMs from Fresh 2.4 to the stock Sprint odex rooted ROM. Install went fine. But then I had to screw things up by using ROM Manager app to partition the SD cards in hopes of using the Apps2SD app. Upon reboot the phone goes as far as the Sprint Now area and then goes back to the white "HTC Quietly Brilliant" and flashes between a dark screen and the white screen. I have tried rebooting numerous times and this is where it is stuck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had installed a mobile defense guardian? App the other day, forget if that was the exact name and noticed after that. That I wasn't getting picture messages to show up right away anymore, now it seems like they have to send the same picture 2 or 3 times before it will actually download and I can view it. Wondering if there is some known issue or a fix to get it back to normal and working right again. I'm looking at one now and it just says it's downloading, never leaves that, doesn't show a picture.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed Meridian for playing my mp4 video files. I have started converting my avi's to mp4. I was testing some of the first ones and Meridian. I like this player but I have a question about its use. How do you stop a movie that is playing? It is easy to pause a movie but I don't know how to stop it other than using a task manager and killing it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was digging through the apps stored in /system, and noticed "googleapps.apk". Anyone know what exactly that's for, and can it be removed?
also, can "flickr", "navigator", "talk", "voice dialer", "voice recorder", and "voice search" be removed as well? I'm guessing yes, but just want to confirm.
I finaly have app to as working on the custom rom but certain apps were not moved after I flashed does anyone know the root commands to push apps from the system to the sd ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn order to root, I've got to have Flash_image in the system/bin directory. I don't have that file in the directory. I have the flash_image file from the RUU 2.1 leak I installed yesterday, but due to having no root access, I cannot copy the file into the system/bin folder.
I tried rooting and got stuck at flash_image recovery recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img because it kept saying "flash_image not found"
Does anyone know of a SIP application that integrates with a VoIP phone system?
I downloaded SIPdroid, but you have to use VoIP service through PBXes.org.
I have a VoIP phone system (ShoreTel) in which I can set up SIP extensions. Assuming I have an app on my phone (iPhone has this app), I can walk into my office, have the local wireless network connect to my phone via Wi-Fi, and automatically assign my desk extension to my phone. Therefore whoever calls my DID or my desk extension, it will ring directly to my Hero.
For whatever reason this has been happening a lot to me in the past couple of days. I have never had this problem before. I can get it to work but it seems like I have to reset my phone every time in order to regain access. This is really frustrating because I have been altering the framework and resources files to theme.
