Sprint HTC Hero :: Google Calendar
Dec 23, 2009I'm having some issues with utilizing my Google Calendar on my Hero.
First off, I've always used my company's Exchange Server for Contacts and Calendar, simply because my Outlook is always open at work and it's easier than opening a web browser to access my Google Calendar and Contacts. The problem I've been seeing lately with my Hero, for some reason, is that the Exchange syncronization is out of whack. There are times where it acts as it should (it's set to sync "As Items Arrive") and other times where it won't sync for 12 hours. I'll look at my phone, and emails and calendar entries that have either been deleted, changed or added are not sync'd with the server.
Yesterday, I realized that Google has a sync client that can sync the Exchange with your Google Calendar, so I set that up on my work computer to sync every 10 minutes with my Exchange Server, and then set my phone to only sync/show the Google Calendar, figuring that I could bypass the potential Exchange Issues. I gave this setup a try, and the calendar became virtually unusable. It would take 40 seconds to open and perform any kind of action. Once opened, it would hang. I also noticed that under "Date Syncronization" in the Google tab, the Calendar was continually trying to sync (it was always showing the little sync circle) and the icon was a mainstay at the top of the screen. I've always had the Google calendar sync with the phone (no idea why, since I never had it viewed in the Calendar app) and I never saw this behavior (interesting note....I finally figured out why I was getting dual notifications on things even after dismissing....even though the calendar isn't being "shown" in the app....the data is still being synced and the notification will still go off...duh on my part). Could this constant syncing and hanging of the app be a result of the calendar continually polling my Exchange Server? I'd really like a way to utilize the Google Calendar sync on my phone without actually having to use the UI of Google Calendar on the computer.

Oct 18, 2009exchange to sync email due to the fact you have more options on the email client that comes with phone as opposed to the basic gmail program that comes with phone? Is this a good way to go? Is exchange just as fast in pushing the email as google is when it syncs as it comes in? Thanks...

In the native calendar app on the HTC Hero?I have been trying to determine if this is a limitation of the Calendar Application or a miss configuration my end. I have seen Android phones that can view subscribed calenders from other users before, but I am the only person I know to own a HTC andriod phone and on the Hero I can not see any of my subscribed calendars.The gmail account tied to the the HTC hero has 6 calendars created through gmail interface. A short view of the accounts is listed below as an example of my problem.

Jan 10, 2010I have my hero using built in calendar app.I have a google calendar and a Exchange calendar, I also have My calendar, not sure what that is. I would like to have all the calendars sync using the phone as the main source. So for example if I create a meeting on my phone it also shows on my exchange calendar and my google calendar. At the moment I have to add a calendar entry under the calendar I want the entry to show up on.So If I add an entry to my exchange calendar it doesn't show in google calendar. Can anyone suggest a sync method, without using PC, just phone.

I know you can customize and add pages of icons but can any of those become the default page your phone powers up to? Sep 16, 2010after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?

Sep 10, 2010iv heard ppl who downloaded android 2.2 online and installed it themselves on there phone since its not being offered ota. but im wondering if its safe? the phone is not actually getting 2.2 ever, so doing this would be my own choice. but im wondering if it will run smoothly, better than 2.1 update 1, and if there will be any problems or if anything that may not work because of compatability problems with the phone. because some people have said that 2.2 isnt being released to the hero because the phone is not physically capeable of it do to software and hardware (such as space ram speeds etc.), and others have said they installed it themselves and it works fine, that its actually made to run using less space then 2.1 making it better.

Jan 5, 2010I use Google calendar every day. If I update on my PC it is on my phone almost instantaneously if I amend that appointment on my Hero it will not sync to the PC over 3G. (I amend, update on the move during my day out and about) The only way to sync is to return to the PC and connect my phone to home wifi and force a sync. (untick calendar in "Application sync settings" the re-tick) My Googlemail and contacts sync fine, 3G and wifi.

Jul 23, 2010This is weird and I am starting to lose love for Android and my Hero... with Android 2.1 you can now have more than 1 Google account on your phone. I have two gmail accounts there under the phone's gmail app. (Both only update once per blue moon but that is an entirely separate issue ... I think).
I want to be able to sync my Google calendar with the phone's calendar, as I used to be able to do do quite nicely and easily on my crackberry, shouldn't be rocket science. So with the two gmail accounts on my phone, account #1 is one where I do NOT want to sync, either contacts or calendar, ever. Account #2 is the one where I *DO* want to sync contacts, email and calendar.
So I bring up the Gmail app on the phone, hit menu, hit accounts, hit menu again, then hit settings. Both accounts are showing up there. Going to account #2 (the one I *DO* want to sync with everything), the sync button is checked but there is *NO* calendar button to indicate it should also sync with calendar?? But doing the same thing with account #1 (the one I NEVER want to use to sync contacts or calendar), the calendar sync button *IS* there. WTH?
I thought maybe because the account I never want to sync with was added first, so I thought I would DELETE that one, get the calendar sync setup, then re-add that account. Nope - the phone says that if I do that, I will have to reset the phone back to factory settings and lose all personal data. WTF - was this phone and operating system made by Fred Flintstone?

