HTC Droid Eris :: Contacts Losing Assigned Ringtones
Aug 18, 2010
I only have about 5 contacts with assigned ringtones (for the people who call me the most) and ANY incoming call from ANYONE now rings with the default ringer.Nothing works. Just the default ringtone every time.Any ideas/thoughts? Doesn't seem to be a big enough issue to cause a stir yet, thus I haven't seen any helpful threads on the subject.

I have looked around for a fix but haven't found any yet. When I create trimmed ringtones via the htc trimmer and assign them to a contact, they will work fine until I reboot the phone. I tried some fixes like moving the ringtones to the SD card and that has allowed the phone to find them upon reboot but it will not put the tones back with the contacts. Is there a way to permanently stick the ringtone to the contact so they don't un-link after a reboot?

Can I assign a specific ringtone to one contact? For example have the default for everyone and then another ringtone for just one contact?

I am having the problem where I have set custom ringtones for some of my contacts, but they are not always being played as they are assigned.
I have all of my ringtones in an folder on my sd card (/sdcard/media/audio/ringtones). I have a custom ringtone set as default and other custom ringtones set for a few of my contacts. However, when I receive a call the phone will only occasionally play the correct ringtone. Most times it plays either the default ringtone, or the ringtone assigned to the last person that called (this last option being more common).

I can only get the default ring tone to work - and not the specific ring tones assigned for certain people (wife, mother, siblings, etc.) The default ring tone I have is the Mananamah (muppet song) and is located in the same folder "ringtones" as the other ones. WTH?

Ever since I have received the 2.1 update. I can't seem to find how I select a ringtone for a particular contact. I don't see the option in the contact list anymore where you add a new contact. Anyone know how to do this?

I am syncing contacts from Gmail, Exchange, and Facebook.I have contacts in Gmail that do not have pictures (nor do I have them as friends on Facebook). All of these contacts show the same picture - which isn't any of them. It's a picture that used to be the main profile picture (but not anymore) of a random friend on Facebook. The picture shows up when I click on the contact or when the contact calls, but not when I'm scrolling through the contact list - it shows no picture then or when I try to edit the contact.I can't seem to get this picture to go away on any of those contacts, and it's not especially helpful.I really would rather no picture show up than a random picture of someone else.

If I mount my SD Card to add some pictures to it, upon ejecting the EVO rescans it (and it takes forever). Once that happens I lose all my personalized ringtone settings in contacts. Any fix?
It happens when I mount the card on a PC or Mac, and I'm ejecting before pulling the cable on both.

I have been taking pictures and assigning them to contacts but when they call or I bring up the contact the picture is no longer as vivid as when I took the picture. It looks like it lost resolution or something. Not as sharp.

When I go into my contacts, I have a crap load of random contacts. I go into my contacts and click on groups, and click on Google, and I have 152 "Not assigned" contacts. People I may have just emailed once or do not need them in my phone. Is there anyway to delete these contacts from here?

Almost every time I click on People, the pictures for some of my contacts (and it's always the same thirty of my seventy-odd contacts) disappear and don't show up again for hours. This did not happen before the OTA.

I normally don't like making new threads to ask questions about stuff if the info is already out there, but unfortunately, I can't seem to find the info I'm looking for anywhere. I've googled and done searches and manually looked through the threads here on AF I even checked the documentation the X came with. My Fiancee just got the X and was setting it up and she was looking for a way to set up individual ringtones for certain contacts the way she had them set up on her Droid but there doesn't seem to be an option to do it on the X. Does anyone happen to know anything about this?

Picked up my Droid this morning and cannot figure out how to set a ringtone for calls received from a contact. I can set the general ringtone, but not any contact-specific ringtones. The manual (page 21) says it is doable: "Tip: When editing a contact, you can set a ringtone, address, and other details that will be saved on your phone."but I find nothing in the edit contact screen that lets me select a ringtone for it.Can anyone give me the steps?

I have Nonsensikal ROM installed on this Eris and occasionally make my own mp3 ringtones. But they never show up in the default list of available ringtones. Is this by Eris design?I know how to add a custom ringtone but was just curious as to why I cant include it in the default listing area rather than having to go to my music gallery.

The only thing I miss about the Blackberry is being able to have each Contact have a different ringtone for each service. My husband had 2 different ringtones. One for calls, one for texts.Iand so on for everyone. All my contacts had 2 or 3 different ringtones for each of them depending on what was cominng through.

I've transfered ringtones from my PC to the Droid X, but can't for the life of me figure out how to assign a particular ringtone to a particular contact. I've read some of the threads about other models of phones but the solutions there don't work with the X.

I logged in to my gmail and needed to send email and it wouldn't suggest contacts anymore. I went into contacts and all of them gone except the ones that only had email field filled in. The groups that i created are there but no contacts.
I went into my phone and google contacts are there but they won't sync, errors out with "sync is temporary down".
All this creates another problem for me, I have phone contacts and google contacts in my Eris. Phone contact are synced to PC and all is good but I need my google contact in my gmail so I can email people and I have no way of putting them back to gmail and don't even know how to back them up.

In my previous phone I could set different ringtones for those in my contacts list and then another ringtone for those numbers not in my contacts list so I could tell by the ringtone if someone was calling that was in my contacts list or not.On the Hero there doesn't seem to be any way to do this.I was also able to set different volume levels for various notifications (ie, louder for phone calls and quieter for email and sms notifications).Does anyone know if this is possible on the hero?

Using handcent and/or the stock client, when I receive an attached ringtone as do 'save MMS' on the sd card it is stored as qcp and not the native mp3 format the user sent.
Any ideas on a workaround, or how to use the qcp as a ringtone instead?
Not like its important; but my buddy who's still on the crackberry is having too much fun watch me pop a gasket trying to figure this out

I have a Droid Eris. I have Zedge. I have a certain notification sound that I downloaded from Zedge. It shows up on the list, but there is apparently no sound associated with the item in the list. I manually downloaded the notification to my phone to see if it would play on the phone at all...and yes, it does. But I can't select it from the music player to be a notification sound...all that lets you set is the main phone ringtone...and I don't want it for that.
I hooked up the phone to my PC and made sure all the files were in their correct and happy places...notifications in notifications folder, ringtones in ringtones folder, zedge in zedge.

How do I set different folders for my ringtones and mp3's? I put some ringtones as well as mp3's on my phone. When I open up the music player app, it shows my ringtones and mp3's all together. How do I keep them separate? I don't want my ringtones playing in my music app. The same issue applies to my pictures. I have some small pics that I'm using as my caller ID contact pics, I have some camera pics, and then a few wallpaper pics. I"d like to have them separated when I open up the Albums app. How do I do this?
