General :: Access Phone Content When Using Travel SIM Card
Aug 25, 2013
how to ensure I can access all my APPs and Contact details when using a travel SIM in another country.
I live in AUS and will travel to SPAIN and ITALY, I will use a travel SIM purchased locally there (to keep costs down). Will my APPS still be visible on the phone and will they work? - ie will they still recognise me and have all my data, login details and preferences readily available.
If not, how should I prepare my phone (data card or whatever) so as to ensure I can get access to my APPS working correctly after I have inserted the new SIM. FYI, the phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 running jellybean.

I'm going to be traveling to S Korea and Japan next week. I'd like to use my DInc for wireless data when I have a wireless network available, but I don't want to get hit with any $100 roaming or international use fees. I think what I can do is turn airplane mode on while I'm abroad, and then enable wifi on top of airplane mode whenever I need it.

I just got my eris yesterday since I don't have a NE2 available and I wanted to get away from WinMo, in any case, I can't access my SD card from my Eris. I downloaded Astro Manager, went to sd card, it says it is empty. I connected my phone to my PC via USB, mounted it as a drive, and I can access the SD card and contents without a problem. I can even use the photo album on the phone to look at pictures that are on the card.
When I go to settings > sd card and phone storage it displays total space and available space as being unavailable and the option to unmount the sd card is grayed out. Pressing the menu button on this screen doesn't do anything. Running 2.1, not rooted. I not interested in rooting the phone since I don't need the WiFi tethering and the stock apps aren't bothering me. The phone was connected to the PC and mounted. I couldn't see the card from the phone when it was mounted to the PC. Why?

I have the HTC EVO 4G with a 16GB memory card inserted. I am almost out of space with my audio books etc so I was thinking of upgrading to a 32GB memory card. What is the best way to use the 32GB card with all the content currently on the 16GB card. Would using my CPU to hold the 16GB's data then copying to the 32GB card work?

When I connect my phone to the computer and I double click on the external storage icon. I get the following message "Please insert a disk into a Removable disk", I thought that the contents of the sd card can be browsable. Is there something I am missing. My phone is as is from the store.

I'm plugging my phone into my computer (Windows 7), but when I try to view sd card contents I am getting "Please insert disk" notification. It recognizes that I have it plugged in and it charges, but I can't access any of my phone files. I was able to do this 5 hours ago and since I've had this phone, this has never happened before. Before when I plugged my phone in I instantly got a pop up asking if I want to see files, but now I can't even access them without that. No idea where this new problem just came from.

I'm working on a port, and I got it booting up everything working great.
Except I cannot access my SD card at all. I can't take screenshots or use apps that need the SD card either.
And my SD card is not full. I still have 2 gigs left.
Also, when I press storage in settings, the app crashes.
And I ported the ROM from the MyTouch4G Slide to the MyTouch4G.
Or have I missed some SD card file or something... myTouch 4g.

I have a MX2 Android TV Box and flashed it with Linux software, then I flashed Matricom firmware Android), running 4.2.2.When I try to access the SD card in recovery mode it doesn't allow me to do this - Apply from EXT, update from SD card, then it's blank. I've formatted several times and confirmed the files are there but they don't show in recovery.
When I open Winzip/File manager on the box I can see my files there. I want to flash the box again back to Linux but can't from SD because the files won't show up. I'm not sure what to do with 'Update from ADB', (is this an option)?. I've since been told that in Matricom System Recovery (3e) it is stock so wont let me flash anything else.I want to restore the box on Linux, I dont mind about losing anything as ive got everything backed up.

I installed a 32 GB micro SD card into my Samsung Galaxy SII. My device appears to recognize it in Settings | Storage since it shows Total space for the SD card as "29.71GB". However, I cannot figure how to browse to the card nor how to move files to it from within the Android OS. From within the My Files app, I cannot change directories from what appears to be the built-in memory since the "Up" icon is grayed out.
How do I access the microSD card by browsing to it and moving files to it?

I want to access the messages stored in in box through my android project. I have tried the method of forming URI for sms (content://sms/ in box) and then querying it for various parameters. But I cannot find any documentation for reading in box sms in the standard Android Develop Docs. It was mentioned at various websites that this content has been removed from the standard sdk. The application may not support higher version of android.

I am trying to play a ringtone that is specified as the Default system ringtone. Unfortunately when i get the actual URI I get the above (content://drm/audio/2) and then when I try to play it, I hear the fallback ringtone - the one that you'd hear if the default was unavailable.
Ringtones appear to get this URI when downloaded through sites such as Myxer and the like.
Now it seems that when the default ringtone is on the SD card under a folder called 'ringtones' I do not run into this problem.
I have tried to add the line:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_DRM" />
...to the manifest but that doesn't seem to work either.
If anyone has an idea as how I would be able to play this ringtone, I would be eternally grateful! I have been researching this and I can't seem to find anywhere any documentation on how to do this.

We are trying to access bytes in non-sequential order from a 'content:' URI that we receive in the intent from other applications. Is there a way to do this, without buffering the bytes within the application?
We found a discussion about the same from 2008 at: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/49a1b7d651d4707e Is it possible now?

I'm seeing a strange issue on a phone and I'm trying to come up with a way to troubleshoot it to find out more.
Is it possible to access the X-Mms-Content-Location attribute of a message from a MMS message programatically, using the Android SDK?
This is one example of the error that I am investigating. If I can access that attribute, then I may be able to code an app which repairs it so the message retrieval succeeds.

Just found out that I don't need content providers if I don't need to share data with other applications. But since the examples I've seen all use content providers, I'm not sure how to proceed without them and populate activities with data derived from accessing my application's database directly.

I found that if I want to use the searchable options using the search key I have to create a content provider. Content provider is used to share data across applications.
But I do not want to allow access to my content provider (as well as my data) except/outside my own application. I want to use it only for search suggestion. Because my app data is kind of restricted.
Is there any way to implement local search without content provider? OR is is possible to apply restriction so that except my own app no other app can use my content provider?