Aug 4, 2010Today, I managed to sync. my Lotus Notes calendar with google calendar (after 2 days of turmoil)Then the notes events were displayed on google calendar but 6 hours ahead (like GMT) thought both calendars were set on the same time zone (CST).At this point, the calendar pad widget synced with google calendar and displayed all my lotus notes events 6 hours ahead as in the google calendar.I then changed my google calendar time zone to GMT so that my lotus notes events showed the correct time .But now, the calendar pad widget still shows the old google calendar events that was 6 hours off even after syncing.Can some one please help configure such that my lotus notes , google calendar and calendar pad widget all show the same events at same time (hopefully, maintaining the same time zone settings for all)

Nov 10, 2009I'm a new Droid Eris user and have been using Google Calendar for some time.I have a single calendar set up which is syncing with the Eris.I can successfully add/edit/delete entries from both applications and have them show up just fine on the other side.I have a couple of recurring entries that I've since deleted in Google Calendar but are still showing up on my Eris.The unique thing about both of these entries is that they were meeting requests sent to my Gmail address and accepted from there.They have since been cancelled from the original sender and are now removed from my Google Calendar.My calendar entries are labeled as dark blue, and these two show as light blue.I cannot select them on the Eris to edit or delete them.

May 27, 2010A Calendar App for the Hero that (a) has holidays already plugged in (so I can look ahead and find out what day Christmas falls on, etc), and (b) let's me schedule things (vacations, trips, appointments and meetings) then reminds me of those things via something like a pop-up or text message the day before. Does anything like this exist?
Every App I look at has to be "synced" with something else, or just seems to have way more than what I need. Ideas? Bueller? Anyone?

Jan 13, 2010Since I have been on holidays to Spain last Christmas (and used plane mode) my HTC hero does not properly sync with google calendar I see on my computer. The appointments I add on my phone do not show up on my computer (browser google calendar). Events that I enter in the browser do show up on my phone. So there is a one way synchrosisation. Sunbird on the computer is no longer able to connect with the google calendar. (It indicates a connection error) I removed the calendar it had and inserterd a new one (with the private ical address you can find in google calendar settings). But the connection error continues.
The calendar in Google desktop is able to connect to the calendar in the browser but also does not show the events I entered in my phone. I have checked and re-checked my phone's settings to see if all the options are checked but all seems ok. All sync options are checked: background / autosync / gmail / calendar / contacts (are synched both ways).
HTC Hero :: Restore Google Search Bar & Calendar
May 30, 2010This is probably so easy I'm overlooking the answer; but I've accidentally dragged the big google search bar and Calendar apps off screen and now it's gone. I did not even move to the 'remove' bar.
I know how to bring back the icon for Voice search and the icon for Calendar out of the Program list,..but I liked when they were maximized on their own panels.
Anyone know how to restore these in their maximized states?
HTC Hero : Google Calendar Sync - Stuck
Sep 8, 2010Google sync has been working fine till my Hero finally updated to all the latest software/firmware last weekend. Since then, it has continually failed to sync Google calendar (mail and contacts are fine) BUT it tries all the time - exhausting the battery every 12 hours in the process! I've seen suggestions to remove the account and re-set it up but it won't let me. Try to delete it and it says "This account is required by some applications. You can only delete it by resetting the phone to factory defaults which deletes all your personal data". It even continues to try and sync when 'Sync calendar' is NOT ticked on the 'data & sync' page! Any suggestions, or do I really need to go back to factory settings?
(& if so, how do I do that?)

Apr 3, 2010i'm having an issue with my calendar notifications and looking for some help.i'm running the default calendar app that came with the phone and it is properly synched with my google calendar. the synching is working fine; in fact everything is great in that regard. the problem lies in that when i update something from my computer.say, i'm on my home pc and put in an event, even though it shows up in my phone, my phone does not give me a notification of the event.i have done a couple 'test events' and it appears that when i update an event from my phone, i get a notification.but when i update an event from my pc, my phone does not give me a notification.
