Samsung Vibrant :: Small Light Leakage On Top Of Home Button
Nov 21, 2010
I have a samsung vibrant and so does my aunt. I barely noticed that both of hours have a very small light leakage on top of the home button. Is this a wide spread problem. It has to be very dark and you have to look closely and tilth phone upward. It doesn't bug me but i just wanted to share with you guys.

So I did an exchange today hoping for the magical GPS fix. Instead, I got a phone where the home button works maybe 10% of the time I tap it. Anyone else having this issue? I'm going to exchange this one tomorrow.

Okay, the light leakage is coming from the LED lights behind the 4 touch buttons on the bottom of the phone, correct? Perhaps someone could write an app for rooted phone (I'm guessing it would have to be rooted) and it would simply turn the LEDs off. I know I don't need lights behind the buttons to know which ones are which in the dark. We have 3 EVOs, mine has the half blown speaker and the other two, which got barely any usage this last week both have the screen problems. So all 3 are going back to Sprint for replacements I guess.

Has anyone tried returning their evo to a sprint store due to light leakage?I noticed it last night for the first time and you can see that the bottom part of the screen is raised about the bezel while the top screen is recessed.I had to exchange my wifes EVO because it went all haywire on us and even though it went haywire with the rep, it wasnt any fun at the sprint store so i'm worried about how hard its going to be to exchange mine for this problem. Are Sprint employees aware of the situation for the most part?

I see so many "issues" here, and not enough praise for this phone. Am I the only one with a perfectly fine phone? The only "issue" I can see myself having is I have slight light leakage on my phone, but I don't even notice it because of the case. I've used it a few times without the case, and it didn't even bother me that much. That is the only hardware "issue" i seem to have. Everything else is perfect.
I am using CM6, and have had nothing but love and praise for Froyo.
Love my EVO, and so glad I made the switch (permanently) to Android. (ex iPhone user)

Before everyone tries the hair dryer / clamp method (which seems like a working solution), how about just screwing down the torx screws inside the Evo? This simple step completely solved my light leakage - zero now. I used a T5 driver and now the screen is held super snug to the frame. You can find Torx screw sets for about online: Amazon.com: SE 6 Piece Delux Torx Driver Kit w/Storage Case T5-T10: Automotive.

I have some light leakage from the ports on the bottom of the phone. It only happens when the capacitive buttons are lit. The screen seems solid, not separating from case. Will this eventually lead to dust under the screen or not an issue to worry about?

I have been loving my new X and have experienced zero issues with it until tonight. I noticed that there's light leakage around the volume buttons, where the top and bottom components connect. As I trace around the edges, everywhere seems to fine except at that one connection point. Now I'm really concerned that my phone has a physical defect and may need to be exchanged. Has anyone else noticed this? Should I be concerned and get an exchange? I'm really bummed that my phone may have a problem.

I've had a HTC Evo now for 2/3 weeks, and I love it! But over the last few days it's started to act funny....
What it's doing is lets say I unlock the phone and have it laying on my desk, in the past it would show the screen in portrait orientation....but over the lat 2/3 days its been jumping to landscape and I have to pick up the phone, tilt it to get it back to portrait, and if I lay it back down it will go back to landscape.
This is mainly annoying when checking emails/texts/etc, but also if I am on the train and holding it near my waste, depending on the angle it will bounce back and forth from portrait to landscape!
I originally did a reformat when I bought it, and I am going to do it again shortly to see if that helps....just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if it's fixable (and yes i do want auto rotation)....
My phone has a few other problems such as minor light leakage, and a dead pixel (which I was going to look past and keep the phone)...so if this is something wrong with the hardware it would be a pretty good reason to get a replacement within my 30 days....

I upgraded (through tmobile) from a G1 (which I had since launch date, and loved until it just became too slow and all support ended) three weeks ago. I went to the tmobile store, and checked out the options. I LOVED the Vibrant, but I had some concerns over it's apparent "flimsieness"... the sales rep assured me that it only felt breakable, and that the Gorilla Glass screen and other features of the construction made it just as durable as all other phones. So, I got it.
I love it, still.
Thing is, last night, I picked it up off my desk, and it would not unlock. When I looked closer, I could see a small crack running under the screen. The phone has never been dropped, never been hit with any impact... nothing. It has never been out of my possession, never been water damaged... nothing. But, now, it has this cracked screen and won't unlock, won't do anything. Plus, now this morning it is showing a completely pink screen.
Of course, I know these (and all tiny little smartphones) are fragile. I have insurance for that very reason. If I break my phone, I am more than willing to pay the $130 through insurance to replace it. But, I do not feel like I (or anyone else, for that matter) broke this thing. The most impact it has had on the screen is button use on the touchscreen. If this thing is going to do this as a result of normal (actually, probably lighter-than-normal) use, I feel like it is insane for tmobile to expect me to pay for the claim. I do not think it is reasonable to ask a customer to pay $130 for a new phone 3 weeks into owning it, when it has not been damaged due to any human error or damage.
I had a Ghost Armor protector on it, and it was in a plastic protective shell, and it shows NO signs of damage beyond the messed up screen. I feel like that, coupled with the GPS thing (the awesome GPS was the second main selling point the sales rep spouted, after the Gorilla Glass screen!) and the fact that tmobile inexplicably removed my unlimited text option ("accidentally" according to them), should mean something to someone.
So, any ideas for options here? Is there ANY chance that I can tmobile's warranty people to regard this as a warranty issue and not an insurance issue? I do not want to be $400 into a new phone after just 3 weeks, especially with no solid GPS, no Froyo, and the other issues. I have been with tmobile for 5 years, and always justified it by their good customer service; so how can i get that customer care to work for ME now?

Is it just me, or does the phone have LED indicator lights directly to the left of the ear speaker? You have to look pretty hard, but I believe those are LED lights. If they aren't lights, what the hell are they?

They're barely noticeable only when there is a black background on the screen and the bottom four buttons are lit- then light will shine through the dead pixels....but when the home buttons deactivate after 4 seconds, the shine through the dead pixels are gone.

I've been playing around with my Vibrant and just lowered the number of pages the Home screen has. Doing this, however, changed the page that comes up when I hit the actual "Home" button. It's becoming very annoying and switching the order of the pages around by dragging them in the Edit mode hasn't helped. It even sometimes chooses the very right-most, completely blank page to be the default home one. How can I assign which of the Home pages I want to pop up when that button is hit?

I've had this phone since release day, and I've never had the need to press this button. I wish it was the power button instead so much because right now it's just taking up physical space for no reason.

I just got the vibrant about a week ago, and so far no major issues. Still fumbling around in the apps market for the good stuff. One thing I found annoying was having to press the power/unlock button and then swiping the screen to unlock the phone every time, is there anything in the market or some setting to avoid pressing the button and just swiping the screen or possibly using the touch buttons on the front of the phone then swiping?

I use it all of the time for voice commands. "Call so and so"... I am frustrated. I really don't want to do ANOTHER hard reset. It's such a pain to get everything customized again... Ringtones especially. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on how to fix it besides resetting it? I tried a soft reset to no avail.
