When I connect my phone to the computer and I double click on the external storage icon. I get the following message "Please insert a disk into a Removable disk", I thought that the contents of the sd card can be browsable. Is there something I am missing. My phone is as is from the store.

I have tried to connect my phone to my laptop and cant get it to work. Yes, I am using the original cable that came with my phone. I have the samsung drivers on there that I used to root. Could that be it? I have windows 7 I have turned on and off debugging, didnt work. It shows in my computer that I have "samsung android" but wont open or anything? I want to put music on it and take some off I downloaded.

1) i downloaded/installed the drivers
2) i unpackaged the rootkit onto the sdcard
3) i executed start_root.bat
4) the script(s) ran and the phone rebooted.
now, when i connect the phone to the computer (any computer) via usb, it isn't recognized. this is the main problem. i also downloaded rom manager, and it says i do not have root.
when i run start_root from the tutorial now:

I downloaded wireless tether, the newest version and the two previous versions. I install the apk using the fascinates file manager. The program appears to run fine on the phone, and says 0.4kb download and .1kb upload. I've used two different laptops, one with windows 7, and one with XP to try to connect to the phone. I can find Android Tether as an available network for both computers. However, when I click to connect, both computers cannot connect. When I perform a diagnostic test, windows reports there is a problem with the access point, but cannot fix it.

Using ES file explorer I was able to view system folders and found the system media files containing ringtones, notification tone, etc. However, I can not edit the files there or paste new files in there. I cannot find the system folder when I connect the fascinate to a computer. I tried showing "hidden files" but the folders still would not show up.
What I want to do is add my downloaded ringtones into the system media folder so that I can use those ringtones without having those ringtones appear in my music player. Another post tried to deal with this issue of the music player recognizing ringtones and notification tones, but no one could provide an actual solution to the problem. If I could move ringtones from the media folder on the SD to card to the media folder in the system folder, this would solve the problem.
Can anybody access the system folders in a manner that I can add files to the folders.
EDITED: PROBLEM SOLVED.
With the help given below, I came up with a solution, and have pasted instructions directly below.
Here are the steps I did in case any one else is interested.
Once your phone is rooted, it's pretty simple.
1)Download Root Explorer from the Market. Root explorer will give you the ability to edit folders/files that normally can't be edited, ie read and write permission as opposed to read only.
2)Using Root Explorer (make sure in top left of program it says "mounted as r/w"), copy any ringtone, notification file, .ogg file, .mp3 file, etc that you have made or downloaded, by selecting sdcard folder and navigating to the location of your tones, long pressing the file of interest, and select copy. (You can even long press on the folder and copy the whole folder of tones).
3)Still using Root Explorer, back out of the SD folder, and find the folder called "system". Navigate to system/media/audio/"ringtones" or "notifications" . Click the paste button at the bottom of the screen (which should have appeared as soon as you copied your file/folder). The file/folder will now be in your system's tone folder.
4)You must power down and power back up your phone before the phone will recognize these newly added tones.
5)Either delete the tone files from your SD card, or put a .nomedia file into the folder to remove them from the SF's media player.

The problem is that the "USB Debugging" mode must be on for PDANet to work and Windows XP and Windows 7 cannot load the proper USB driver to connect with the phone. If I turn off "USB Debugging" and the phone is set for "USB Storage" then I have no problem connecting to the phone. What must I do to get my computers to recognize my phone so I can use PDANet?

Also I can take pics but they do not save to the sd card our anywhere that I can find. I tried unmounting the cars but it stol does not recognize it. However, it does show my music like the card is mounted. It just seems to be a problem with the gallery.

1. You can access Panorama mode from the Scene menu in the top left. With Panorama mode... you will be guided by a green box, when you get close to take the next snapshot, move very slowly... especially when the green box is almost centered on your screen. This will produce better pictures with less blur.
2. Turn on Anti-shake and Auto-contrast in the settings menu. Turn on Grid if you'd like extra help with taking better photos.
3. Long press the shutter button to auto focus before taking the photo. It's a two-stage button that will take a little bit to auto focus, but it's better than not doing it before taking a photo.

I had a Moto Droid before my Fascinate, and I knew what to do there � turn on USB debugging, then drag down the status overlay and tell it to mount. Voila, drive appears on desktop. Here, though, I can't get that to work. I have debugging turned on, I've told the phone to mount the card over USB, but my Mac doesn't see it. This is a stock Fascinate, about two weeks old and not rooted. I', I've tried both USB ports on my computer, and that hasn't made any difference.

I had Easyteher on my phone prior to getting this one and worked good, it was working when first I hooked this phone up, it let me mount it to my computer and easytether worked fine. Then I don't know what happened. My computer doesn't see my phone anymore, and when I plug it into the computer is doesn't say "usb debugging connected" like it did before. Also when I pull down the notification bar and press menu it doesn't do anything. I thought that was how I mounted my phone before. The only thing that it does is charge the phone when I plug it in to the usb. I have tried on 3 computers, one using windows 7, Vista and XP, and not one of them worked. I seen that other people had this similar problem but I couldn't find an answer. My phone is not rooted either, please help me This is driving me nuts, I need to use my computer at work, and this is the only way I can get internet connection.

I tried to email myself a ring tone on my Fascinate and it comes through, gives you the option to preview it, but no option to save it to the sd card. Does anyone know how to do this? Then the phone ran fine.The problem I have is that I tried to format the sd card both by phone, and by computer. However the phone would freeze up if I insert the card, and my computer is unable to format the card. I tried going to controlpanel//administrative tools/computer management -> disk management, but it was unable to format the card.I even tried downloading something called an "sd formatter" however it appears as though my card is "not supported". I just got my Captivate this past weekend and love it so far. I came over from the HTC Aria so I am a little Android savvy. Question is this. I put a 2GB SD card in my Captivate and want to set one of the songs on it as a ringtone. I would also like for the external SD to be the default location for pictures when I take them. Been trying to figure out how to do this all day now and have a headache, so please forgive my aggravation. All I am trying to do is store a picture for each contact on my contact list. I can only find pictures stored taken directly from my phone camera. I cannot find any pictures stored on my SD card. Now, before I am told I need to hook up my Moment to a computer with the USB cable, every time I do that all that happens is the phone charges and neither the computer nor the phone recognize each other. I tried saving pictures and e-mailing them to myself, where I then tried saving them to the phone and the only way I could do that was through the SD card. I do not even know how to physically remove or add the SD card as there does not seem to be any openings on the phone itself for it. My laptop runs Windows XP. My question is: How do I access the saved pictures on my SD card AND how do I get my computer to recognize my phone if I need to use it to do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my eris yesterday since I don't have a NE2 available and I wanted to get away from WinMo, in any case, I can't access my SD card from my Eris. I downloaded Astro Manager, went to sd card, it says it is empty. I connected my phone to my PC via USB, mounted it as a drive, and I can access the SD card and contents without a problem. I can even use the photo album on the phone to look at pictures that are on the card.
When I go to settings > sd card and phone storage it displays total space and available space as being unavailable and the option to unmount the sd card is grayed out. Pressing the menu button on this screen doesn't do anything. Running 2.1, not rooted. I not interested in rooting the phone since I don't need the WiFi tethering and the stock apps aren't bothering me. The phone was connected to the PC and mounted. I couldn't see the card from the phone when it was mounted to the PC. Why?

I'm plugging my phone into my computer (Windows 7), but when I try to view sd card contents I am getting "Please insert disk" notification.
