So I ended up having to get a new Droid X shipped to me cause there was a problem with the screen and it was declared DOA. This new Droid X is working out great for the past couple of days. Now all of a sudden my ringtones are switching on and off and pinging like they don't exist on the SD card, but when I turn the phone off and remove the SD card and reinsert it back in everything's fine but then the "Droid" on/off noise is pinging now. It's the same issue I had with the originial phone, but that one was replaced because after the Froyo update I couldn't get any signal out of my house and Verizon concluded that I was close enough to a tower that I should be getting a minimum of like 3 or 4 bars. So my question is this. What is going on with my phone? I am currently operating on 2.2, I am not rooted. I have not messed with the essence of the phone, since I don't know that much about the software. I have not uploaded any apps that control or silence the phone and all my apps that were uploaded are the ones that I had on my prior phone with the screen issue, and they never caused this issue.
Here is the list of apps on my phone for those of you who would like to know: WordPress, AppBrain, AIM, Adobe Reader, NotePad, ColorPad, Pandora, DroidLight, Where's My Droid, Key Ring, Barcode Scanner, Urbanspoon, Jewels, The Schwartz Unsheathed, Angry Birds Beta, Astro, ChompSMS, Creature Pack Icon, Fancy Widget, and Smartshortcuts. So as you can see it's a very small list of things on my actual phone. I have used soundboards from the android market but that was only on my first phone and they were never ranked any lower than 4 and half stars. I don't download any apps below 4 stars. And I read all the comments as well, and there was nothing fishy or bad written about them. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to make sure I hit everything for you guys to be able to help me. I just don't want to go to Verizon if I don't have to cause they want to reset and send me home and it's a recurring issue if it's like my prior issue. I'm wondering if I have a bad SD card.Edit: Additionally I have the old phone with the screen issue and I had the new SD card that came with the phone, I popped it into the phone I'm currently using and powered it back on, and it's still pinged. I'm just not getting what the issue is cause everything was working fine the night before. All my ringtones were working and then I took it off of silent (the slide to silent from the lock screen, which I use since I haven't heard if the silent profile was fixed) and now everything is messed up sound wise.

I have been reading some posts so I am better informed when my D2 gets here in a few days. I have noticed some posts about facebook causing problems. Since I do use facebook and twitter alot can you all explain to me;
1. What exactly is going on when facebook messing up contact lists?
2. I have heard it mentioned a few times that the widgets for facebook and twitter are bad on the battery? Can someone elaborate on this since I am new to these android phones and also anything else I might want to look out for. If so I would be appreciative. Thanks to a situation in my life this phone has to last me at LEAST two years.

So if my phone becomes a paper weight after the OTA rolls out then Verizon did it on purpose right? You can't tell me they can't force the OTA to override the leaked version. I would think they would force all the phones to update to their version of the OS. Therefore, if my phone bricks after the OTA then they are just being jerks right?

I installed the 2.1 update twice yesterday, once on my phone, once on my the wifes.My phone is working perfectly, her is asking for a password to unlock.My question is what the password for my wifes phone is when I didn't set a password up for her. I set our phones up the same way, but hers requires a password.

I just got my update notice, but don't have 40% batter power. Can I run the update with the phone plugged in? Otherwise, I'll just charge and wait until morning.

Rather than waiting for an OTA update, it looks like you can manually update the phone through your PC.....but the catch is it factory resets your phone once it's done: Manual Update Instructions from your PC: DROID Eris by HTC

So i found this link from theunlockr.com which shows you how to root your eris and put 2.1 on it. I want 2.1 but i am not sure about the root. Any cons to rooting? Will i still receive ota updates? Anything i can do with rooted eris that i can't do with non-rooted that would make the phone a lot better? I don't want to overclock it i am just looking for more options with the phone. Will i lose all my contacts and apps by doing this? Can i use different apps like the ones the moto droid can use but i can't because i am on 1.5?

i havent been postin much but have been lurking hardcore cus of 2.1 and root updates. anyways before anyone else gets their 2.1 OTA, please do us all an altruistic favor
1)Deny the OTA update when the phone prompts you, dont worry you can manually get this later.
2)Install the SDK and ADB on your computer and run the command

I updated my Eris to 2.1 about a month ago, and it's been running fine up until about last week. Lately, the battery hasn't been lasting me more than 12 hours, and I've done everything I can to save battery life, plus the battery cover usually gets hot enough to cook some eggs on top of. The problems I've encountered lately is with making and receiving calls. When trying to call someone, it seems to take forever. I know my phone isn't the fastest Android, but it used to work fine. It takes a good 30 seconds just to type in a 10 digit number; the phone usually freezes a couple of times, its just generally laggy.
When I try to receive a call, the same basic thing happens. The phone freezes up while I am trying to slide the bar down on the lock screen, etc. Here's the main issue. After sifting through the freezing and lagging, and finally get to the call, I cannot hear anything, and they cannot hear me. The call is connected; I see the notification up top, and I have got the vibrate to tell me it's connected.

I got Task Panel X for me Hero and i've been trying to play aroudn with it. But ever since I got it, the weather part of HTC's flip clock widget has been messing up. It just shows a blank, no weather. Whenever I turn off the Task Panel X, it stops messing. Does anyone know how to make Task Panel X not stop the weather on the clock app? Everything about the app works fine except this.

Now that I have rooted and done the 2.1 update 2 days later Verison plans to update the phone. my question is is there a way to urn on the OTA update for the rooted Eris? If not then I am sure there will be an updated ROM that covers all the OTA stuff, but I was just wondering if there was a way to turn on OTA.

Got my phone rooted with Unrevoked3.I have not applied -s off. I have not updated the radio, flashed ROM, or changed kernel- just running stock.I have installed some root only apps and removed City ID, Twitter, and Peep.So what should I do if the expected OTA update comes through?Can I apply the update on a rooted phone? I believe from what I have read that I would have to unroot and revert to stock in the box.Do I want to apply the update?If I apply the update with -s on will I permanently lose root?(I have too much faith in the droid community and xda-dev to really believe this would be more than a temporary problem)

Just wondering how often people choose to update their applications. I currently have about 13 updates available, but I hate that the updates ADD to the size of the app instead of replacing what you have. Eventually, after updating Google Maps a few more times, the thing is gonna be over 10MB... not that that is HUGE necessarily but a few apps like that, that keep adding on 1 or 2 MB per update will definitely add up. Sometimes I will uninstall and reinstall again, so as not to end up with a much bigger file size-- however, I'm not sure that always works as I think it should. Anyhoo, what is your application update process? Update all? None? Just ones you think are necessary? Also, sometimes updates are awful, so I try to read comments before updating, although there is usually someone who's not happy no matter what.
