A question for all you Sprint HTC Hero owners: can you customize the main screen (homepage?) on your phone? I know you can customize and add pages of icons but can any of those become the default page your phone powers up to? I'd want to remove the HTC Date-Clock-Weather banner and just have a plain wallpaper-type screen with a couple icons on it .

I just followed the instructions in the stickies root message and boom - I'm rooted. Flashed with Fresh 1.1. Can anyone direct me to somewhere on how to customize the screens? Also, there are a couple of new icons at the top of my home screen - an "E" inside a circle and after a phone call, I get a green circle in the notification bar.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I am using the brorwer and I go to a website, and after I am done looking at whatever it is I looked at I just just hit the home button and it take me out of the browser. Now when I go to use the browser again it pulls up with the last website I was looking at. I hit the menu key and usually have to tap bookmarks and then tap my homescreen bookmark. Is there an alternative way to load my homescreen ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI realize that there isn't really a way to customize the vibrate function with stock functionality. And I realize that Handcent provides such an option (which I loved, for the short time it worked), but Handcent also causes vibrate to stop working almost completely in the phone (except for calls) even after being uninstalled. So Handcent is no option. Quite surprising actually, that they'd have such a fatal bug in the program. You always know when it happens to. You go to send a text (after some undefined amount of successful texts), and suddenly the phone reboots as you're sending. At that point, vibrate has stopped working for pretty much everything except calls. Anyway... my question is whether there's any other app out there to either customize the whole vibrate function, or at least customize it for texts. I did a search and couldn't find much information on the subject (and some of what I *did* find was rather old). Two quick vibrates is not very useful for texts when it takes much longer than that to notice it vibrating (especially with how weak and quick those two vibrations are).

I really like how much you can customize the fonts, colors, and notifications as well as other things. I also like the notification system. I use it to notify me instead of the default sms app. Once I open, reply or close the text the notification goes away. I was thinking of trying Handcent just to see how it compares. I was wondering if it has a lot of customization options and notification options as well.

I just got the Hero today in the UK and am on the Orange network. On the Home screen i have 4 icons and the 3rd one is browser. If I press it I instantly get a white page (Instantly as in no loading time or attempt to connect to the internet) with black writing. It has loads of symbols and http stuff at the start. Then continues with the message "The page you are trying to access is only available via your orange phone when connected via the orange gprs network.
The part at the start also mentions orange world. If I go into More-Settings-Set Homepage I try and change this to google it shows as google is the Homepage. But again if I launch the browser again I get the white page with black writing. The funny thing is I can connect to the internet no problem by typing in a URL manually. And I am using the orange network for that. I called tech supp for orange and the guy was pretty useless and no joy. Why no homepage, but can browse through URLS's?
Recently I noticed cleary my screen has a burnt image of my homepage. Its only visible when the background is solid white. Seems to be getting worse though. Wondering if anyone else has this problem?

I have managed to use it to open up webpages including my usual email provider/facebook and have bookmarked them. I have inserted my numbers into the address book (and managed to sync with facebook for photos/birthdays), send SMS, make phone calls but that is it! In simple terms: how can I find apps and download them, does it always work through WiFi, how can I take things off the homepage (I have managed to install the (empty) playlist to the homepage but cannot remove it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had the hero for about a month now, great phone but today some issues arose. When I launch the browser, my home page is google. However it google now loads in Spanish and none of the links will work (thee get highlighted but doesn't take me any where). The same is true for any of my bookmarks, the site loads but is missing images etc., seems to be all text etc., and none of the links work. I've already cleared everything, cache, history passwords etc., and even tried inputting new sites and tried loading them, same scenario, site loads but no images, format is different and links don't work. All other apps work, gmail, calendar etc.

View 3 Replies View Related1st time poster long time lurker. I have done a search on Google trying to find a solution or at least a reason as to why my phone is behaving this way. Search produces nothing. This week my phone started behaving strange. I will get a call, but the caller ID no longer displays. Suddenly the screen starts to flash and I have to unlock the screen in order to see who is calling. By the time the screen is unlocked the person has already hung up. I have not done anything (add new programs) in the last 2 weeks and I am not sure why this is happening.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.
