HTC Incredible :: System Update Not Installing (Rooted)
Nov 23, 2010
My Incredible is rooted. For the past few days I've received a notification that a system update will be installed and the phone will reboot. Nothing happens, no reboot and no evident change. Now that the phone is rooted do I need to apply updates manually? Should I take the Verizon updates at all? (The only specific change mentioned in (more info" for this update is the addition of an app called "Slacker").

I am getting calls going straight to voicemail with no missed calls on my phone, when I have full signal, so orange have (after a lot of calls) agreed to terminate my contract. I have to return my phone (shame I could not keep it for free!) and have rooted my phone, and installed the modaco ROM.
I want to return it with an orange ROM, and was wondering if I can just install the updated orange ROM on my phone over the top of the modaco, and has anyone done this successfully? From reading around I am assuming that this would hide the fact that I have ever rooted or installed a custom ROM, as I want to be back on warranty?

I have a rooted Desire with 2.1 OS and I want to update to 2.2 but when I check in About section for a software update first System Update Available is 1.21.405.2 . Ok until now. I supose the first thing is to do this update and after reboot when I'll check to new System Software Update a 2.2 will appear.
After I download 1.21.405.2 via Wifi phone starts backup process and then reboots in a black screen with green SYNC icon and a loading bar stop loading after a few seconds an another black screen with a BIG RED question mark appears and then phone reboots as usual but with no update Why can't update in order to pass next step: 2.2 OS update ?

How to update this damn thing once it's rooted so I can stop getting notifications every three minutes that there's a system update? I'm about to throw this thing against the wall and start using two tin cans held together by a string.

I got fed up of waiting and decided to root. I decided to go with 3rd wave 2.2 and everything went smooth. Now my question is if I want to try other Roms do I need to do anything special or just download to the SD card and repeat the same drill. Or do I need to do a recovery and or uninstall wave prior to installing a new rom?

I rooted my phone with Unrevoked Forever and installed the Virtuous 2.2 ROM a while ago, anyway, I'm getting a notification about a system Update that wants to install Verizon Bloatware on my phone, so I was gonna install it then promptly delete the apps just to get rid of the notifications, but when I go to install, it counts down from 10 to restart, then does nothing. So the notifications keep coming up, no matter how many times I try it.

I have a rooted Droid Incredible currently running froyo (2.2) with a sky raider 2.0 ROM. I have attempted to install the PB31IMG.zip then the update.zip onto a rooted incredible then installed the sky raider ROM. I did not realize that the PB31IMG.zip did not successfully install. From what I could tell it unzips it then says that it cannot find the images. After downloading it to my PC before putting on the root of the SD card it wont let me open it and says that it is corrupt and could not create the file. However I am able to unzip it from my PC running XP. Basically My issue is that the sky raider 2.0 ROM only works with the version2 baseband and I have baseband 1.x version and cannot seem to get it updated. It is causing the wireless tether to not work and the camcorder. Sorry If i have provided too much detail or confusing. I have also tried to unroot but since it wont open the PB31IMG.zip i am unable to downgrade.

I recieved the ota update this morning and tried to install. while the phone did its thing with the power off i would get an exclamation point and with any button press would bring me into clockwork. I have no idea how to get the 2.2 update working and upon reboot of the phone i go to setting and check for software updates and am told it is up to date. If i go to the about phone section I am still running 2.1update1. Is it because my phone is rooted that I can not update? I do not care for root capabilities as my friend did it for me and wireless tether can be done natively. I have done a factory reset twice now but i can not get this froyo update to work.

What the title says basically. I'm rooted and on 2.1, and was wondering what would happen if I install the upcoming OTA 2.2 update. Should I unroot it first?

alright, just installed 2.2, but my incredible has rebooted 5 times already after the initial install. it's currently rebooting, showing the lock screen, then when i pull it down i get the white htc screen with the pop up and some sort of % (i imagine some sort of setup process) it's already told me the first time "congratulations, you've been updated to build x.x.x.xxx" it also tells me "sorry! process System is not responding" now that just sounds like crap. it just rebooted the 6th time... note that i installed 2.2 manually.

I get an error when I try to update the radio. "update radio ignoring attempt to do multiple firmware updates" I don't know what I did wrong. I put PB13IMG.ZIP on sd card, it installed. Then DINC_OTA and renamed to update applied that. REBOOTED checked settings and its still not updated.

I was sitting at my desk and work and saw the "System Update" notification pop up on my phone. I grabbed my phone, stood up, and showed my coworker. Unfortunately, in doing so I accidentally pressed "Update Now." I had planned to post-pone the update until I got home so I could Unrevoked Forever and S-Off. It's currently in the middle of installing (little ! icon w/ the Android guy next to it). I guess I'm going to lose my root. Any idea how long I'll have to wait to gain it back?

I don't want to start a flame war, but I've heard from two people that they've received an OTA update notification. One of them has a rooted phone, the other person is an acquaintance and I don't know if their phone is rooted or not.Personally I think it might have something to do with rooted Dinc's (I haven't gotten a notice) but just to be sure, has anyone else received an update notice?

I have a rooted HTC 2.2 unrevoked (yay) and i have been getting a message coming up everyday and saying there is an update available. I click on it and it asks to install now or later. It is an android update saying it will update the vcast suite of apps. Well I have uninstalled that crap with Titanium backup. Whatever, im adventurous and I tell it to install and it says ii will reboot and it never does. It says it is downloaded but it just never installs and it is getting annoying.

