Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 :: Updated To Android 2.1 OS / How To Get Contacts Back?
Nov 17, 2010I recently updated my Xperia X10 from 1.6 to the new 2.1 Android OS. I'm on the Sony Ericsson page on my dashboard. I can see my 187 contacts that were backed up but I cannot get them to sync back with my phone which makes this phone completely useless.

Dec 1, 2010I'm so angry it's hard for me to even type. I upgraded my X10 mini pro to Android 2.1 today and I followed the instructions and the YouTube video EXACTLY step by step.I made a back-up before the update, with the updated Back-up & restore app.Now the Android update is done and i've tried and tried but I can't get my contacts back. Every time I run the restore function of Back-up & restore it tells me the restore is done, but when I go to my contacts list, it's empty.

Nov 17, 2010I have upgraded my OS from 1.6 to 2.1 today using the PC companion.
As suggested, I have taken the backup using the backup & restore app.
After, the phone got upgraded, I could find only facebook contacts in my list.
then i went to View options and played around with all the check boxes and i could view the contacts.
how ever, i could see each contact having the numbers multiple times inside it.
so, I deleted the contacts and tried to restore them again.
the restore was successful. i can see the contacts in my favorites list. when i dial/receive calls, i can still see the contact name.
but, the contacts are not being shown in the list. i know this is a weird problem.

Nov 1, 2010I installed android 2.1 today but for some reason I can't restore my contacts.I followed the instructions on the sony ericsson webpage and used the SE backup software to make a backup of my contacts, mms, photos etc. When I restored everything after the update everything was restored except my contacts. How can I get my contacts back? Is there some way to extract them manually from the backup file or something? The backup software can't seem to restore them for me.

Nov 30, 2010I have put this on a few threads but it obviously only get read by a few people hopefully this will help backup your contacts in the phonebook, when in the phonebook press the menu key, then more you have the option to backup contacts select that and back them up to your SD Card, you can install them back from here after the update .SE Backup and Restore does seem to lose your contact list after update, it also appears to lose the apps.I found out after a previous update that backup and restore lost my contacts so this time I used the phonebook backup.It stores it as one VCF file, you just import it after update and it puts all contacts back as they were before.I only say it appears to lose the apps as I used it for this backup and there were no apps there but I had them on my SD Card anyway.Use the phonebook backup don't rely on Backup and Restore

I backed up my contacts, messages, call logs everything.When the phone was updated and I restored everything contacts are missing all the rest are there.A little background to know. For some reason Xperia X10 cannot read my SIM contacts from the day I bought it when we were on 1.6 so I decided to create an CSV file to add them to the mobile memory not to the SIM.So now what? The restore is sending the contacts again to SIM that's why I cannot see them?I do not want to lost my contacts again.

Nov 18, 2010Just wondering how I can get all my contacts showing the correct name in my phonebook. After 2.1 upgrade it imported all my facebook buddies, and because I call everyone by nicknames it has duplicated a lot of entries. I've tried "joining" the duplicates together to get just the one entry per person, but it seems to randomly choose whether they are stored under their facebook name or the nickname I have for them. I've tried entering what I want them to be called in the 'nickname' bit under the contact 'edit' screen, but again it seems to be random as to whether it then uses this name to display them in my contact list.

Sep 20, 2010I have two groups of contacts "MyContacts" and "Utilities". When I set up synching I selected to copy "All contacts".
Unfortunatey, when I look what's on my area on sonyericsson.com/wportal I see only the contacts from the group "MyContacts".
I.e. the site creates a false feeling of security - if I need to restore my phone from this site I will irrecovarebly lose lots of data.
I don't know is SE forgot to test their function or Android-hackers don't understand the features of the contacts.
All area of handling the contacts stinks seriously, and mkes you wander if the Android people ever used a mobile phone :
1. X10 does not accept contacts sent via SMS (VCARD-format), (or via MMS or bluetooth)
2. X10 does not sync with Outlook where most of business people have their contacts, and maintain them when receiving corporate mails etc.
3. The only way to get the contacts is to export from PC to a csv-file and import to gmail, and then sync to the phone. This is not that flexible due the export via csv. I.e. If I create cntacts in the phone they will not reach Outlook.

Anyone have any ideas how I can get this back into my app drawer? All my contacts are there, but no way to access them.

Aug 20, 2010Just received my phone yesterday and had a problem getting the SIM contacts from my old W910i phone to the Xperia x10. Followed the instructions to the letter, then called up Orange and they tried a few ways to get them over, went to the shop this morning to try and sort it out but after over an hour it was to no avail. The young chap in the store said that it must be based on the database setup - they must be incompatible.
So I now have to manually input my old contacts on the new phone when I encountered another problem - whilst inputting a contact detail, I pressed something on the bottom left of the keyboard and suddenly I am faced with Korean language. I went to Settings and set the language to English UK and went back to the contact I was editing, but still faced with a Korean keyboard.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 ::back Up Before Software Update
Aug 6, 2010Im about to do my first update and i really dont have a clue what im doing !! i downloaded the free MY back up yesterday .. saved apps and data to the sd card and started the download through the phone in the software update section in 'about phone' ...neway i ran out of time before i went to work and cancelled the update as it was taking AGES !
So i today , i go to resume the update , but check first that all my data is still in my back up ... and surprise surprise my 30 day free trial has ran out after less than 24 hrs ! ... thank god i checked !
Anyway ... what i really want to know is ... A) is it worth the updates .. any real benefit ? (bearing in mind im not very technically minded , clearly!)
B) If it is .. then what is the best, trusty free file manager ... that will store my apps , contacts , settings etc ... basically everything!
C) Should i do it through the website, via my laptop and usb rather than through the phone ?
heres my stats ...not that i have a clue what they mean....baseband 1.0.14, kernel 2.6.29-rel, build number R1FA014. i gather that these updates alter the build number?

Aug 24, 2010i recently purchaed my SE x10 mini pro, and im relatively happy with it, although there are a few simle functions missing. i know how to import your sim contacts onto your phone, however is there a way to export contacts onto your sim? so that each time i add a new contact i'd save it onto the sim rather than the phone?
