Motorola Droid X :: System Update Not Available
Jul 24, 2010
I just checked the system updates for giggles but it is saying that check for update was not available at this time. Try again later.Anyone else seeing this? I am just worried that it might be because I am rooted.

I tried downloading and installing froyo OTA tonight and it rebooted and a status bar showed up. After about a third of the way into it an "!" icon appeared and the phone instantly rebooted. Upon reboot i got a message saying System update failed!I'm running 2.1 rooted - but all bloatware etc i've kept. Also running LP. Do i need to unroot before updating? I haven't read anything that says I need to.

I plan to return to 2.1? on my Droid and was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get rid of the constant System-Update reminders?
Sluggishness, quirks, disappearing alarms (and being late for work), and now the Certificate problem so I can no longer use Touchdown with the company Server........ have me missing the last version something fierce.
The rules of this forum restrict me from fully conveying my hatred for the recent OTA update to my original Droid. I am fully stock, un-rooted.

I guess I'm one of the few that had glitches w/ the update. First the galery link on the front page didn't update and I kept getting "this application is not installed" error. I couldn't drag it over to the red waste basket...it kept changing back to gray and the faulty icon stayed on the main desktop. That evening while on hold to Verizon I "force fed" it by holding it over the waste basket longer, then added the new gallery app from the slider screen.
Also noted that the gold button on the r side no longer worked for the camera, it brings up a quick messaging screen instead. They determined the ONLY way to fix this is to reset the phone back to factory issue. Is there another way around this? Or if I have to, what's the best way to back up everything and keep track of the installed apps? I really don't want to reset the phone.

Just got my X a couple days ago and want to make sure I have the latest system updates. I have tried several times, but when I do Settings/About Phone/System Update, it always says: "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later." I interpret this to mean that the update facility is down or busy, but it could also be interpreted to mean that there is no update available because I have the latest. What does it actually mean? By the way, my firmware version is listed as "2.1 update1" - is that the latest?

I am an Android app developer, and I have purchased a Nexus One device which I use to continuously test my developed Android applications.
Background: ----------------- One of the applications I developed uses a native shared library (e.g. myNativeLib.so). Only my application loads & uses this native library. I had developed this app before Android NDK came out. I pack my native library into my apk's 'assets' folder, and during my application start- up, I extract this native library from my package's assets folder to my app private directory (i.e. <assets> -> /data/data/<myappprocess>/ myNativeLib.so). Then I use System.load() API in my application to dynamically load this native library.
Problem: ------------ This application was developed during Android 1.5 (i.e. cupcake) days {I didn't have the Nexus One then}. The above procedure has been working without any problems right from Android 1.5 to Android 2.2 (i.e. Froyo). I have also tested the same on my Nexus One for Android 2.1 (i.e. Eclair) and Android 2.2.
The problem began the moment I recently upgraded my Nexus One to Android 2.2.1 via the FRG83 system update. Now, whenever I try to load my native library, I get the following error:
D/dalvikvm( 3653): Trying to load lib /data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so <some address> I/dalvikvm( 3653): Unable to dlopen(/data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so): Cannot load library: link_image[1995]: failed to link <mynativelib>.so
What I have Tried: -------------------------- 1. I tried my application using Android 2.2 SDK (emulator)...it works, no issues. 2. I checked out the latest froyo & android2.2.1 source code from Android open-source, built & tested my application + native lib using the latest froyo source...it built & ran, no issues. This should've taken care of any changes in the native code dependencies between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 3. I even checked Android 2.2.1 source code for dalvik (java System & Runtime classes) + bionic (linker & dlopen sources) between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 (using source checked out from Android open-source), but couldn't find anything consequential 4. I am unable to return my Nexus One to Android 2.2.

My Motorola Backflip is just 2 days old. I am facing some issues regarding Android Keyboard and Dialer applications and the Update of the system.
Android keyboard :- application functions improperly on an intermittent basis. When I want to compose a message and I open the keyboard for typing the typed characters are recognized (I can see them popping up) nut in the input box nothing gets typed.
Dialer application - When I want to place a call and hit the Green Call button in left of Home button I face following issues
1) the application takes a few second to appear
2) when I double-click or press and hold the contact to call the desired number the call does not initiate.
Finally I had to restart my phone. In two days this has happened so many times.
Also I tried checking for updates may times. But it said "the device is unable to connect to the server.Try again later."
There are no issues with my Wireless network.I ran Marketplace application and signed into my Google account successfully.

I've read many threads about the following message that I am getting when checking for system updates:"Check for update is not available at this time. Try Again later."
I've never seen a definitive cause nor cure. Anything definitive about this or is this just one of those deals that sometimes comes and goes? I have seen it before, but it's never stuck around for so long on any device I've owned.

