Vertically between the at&t logo and the handset speaker and to the left, there are 2 cutouts of the black trim behind the screen plastic/surface. They almost look like LEDs (although I realize they aren't, or shouldnt be). You can see them in the owners manual pics but they arent labeled on their diagram, and I can't figure out what they are.

I using launcher pro and trying to go with a minimalistic looking setup. I have battstat and digital clock running on my front page and I would like a nice weather widget. I have seen some on other peoples screens but can't seem to find the right one. I tried beautiful Widgets but had too much going on. Basically what I want is a small weather widget that fits in the corner of the screen with a transparent background? Any suggestions?

Not that I haven't mess with them before but I found it strange. Also got a small screen that popped up once when I went into applications saying Sim on/off with the choices to click ok or cancel. I'm baffled. Any help would be appreciated. Might just walk into AT&T for a replacement...

I notice that when the phone is fresh off a reboot, it has somewhere in the neighboorhood 140-145mb or free memory, but after 10-12 hours of the phone being on it down to the 60s. At this point the UI lag is much more prevalent.I don't mind rebooting the phone once or twice a day, but I was wondering if there are any other alternatives

View 14 Replies View RelatedHow exactly is the speaker on the Samsung Captivate? I'm with an iPhone 2G and I think things sound louder with headsphones+max volume than the iPhone's speaker. Like, the only way I can hear a song outloud with a few others is if we're not near anyone or anywhere outside or making any noise. I mean, it's the most fail I've probably seen on phone in terms of a speaker. That being said, I'm hoping the Captivate has a decent speaker?
Also, durability? I've dropped my iPhone 2G at least, with no exaggeration, 30 times, and yeah, it's holding up. Backs filled with more scratches than anything, the bottom plastic is starting to tear up a little, but other than that, it's working and not broken. Will I survive with the Captivate?
I'm going to be trialing the iPhone 4 for a month or so via my dad and his workplace's offer, and yeah, within the next month, I'm going Captivate or i4...Hopefully, works well, since I've only stayed a year with almost all of my phones (except the iPhone 2G, which was three years =0...gotta love that app store). I'm really hoping Samsung comes out with some GPS fix, too, because my directions fail and I'm hoping to substitute my phone for a GPS...I've managed to work with it on the iPhone 2G via cell tower positioning/wi-fi+google maps for now, but yeah, I don't think I'd like a phone that shows me on the wrong street.
Anyone use Google Apps Sync? What exactly does it sync, how, and is it free? Is it possible to sync Outlook contact and calendar with the Captivate? I know this has been asked several times but one really seems to know a definite answer.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI was looking at the Captivate and the iphone4 in store today and when comparing the same web pages in full page view the text on the Captivate was much smaller than the iphone4, even though the iphone screen is smaller. Zoom just made everything bigger so it wasn't in full page anymore. Is there a way to make the text bigger while in full page view? On a side note, that iphone4 screen is super sharp for text and the whites were much whiter vs the blueish tint on the Captivate.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm really not crazy about this phone after playing with it the other day at the at&t store. The earpiece speaker volume is VERY low. Reception drops like a cinder block, from holding it pretty much anywhere. Its pretty chuggy, and i'm not very confident about support from the community. that being said, there are a lot of nice things about the phone. Howerver, one thing it HAS to have, is HSUPA. I tried to do an upload test, but i couldnt find any sites that worked. And i didnt know if here was an app i could get, plus the market wasnt set up.

Ugly colors, minimal layout, contact picture too small, etc... On my second one the sound was much less apparent but it was still kind of there. Its been about a week now and I believe it is now just as bad as the first one I had. Are these speakers really blown or just really crappy quality?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDuring a video hangout, the audio randomly switches from "speakerphone" mode to handset mode. The video itself is fine. The other person's audio will get really quiet because it's coming from the handset speaker, and they will complain that they can't hear me anymore.
After this happens, I can manually hit the speaker button and choose the option to use the Speaker rather than Handset mode, and the problem fixes itself. However, the fix usually lasts less than a couple minutes. Within 1-3 minutes it will change back to handset mode. This happens even if the phone is sitting down on the table during the hangout and I'm not interacting with it and there's no chance for me to inadvertently press a button or cover up the proximity sensor.
I'm using an EVO LTE with a stock ROM w/ root if matters.
My captivate external speaker plays music while I'm listening to the headphones, am I missing a setting to turn this off? Shouldn't the phone's external speaker not be playing music while I'm using my headphones? Sometimes the external speaker will remain silent while my headphones are working (as I would imagine should be the case) until I receive a text message, and then the external speaker will play music along with the headphones. Anyone think this could be a problem with my device? My 30 day period expires on Sept.5 so I am wondering if I should return it for an exchange?

