HTC Magic :: Not Working On Wifi
Jul 3, 2009
I got my HTC magic yesterday when i was away from home, I home earlier today and thought i would get the phone setup on my wireless, the phone detects every other network in my area except mine. I am currently writing this on my laptop via the wireless connection and it is detected by another pc wirelessly and my old N95 8Gb, its not out of signal as i have tried it almost sat on the router. I have checked through the routers setup and cannot see any settings that are wrong or would effect this.

I have a HTC Dream, and I don't think the GPS is working correctly. When I open google maps and tell it to find my location, it just tells what the general area I am in is. It does not pin point my location. I have other apps on my phone That need the GPS to work this way, and pin point my location to within 2m. I have installed the Radar app, but I think it is doing anything. If someone can let me know what I need to do to make my phone work the way I want it to please let me know. I'm sure it is probably an app I need to install, but I just don't know which one.

Very often I can't connect my HTC Magic to WiFi ruuter, although my MacBook connects to WiFi without any problems. In WI-FI networks I see: "Connection unsuccessful, select to try again" How can I debug this problem, there should be logs stored somewhere.

I have internet blox on my htc magic. It means unlimited internet in my country. This summer, I am going on holiday in an other country. They probably have a WiFi connection on the camping. Now my question is: does it cost me money if I use that wifi connection? Or do I get a warning or so when I am paying for the internet?

I have my new Magic and it works awesomely at the office, my wife's office, my inlaw's router, coffee shop routers.no problem.I take it home, where my 2 laptops, Wii, Palm and Zune all connect and work no problem. So all parts of the magic equation of me getting WiFi at home (thus saving my data plan from racking up huge bills) are a go, except it's not.I have a DLink 614+, and it'll see it, try to connect then say 'unsuccessful'. I've tried rebooting both items, changing the security options on the router etc... but to no avail. HTC Support says it could be something with THAT specific router, but they have exhausted their support binder.Short of swapping out the router with my inlaws, or buying a new one ('cuz then I'd have to change 2 laptops, a Wifi, Palm and a Zune), anybody have any suggestions to make this router work with my Magic?

I have been having problems trying toget my HTC Magic to "see" my network. Is there anyway to have my WiFi network setup as the priority network, so that when I arrive home, the phone will connect?

I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now

I'm experiencing some strange phenomenon on my HTC Magic. I have disabled my 3G, so I only use 2G networks.
But on random times, not very often, I suddenly get a message, saying I have new unread Gmail email. When I look at my Gmail inbox, my inbox is totally up to date! I think this is very strange, because I had 3G and WIFI disabled when I retreived these mails. Can Gmail email be retreived via the 2G network? As far as I know, email can not be retrieved via GPRS or other 2G network.

I own my HTC Magic for only few days till now, but there is one problem what really makes me angry. I bought this phone mainly for having good and comfortable access to the internet. So, all websites are working good on default browser, except one - pinnaclesports.com. When I try to enter there, it says error:
The application Browser (process com.android.browser) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
And I have only 1 option to choose - Force close.
The same happens on Dolphin. Opera is working good with pinnaclesports website, but to be honest I don't like Opera, I definetely prefer default browser.
I've been trying almost everything. I did wipe and even changed interface from standard to Sense UI (which IMO is worse than normal interface) and I still get the same error.

Just two quick questions: When connected to wifi, do internet connections made on the device automatically go via wifi as opposed to 3g etc and if not then is there a way to organize which wireless connection 'methods' have higher priority (i am worried about excessive data costs). Second question is: Is there any multi tasking support on the Magic and if so then how do you switch between applications?