I changed the default Droid Sans font with Helvetica Neue (which looks gorgeous by the way) and rebooted, worked perfectly. I then decided to change the bold version as well, rebooted, but now I'm stuck at the red Droid eye loading screen over and over again (not the Motorola logo). It just loads for a couple seconds then flashes then repeats. I'm 100% sure I didn't misspell anything and I still have the backups of the fonts in the system folder but how can I now boot into the phone without factory resetting it?

I have just noticed a couple days ago that some of my sounds aren't working on my Droid X. Ringtones, alarms, notifications work. Audible touch tones, audible selection, keyboard typing and some other sounds in games are not working. Also, when rebooting the "droid" sound isn't playing (not sure if that was taken out with froyo.) About a week ago these sounds were all working so I know it wasn't the update that killed them. And yes I've looked and made sure that all the checks were selected for these sounds.

I don't really know much about this but I have the leaked 2.2 update, rooted, Droid X and I would like to know if it's possible to change the system font (Droid Sans) with a different one, and/or the consequences of doing so. Something leads me to believe it's not possible/easy to do because I haven't seen too much of this but if it is possible, a link to a tutorial would be much appreciated. Although a confirmation of the possibility of this would also be nice!

I've been messing around with metamorph, and thank the members here for pointing me in the right direction to find the themes I am currently running the I.C.E. theme by tdawg. Everything applied correctly on top of Sholes 2.0.5, without messing up any performance tweaks. Only thing that did NOT apply(no surprise) is the font in the screenshots. I'd like to have this font- it is the same in the Droidinator theme and a few others I have seen screenshots of. So my question is.. where to I find this font, and how do I apply it(Hopefully through a terminal emulator since that is all I have set up so far)?

I've got a quick question.
My friend bricked his DX with the Deodexing or whatever. After an sbf flash..
Can we update to 2.2 via update.zip in recovery, install rom manager, and then install MY backup on his phone? I'm currently uploading them to file hosting, and wondering if this would work.
If so, will he be fully rooted, deodexed, and themed(I'm rocking the xtreme 2.2 theme)?

I just posted this in the regular android discuss group but I do believe that developers should read this as well. This directly affects you as well. This first began with my personal experience, I have an HTC Magic and I'm at version 1.5 a friend of mine has a g1 while another just got a Milestone. The issue is one friend can't understand why one phone can see this app and another can't or why one phone can do one thing that another can't, Their both running android whats the problem (ex. The Milestone has maps 3.3.1 the G1 has old Maps 3.1). I'm getting tired of explaining that even though they are both androids one is more up to date then the other and there really is no way to update. Even "IF" you rooted the phone you have to deal with bugs and ports its ridiculous. Now I love Android and I want to see Android KILL iPhone and eventually Symbian and I DO know that this is not necessarily Google's problem but it is indeed a problem that affects Google and it's users wanting to get the full Google Experience. I recently read a PC World article stupidly titled Android doomed to self destruct which I do not believe and its at this link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/189969/google_android_is_doomed_to_sel... but I realized that I am not the only person that sees this. Today there is an article on Slashdot as well as 2 on infoworld. We need to fix this at least some kind of update system that does not rely on manufacturers or at least forces them to act. Devices are releasing today with android 1.6 and if I research I'll probably find a few releasing 1.5. HTC is still pumping out Magic's with this old firmware, it's just getting very messy all across the board. Is there any suggestion as to what can be done at least on paper, any ideas?

I'm trying to root my damn Droid X (pardon my frustration; It's been a long, uncooperative day). First I tried the method found here: Multiple phones - Root them, unroot them - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum
I tried using Step 2 Option A, since I don't have Windows on any computer I own or have access to. I get to the following part before it doesn't work properly:

So I was going to update to Froyo manually when I noticed that my 'check for system updates' is disabled in the about phone menu. I can only think of two reasons:
1. I'm rooted (doesn't seem likely)
2. I'm roaming but still on 3g (This would be annoying as I have to drive 20 miles to verizon towers)Any ideas? On a separate note maybe this is an advantage.I'm new to the Android platform and have heard of issues upgrading to 2.2. Maybe I should just wait until Moto puts out the patch?

I use navigation on my motorcycle and I used to be able to use Pandora at the same time, but lately just keeps stalling. Some seem to think in 2.1 Android's memory management is somehow messing with services that Pandora needs to run. Would installing it as a system app help in any way? I am running Cyanogen 5.0.5.7 if it matters at all.

I am still getting to know the ins/outs of my newly rooted phone. I am using an app called PowerManagerPro and it gives the following instructions to install to the system/app directory to activate certain rooted functions.

I am not able to get this done using the Terminal Emulator, it keeps saying "cp not found". I also cannot find a function in Root Explorer to install the APK in the the system/app. Is there another way to install APK's into the system/app folder?