But my questions are in regards to the text entry boxes and the browser. In the browser where you go to type the URL, there is a MIC button, right? If I press that, what voice search does it use? Does the stock browser use Bing Voice Search? Would I need a different browser to be able to utilize Google Voice Search within my browser? Same with sending text messages, emails... anywhere there is a text entry box. Do these boxes that pop up the keyboard and present you with a MIC button use Bing Voice or Google Voice to enter the text?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded (through tmobile) from a G1 (which I had since launch date, and loved until it just became too slow and all support ended) three weeks ago. I went to the tmobile store, and checked out the options. I LOVED the Vibrant, but I had some concerns over it's apparent "flimsieness"... the sales rep assured me that it only felt breakable, and that the Gorilla Glass screen and other features of the construction made it just as durable as all other phones. So, I got it.
I love it, still.
Thing is, last night, I picked it up off my desk, and it would not unlock. When I looked closer, I could see a small crack running under the screen. The phone has never been dropped, never been hit with any impact... nothing. It has never been out of my possession, never been water damaged... nothing. But, now, it has this cracked screen and won't unlock, won't do anything. Plus, now this morning it is showing a completely pink screen.
Of course, I know these (and all tiny little smartphones) are fragile. I have insurance for that very reason. If I break my phone, I am more than willing to pay the $130 through insurance to replace it. But, I do not feel like I (or anyone else, for that matter) broke this thing. The most impact it has had on the screen is button use on the touchscreen. If this thing is going to do this as a result of normal (actually, probably lighter-than-normal) use, I feel like it is insane for tmobile to expect me to pay for the claim. I do not think it is reasonable to ask a customer to pay $130 for a new phone 3 weeks into owning it, when it has not been damaged due to any human error or damage.
I had a Ghost Armor protector on it, and it was in a plastic protective shell, and it shows NO signs of damage beyond the messed up screen. I feel like that, coupled with the GPS thing (the awesome GPS was the second main selling point the sales rep spouted, after the Gorilla Glass screen!) and the fact that tmobile inexplicably removed my unlimited text option ("accidentally" according to them), should mean something to someone.
So, any ideas for options here? Is there ANY chance that I can tmobile's warranty people to regard this as a warranty issue and not an insurance issue? I do not want to be $400 into a new phone after just 3 weeks, especially with no solid GPS, no Froyo, and the other issues. I have been with tmobile for 5 years, and always justified it by their good customer service; so how can i get that customer care to work for ME now?
Thought some people may be interested in how to get JAR/JAD files running on their Samsung Moment (this should work for most Android devices, but I've been running on my Moment). I also don't think that all JAR/JAD programs convert; but so far most mine have...
1. With your JAD & JAR files, go to: Get APK and convert to an APK file
2. Save your APK file onto your SD card
3. Download AppManager (one word) or comparable program that allows you to install from your SD card
4. Install Java J2ME Runner App
5. Using AppManager, install the created apk file from your SD card
Your file should be found both in your main folder; as well as in the J2ME's "App Manager". You may need to play with the configuration to get the program to fit alright. I have Auto detect Game Canvas clicked; but have had to change it for a few games.It's not perfect, but it seems to work alright with some of my old java games.
I have an unlocked samsung behold 2 on stock firmware/rom never been rooted. However, im currently using it with the att service. I have a activated prepaid tmobile sim card that i have been trying to use to get the behld update but I've had no luck. I've tried the force update posted in this thread but it did not work for me. I've also called tmobile and samsung and all they could tell me was that updates are sent out Monday nights so ive had my phone on with more than fifty percent battery and tmobile sim in every monday night. I really need this update can anyone help?

It has to be very dark and you have to look closely and tilth phone upward. It doesn't bug me but i just wanted to share with you guys.
