Samsung Captivate : WIFI "unable To Start"
Oct 28, 2010Anyone having this problem?
View 1 RepliesAnyone having this problem?
View 1 RepliesIt happened to me last night on the Captivate. I tried battery pulls, deleting the WiFi nets, etc., but it still kept turning WiFi off within a minute of turning it on. I did a factory reset (I'm getting better at this process. Can restore my device back to its former glory within an hour).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect to my home wifi, its WEP security on a linksys router, but every time i try to connect it says unable to connect, also idk if there is supposed to be a wifi icon on the top bar but it does not show one at all, appreciate any feedback
View 4 Replies View Relatedphones worked good other then gps issue. recently after iv had the phone for 30 days it just stopped scanning for wifi access and wont turn on wifi at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got the samsung captivate for AT&T a couple of weeks ago and have run into a few problems with it:
1) Wifi worked great for a while, but now it says unable to scan for networks and turns the wifi off...this wouldn't be too bad if I had a big data plan but I do not.
2) Battery Life...fml
3) I cannot find ANYWHERE any supporting software to sync media files with my PC
4) The drivers will not install on my computer
5) Way too many apps are using data without me even opening them (navigation, yahoo mail etc...) I have AdvAppKiller but that gets old
It is wonderful having such a wonderful, fast device with 16 gb of memory, but these shortcomings are making me realize why I enjoyed a flip phone for so long.
Well i have bought 2 month ago new, sim free Legend. After that i had like 2 firmware updates, and well after the second one i cant get wifi working. Its like "unable to start wifi" and after that i cant switch this process off, it shows "unable to turn wifi off". So to get rid of this i need to restart phone. So now i cant use wifi. I cant even turn off wifi notification, i don't see MAC address etc. Are there ways to fix that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to have an intermittent error when trying to start WiFi. Mostly (>95%) of the time I get "unable to start WiFi". Occasionally it works but this is rare and usually when it has been switched off for a few days. The problem occurs when I try to start via the wi-fi widget or via the MenuSettingsWireless controls path. I'm reluctant to do a factory reset unless I really have no other option.
HTC Hero
on Vodafone UK
Firmware version 1.5
Build# 2.73.405.5
I have a Orange (UK) Desire which i have gold carded and unbranded with no problems.
Software info below
Firm Ver 2.1-update 1
Baseband 32.30.00.28u_4.05.00.11
Kernel version 2.6.29-97da29ed
htc-kernel@and18-2#1
Build Number 1.15.405.3 CL150129 release-keys
Software number 1.15.405.3
Browser Webkit 3.1
There is now a software update available (1.15.405.4) which i have tried to install OTA it all works except it says unable to start WIFI. I have tried to install it with both my Goldcard and normal SD card (not sure if that would make any difference)
I'm getting this problem where I can connect to WiFi the first time with no problem but once I disconnect and the phone sleeps, it can't connect to the network again and says "Unable to Start WiFi", I can't even get to Wireless settings because it can't start the WiFi.
It's the same story with Bluetooth. It'll work once.
If I turn the phone off and then on again, it will work once more but only ONCE before doing the same thing again.
I have just installed Donut version 1.6 on my HTC Dream. The install went smoothly. But when I try to start my WiFi I get the "unable to start wifi" message. Never had a problem in 1.5. I see wpa_supplicant doesn't have access to others, I tried changing the permissions of the directories and wpa_supplicant.conf file to 777 but they keep getting set back again so that other doesn't have access. Do I need to set up a special user?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI rooted my Captivate tonight and I know how the superuser icon with android skull and crossbones. However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought a used unlocked Vodafone HTC Magic off of ebay, and got it setup with my Local GSM just fine. I can make calls, and receive texts no problem. Since I dont want a Data plan, I plan on relying on wifi for gmail services and whatnot. My problem is this. I cant get on wifi. When I go to settings>wireless controls> Wifi at the top says "Unable to start Wi-Fi" And no matter how many times I click it, it just wont start. When I go into Wi-Fi settings, "Add Wi-Fi network" is grayed out, and I cant add one. When I press the menu button while in that menu and select "Scan" It doesnt do anything, just goes away. Any ideas guys? I really want to get this phone working to its full potential.

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently got the Captivate- What are the best apps to start downloading? I need something for office documents. Some free games and things like that.
View 24 Replies View RelatedMy battery is not very good and have to use task advance to turn them off all the time. I notice everytime I turn on the phone a bunch of app also start such as messenger, paypal, voice, fring etc.. so the first thing I do after turn the phone on was using task advance to kill all those apps. Is there a way to prevent them from auto start?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I understand there are known issues with the Market getting stuck at "Starting Download" but here's my problem. I removed GoogleTalk which seems to be the route of the issue and now I can't seem to get it back. Also, ever since then I get the following error message upon booting: "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. dumpstate_app_201008021101_com_google_process_gapp s.log has been saved. Use *#9900# to copy out log." I'd rather not have to factory reset since I'm already rooted and was just getting things the way I liked them.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIs this possible? Many times my phone is in a holding frame of some kind (cars) and the button on the side isnt easily accessed. Is there an app or a way that a simple tap on the screen can activate the phone instead of requiring pushing the button on the side?

View 7 Replies View RelatedBasically, something happened, my phone's battery died, and as usual,I just switched in a new battery, turned it on, it went to the splash screen, the glowing S.and then turned off.I tried to charge the phone, that didn't work.I thought the battery might just be dead, so I charged it over night, but nope. After I put a battery in, it does it's usual swoooshhh noise, turns on, S glows, then turns off. Then it won't turn on again until I take out the battery, put it back in, after which I turn on and the same thing again. Just for more information, the screen sticks on the glowing S for a reallllyyy long time, and it doesn't go through the "Turning off" animation anymore either. What's weird is I didn't even do anything at all with it this past week, other than play Angry Birds, call/text some people, and use the alarm on it.No idea what went wrong at all.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I never had any problems before when I first rooted. But now I can't access some games, setcpu, one click lag fix, titanium backup (which I want to, so I have an extra backup) and a few other programs.
It is always superuser giving this Sorry! Message:

What do I have to do to fix this? It keeps happening and I can't do what I want on my phone. Do I need to install a program to fix it? Or do the odin ROM load to stock and reroot it?
for the past 2 weeks, everytime i go to the market to upgrade my apps, it doesn't upgrade. it says the app is "starting download" but nothing...also, the notification bar is showing that anything is being downloaded.i also cant download any apps from the market as well...

View 28 Replies View RelatedAlright, I am trying to root a friend's captivate but am unable to get to the recovery screen no matter what I do. We have tried every variation of keys. I have held the power, vup and vdown and let go of the power as soon as we see Att.I have held them all for minutes at a time. We have tried holding one or the other volume keys. No recovery screen.I have also tried using the "one-click" option provided over at xda.I installed the correct drivers, turned on USB Debug, and got no where with the program.I shows that it pushes the "update.zip" file to the sdcard, but does not reboot the phone into recovery to give me the opportunity to apply the update. My friend has tried a couple of different market root options...one called lagfix of something like that.It was a no go either.