I did the manual update and now when it boots up I do not get any network connection. When I go to the network connections it says that I am connected to the verizon network. But it will not show the bars or the 3G it just shows an x I am new to android. I used to update my Blackberry all the time I never had these issues. How do I get it back to 2.1 if I cannot get this fixed.
Also I went into my SD & Phone Storage Folder. And none of my SD or Phone Storage is available as if they r not even there. Now I am getting a window that pops up saying: Sorry System is not Responding force close/wait

I recently rooted my Incredible and installed the leaked 2.2 update. Since then, occasionally when I go from one app and then click the home button, it flashes and then shows the HTC white screen and then it takes time to load all my home screens back up. It seems to me like HTC Sense is rebooting.

I am an Android app developer, and I have purchased a Nexus One device which I use to continuously test my developed Android applications.
Background: ----------------- One of the applications I developed uses a native shared library (e.g. myNativeLib.so). Only my application loads & uses this native library. I had developed this app before Android NDK came out. I pack my native library into my apk's 'assets' folder, and during my application start- up, I extract this native library from my package's assets folder to my app private directory (i.e. <assets> -> /data/data/<myappprocess>/ myNativeLib.so). Then I use System.load() API in my application to dynamically load this native library.
Problem: ------------ This application was developed during Android 1.5 (i.e. cupcake) days {I didn't have the Nexus One then}. The above procedure has been working without any problems right from Android 1.5 to Android 2.2 (i.e. Froyo). I have also tested the same on my Nexus One for Android 2.1 (i.e. Eclair) and Android 2.2.
The problem began the moment I recently upgraded my Nexus One to Android 2.2.1 via the FRG83 system update. Now, whenever I try to load my native library, I get the following error:
D/dalvikvm( 3653): Trying to load lib /data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so <some address> I/dalvikvm( 3653): Unable to dlopen(/data/data/<myappprocess>/ <mynativelib>.so): Cannot load library: link_image[1995]: failed to link <mynativelib>.so
What I have Tried: -------------------------- 1. I tried my application using Android 2.2 SDK (emulator)...it works, no issues. 2. I checked out the latest froyo & android2.2.1 source code from Android open-source, built & tested my application + native lib using the latest froyo source...it built & ran, no issues. This should've taken care of any changes in the native code dependencies between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 3. I even checked Android 2.2.1 source code for dalvik (java System & Runtime classes) + bionic (linker & dlopen sources) between Android 2.2 & Android 2.2.1 (using source checked out from Android open-source), but couldn't find anything consequential 4. I am unable to return my Nexus One to Android 2.2.

I've read through the step-by-step here, and while I've found it to be the clearest set of instructions I've encountered, I still have a couple points of confusion. It sounds like by the time I get to the end of Section 2 (version 1) I will have a custom ROM installed (2Q). Now I've used Titanium Backup (I used the pre-OTA Unrevoked for su) to back up apps/data/settings. But I'm not sure what that gets me. What if I want to revert the phone to exactly how it is now? A Titanium Restore would restore apps/data/settings into the custom ROM loaded in 2Q correct?
It appears my answer is in Section 3, item 3D (NAND backup). But at what point do I do Section 3? If I've already gone through Section 2, my current ROM is overwritten by the custom ROM loaded in 2Q, so it's too late to back it up, right? Perhaps I'm making this more difficult than it needs to be, and I'm usually not a complete idiot about technology! But I'm having trouble getting my arms around some of these concepts. I see a lot of instructions saying "do this, do this, do this", but very little explanation what's actually happening when I do these things, and why I'm doing them, so I'm failing to grasp how the various pieces and actions are fitting together.

I use navigation on my motorcycle and I used to be able to use Pandora at the same time, but lately just keeps stalling. Some seem to think in 2.1 Android's memory management is somehow messing with services that Pandora needs to run. Would installing it as a system app help in any way? I am running Cyanogen 5.0.5.7 if it matters at all.

I am still getting to know the ins/outs of my newly rooted phone. I am using an app called PowerManagerPro and it gives the following instructions to install to the system/app directory to activate certain rooted functions.
[Quote]
I am not able to get this done using the Terminal Emulator, it keeps saying "cp not found". I also cannot find a function in Root Explorer to install the APK in the the system/app. Is there another way to install APK's into the system/app folder?

yesterday i rooted my desire but i have no interest in installing a custom rom. all i want to install is apps2sd or apps2sd +i have read many guides but most of them conflict each other.if i was to follow these steps what would be wiped from the phone.
Using the optical trackpad select Wipe > Wipe data/factory reset
After this has completed do Wipe > Wipe cache
Again, once this has completed do Wipe > Wipe Dalvik-cache.
I understand that the sd card gets wiped and that is not a problem, i'm more worried what gets wiped from the phone memory (not worried about installed apps) also can i do the ext3/4 from the phone as i only have windows 7.

I'm a big fan of Toggle Settings but my one wish would be that it could toggle GPS. From what I understand, the security of Android doesn't allow any app to turn GPS on/off. My question is, since installing Mobile Defense as a system application allows it to turn my GPS on, would installing Toggle Settings as a system app enable the same feature? Does anybody know of a way around this or another app that is similar and can toggle GPS settings?