I'm the proud owner of the HTC Magic on Vodafone UK. I'm loving the Android.I have to say that after 5 days of owning this device I'm only left scratching my head on one point the auto-orientation of the home screen.I've seen videos of rooted G1's running the hacked 1.5 firmware and the recently posted video of the Samsung i7500 with the 1.5 firmware all CLEARLY show that when the device is on home screen, the desktop (read home screen) auto-rotates depending on the orientation of the device. The Samsung video shows it working in ALL FOUR orientations! This doesn't happen on my Magic . Flip the orientation in an application? Works fine. Flip it back in an application? Works fine. Do it on the home screen?Am I missing something? Is this a feature that is disabled in the offical 1.5 Cupcake release? If that's the case - fine with me. I'll stop scratching my head and move on.

the screen has stopped locking. When i press the end call button the phone sleeps but the screen doesnt lock. I do have the 'require pattern' etc selected in the settigs, so it should work. it used to work, can anyone tell me how to get it back? spare parts doesnt work. Also, When i press and hold the end call button, the only option that appears is 'power off'. It used to say flight mode and silent mode too. Finally it appears that my phone will not receive calls. texts and outgoings fine, but no calls any help really would help, and i would like to avoid doing a hard reset.

I got a HTC magic a couple of months ago and have had nothing but problems, first i discovered it wouldnt play youtube clips, it just comes up "this video cannot be played" for every clip.
HTC told me to update the ROM but my phone wouldnt detect HTC sync on my laptop (winxp) eventually they told me to force it into boot mode which worked and I've updated the ROM, but it still isnt playing youtube clips and I've trawled every android site I could find for a solution. But I did find alot of other people with android phones and the same problem.
I talked to HTC and they have apprently (after trying to solve this issue for at least a month and a half) reffered it to their head tech office in Thailand (Thailand? *shrug*) and they're working in conjunction with techs here in Australia and USA to figure out what the problem is, they say they will call me when they have a solution, when they do I'll post it here for all the others that have this same problem.
Also, has anyone else had the prob that after the ROM update, app's like 'rings extended' wont work, I've tried several app's like it and none work, just comes up 'rings extended could not be launched'. and in android systems it says there is no defaults set. I'm at a loss.

I bought a used unlocked Vodafone HTC Magic off of ebay, and got it setup with my Local GSM just fine. I can make calls, and receive texts no problem. Since I dont want a Data plan, I plan on relying on wifi for gmail services and whatnot. My problem is this. I cant get on wifi. When I go to settings>wireless controls> Wifi at the top says "Unable to start Wi-Fi" And no matter how many times I click it, it just wont start. When I go into Wi-Fi settings, "Add Wi-Fi network" is grayed out, and I cant add one. When I press the menu button while in that menu and select "Scan" It doesnt do anything, just goes away. Any ideas guys? I really want to get this phone working to its full potential.

this morning when I wake up I realized that:
- home button is not working
- call button is not working unless you're into the contacts application (doesn't work from home page)
- Astrid application has lost all of the TODO tasks.
- It doesn't asks for the unlock graphical code!
It lost all of its battery yesterday night while surfing on the browser. My phone is an HTC MAgic Vodafone, using Android 1.6 Any ideas on how should i proceed? I soft reset the phone already.

It stopped working about two weeks ago. I've been using this ROM and JIT for several months. I can't connect to my or any other wireless network. It says "obtaining address" and never goes anywhere after there. setting a static IP would fix it, but I'd like to get to the root (pun) of the problem.

I searched but didn't find anything like this. Wifi on my Evo just doesn't work anymore. I've restarted, cycled all the radios (3G, 4G, BT, etc) on and off thinking something might be hung somewhere, but nothing seems to work. I told it to "forget" my router and then re-entered the password, but it still will not connect to my router either at work or at home. The service will start, but it will not connect to any networks. I'm sure it's some setting or perhaps some app I installed, but I figured while I dig deeper into the issue, it couldn't hurt to start a thread here and perhaps get some suggestions. this is nuts, but I hit the sunken "reset" button on the router and now everything works great again. I'm pleased to know there was nothing wrong with the phone, but perplexed about the router. I guess I'll have to dig into the router settings and see if I can figure out what went wrong.

I swear that WiFi seems to quit working half the time. I'll be browsing the web, it will quit working, and I can turn WiFi off and 3G works just fine. When I re enable Wifi, it works for a bit and then does it again. I'm on a 24MB/s Internet connection, and everything else wireless in the home works fine(my iPhone 4 works flawlessly).
