Nexus :: Setting Ringtones To Contacts?
Jan 13, 2010I got my Nexus a few days ago and now i seem to have found my first problem with it.You apparently cant assign ringtones to contacts.I have a g1 so I know how to do it on there but the option is no longer there on the Nexus one. Am I missing something or does it just not allow it anymore.If not does anyone know an application that will allow me to do this?

Jun 2, 2010SMS Popup works on 2.2 -- but the setting to increase the speed doesn't work. The color changes work (note, they don't work on the app's own test function, you have to send yourself a text), which I love, but I had to uninstall after realizing that the speed increase doesn't work.

Nov 29, 2010How would one go about doing this with a Droid 2? I'm trying to add them so I can set ringtones for individual contacts, so when they call, I know who is calling me. I have tones already picked out and saved to my Gmail account. I thought I would be able to set them from there, but it turns out that's not possible. I used to be able to do this on my LG Chocolate.I had sent the tones I wanted using a service called Mobile17.

Mar 26, 2010I recently set a custom notification ringtone to alert me when I receive a new text message. The ringtone sits in my SD card under the folder "Notifications". Sometimes, I will get a text and my phone will vibrate and pulse light, but the notification ringtone will not be heard. When this happens, I go to Menu>Settings>Sound & display>Notification ringtone and then reselect my ringtone. What will happen on most occasions is as soon as I tap the ringtone I want to set, it will not sample the sound file and the menu will freeze and force close. What happens after this usually involves some cursing and a reboot. Why is my phone forgetting my notification ringtone selection? Why does it force close like that and how can I prevent this? If it makes any difference in your diagnosis, I am rooted.

Jan 25, 2010I normally set up call forwarding from my home phone number to my cell phone by speed-dialing a special sting of numbers from my cell phone. Once the computer on the other side answers, the cell phone sends all the correct codes, including the number where I wish my forwarded calls to go.With my newly bought HTC Hero (Sprint), this doesn't seem to work, because the automatically dialed tones are much too fast and too short. I've tried putting a "P" (for pause) between each digit, but it doesn't help.Other cell phones provide way to select between short and long tones, but apparently the Hero does not.Is there a way to slow down the dialing string so that it can be read by the phone company's computer? Obviously, I could manually key in each digit, but that's really not a good solution.

May 1, 2010Does anyone know of a setting or app that will prevent one-touch dialing? Many times when scrolling through a contact list i have accidentally tapped a contact and the phone immediately starts dialing.
Ideally I'd like to have the phone not dial until i hit "send" confirming that i do indeed want to place a call. Any way to do this?

The next most relevant aspect is the ISO setting, but the Android SDK does not have a way to manipulate it. May 25, 2010My wife's stock 1.5 Eris got the 2.1 update the other day. Since then she cannot setup her speed dials. It goes through like it works, but there are still no speed dials in the list. I cleared cache and data from Dialer and the two People apps in the manager, but it hasn't resolved it. VZW support last night had me do a battery pull, but that also didn't help.
So other than the Factory Reset option, is there anything I can do? Are there any apps specific to Speed Dials? I'd like to avoid the reset at all costs, if possible.
Nexus :: Dialing Options / Scroll Contacts To Find Correct Person?
Feb 23, 2010Having come from an HTC Hero I am struggling with my dialing options? Previously if I wanted to dial Martin I could just tap 627 on the keypad and the option was there.
Now with the Nexus one do I really have to scroll through all my contacts to find the correct person? Surely this is very laborious and slow.
Making a speed dial seems a bit silly as well as there are so many people in my contact list.
So any suggestions?

When I navigate to the MP3 that I want as my ringtone, I tap the menu button to find the "Set as" option, but that option seems to have been removed altogether! Am I missing something here, or have AT&T and/or Samsung decided that we're not allowed to set our personal MP3's as ringtones and therefore are forced to either do without, or buy them from wherever? Pretty much like "locale" does for position, but tied to WiFi availability. The idea is that I can turn off e-mail alarms/notifies when I'm at home/work where I have a PC anyway (WiFi of home/work is detected) while automatically having them turned on when I leave the house (no wifi anymore).

How do we set a text message ringtone? When we text, all we get is a goofy little chime and the phones vibrate. I'll never hear that thing in my purse.I went to settings>notifications and set a soundbite I want to use after transferring it to the media>notifications folder, and when I get e-mails, it worked. But not for texting.
Also, what forum do I use for the double time? What is rooting, and do we need to do it? We got the phones through AT&T and they work fine so far. Also, we have wifi at home- does that still count against our 3g plan when we're using that to access the market while trying to figure this out?

Jan 28, 2010I've been tethering my N1 with PDAnet and have been very unimpressed with the speed. I haven't done a speed test yet but it is noticeably slower than when I used to tether my Sprint BB Tour. BTW, it shows 3G and all four bars of reception. Oct 16, 2010I have a custom boot animation on my phone that I downloaded and it works but I would like to show it down a little bit. It runs through the animation really fast. If it was a little short it would be great. If I go into the boot animation.zip there are two files. One is a file that just has a few numbers in it the other is a bunch of pictures. Does that number file determine the speed it displays those pictures?
