HTC Magic :: Wifi Compatability With Routers
Sep 10, 2009
I have my new Magic and it works awesomely at the office, my wife's office, my inlaw's router, coffee shop routers.no problem.I take it home, where my 2 laptops, Wii, Palm and Zune all connect and work no problem. So all parts of the magic equation of me getting WiFi at home (thus saving my data plan from racking up huge bills) are a go, except it's not.I have a DLink 614+, and it'll see it, try to connect then say 'unsuccessful'. I've tried rebooting both items, changing the security options on the router etc... but to no avail. HTC Support says it could be something with THAT specific router, but they have exhausted their support binder.Short of swapping out the router with my inlaws, or buying a new one ('cuz then I'd have to change 2 laptops, a Wifi, Palm and a Zune), anybody have any suggestions to make this router work with my Magic?

Does anyone here have/use these headphones? They have controls to allow you to fastforward through songs, as well as answer phone calls (it has a mike) without having to take the earbuds out. I'm interested as I use my Dinc while biking, and I hate getting a phone call and having to dig the thing out of my pocket, unplug the ear phones, and answer the call, I almost always miss it.

I'm finding Docs to Go paid for version does not allow editing when using Swype keyboard (cant delete or choose an alternative word once past that word). Bearing in mind I thought these apps were going to be bundled together I find it both annoying and strange. In fact after saving doc it is not possible for me to even choose/insert/edit a word from saved doc.

i am developing an app that will control a multi-room audio system. I have implimented the following, which works fine on my own network at home (cable modem and D-Link DIR 855 router), but does not work on the office DSL Motorola modem/router. Our iPhone app and our Pronto ProntoScript app work at both locations, so I know that the multicasts are being sent properly. Any ideas?

I got my HTC magic yesterday when i was away from home, I home earlier today and thought i would get the phone setup on my wireless, the phone detects every other network in my area except mine. I am currently writing this on my laptop via the wireless connection and it is detected by another pc wirelessly and my old N95 8Gb, its not out of signal as i have tried it almost sat on the router. I have checked through the routers setup and cannot see any settings that are wrong or would effect this.

Search didn't provide any Droid specific answers for me, so here goes: My wife and I are looking into getting a router in our house, and I want to steer clear of any that will not work with My Droid. Our other uses will be my PS3 and her notebook. Are there any particular routers that we need to avoid?

Very often I can't connect my HTC Magic to WiFi ruuter, although my MacBook connects to WiFi without any problems. In WI-FI networks I see: "Connection unsuccessful, select to try again" How can I debug this problem, there should be logs stored somewhere.

I have internet blox on my htc magic. It means unlimited internet in my country. This summer, I am going on holiday in an other country. They probably have a WiFi connection on the camping. Now my question is: does it cost me money if I use that wifi connection? Or do I get a warning or so when I am paying for the internet?

I'm experiencing some strange phenomenon on my HTC Magic. I have disabled my 3G, so I only use 2G networks.
But on random times, not very often, I suddenly get a message, saying I have new unread Gmail email. When I look at my Gmail inbox, my inbox is totally up to date! I think this is very strange, because I had 3G and WIFI disabled when I retreived these mails. Can Gmail email be retreived via the 2G network? As far as I know, email can not be retrieved via GPRS or other 2G network.

Just two quick questions: When connected to wifi, do internet connections made on the device automatically go via wifi as opposed to 3g etc and if not then is there a way to organize which wireless connection 'methods' have higher priority (i am worried about excessive data costs). Second question is: Is there any multi tasking support on the Magic and if so then how do you switch between applications?

I bought a used unlocked Vodafone HTC Magic off of ebay, and got it setup with my Local GSM just fine. I can make calls, and receive texts no problem. Since I dont want a Data plan, I plan on relying on wifi for gmail services and whatnot. My problem is this. I cant get on wifi. When I go to settings>wireless controls> Wifi at the top says "Unable to start Wi-Fi" And no matter how many times I click it, it just wont start. When I go into Wi-Fi settings, "Add Wi-Fi network" is grayed out, and I cant add one. When I press the menu button while in that menu and select "Scan" It doesnt do anything, just goes away. Any ideas guys? I really want to get this phone working to its full potential.

Sadly, the Android Market in Canada does not have any paid apps. I was just wondering is there any way I can put themes onto my phone? I find that it really sucks that I can't use any of the dxtop themes or openhome themes in the market unless I actually have the app itself (which I cannot purchase).

Ght now I have a iPhone 3g and I am tired of how tight apple has it locked up. And I want an android baed phone. So I have my sights on the htc magic. For people that made the switch. Do you honestly like it better? I don't care if it doesn't blow the iPhone out of the water I just want somethin onpar with the iPhone. Just better will I be satisfied with the magic if I make the switch to android or should I wait for a G4 or something? I can't get the hero cause non currently or ever will support my art carrier. So I am planning to go with an Rogers htc magic.
Please share with me your experiances going from iPhone to magic.(I typed this in iPhone so might be some typeos I didn't proof read.)

I was wondering if anybody docks their Magic (or similar) to one of those thing-a-ma-bobs that holds it between two speakers? They're generally made for iPods but hold other players as well.Because of the wee USB port, I have bought a little adaptor so now I've got 3.5mm jack, but I don't know how well that would dock.
I just want something cheap so I can set it on the kitchen counter whilst making dinner and washing up. I don't even necessarily need it to be at a good angle, so I could just buy a cheapie pair of stereo speakers, but thought something small and compact would be more convenient if I want to move things around to different rooms.I went ahead and bought something verrah verrah cheap off Amazon. I'm not looking for a Carnegie Hall experience, so cheap oughta do the trick. But, would still like to hear about your gadget if you want to talk about it.

Anyway just recently got my best skins ever. If you don't know its a clear skin that goes over your phone to protect it from scratches. Anyway here is my review on it.Installation on this skin, like all skins, is fairly hard. Here are some great tips that really helped me move the proccess along.
1) Using an exacto-knife (or even better a model knife), cut the top piece near the earphone and the bezel piece into two. I guarantee you this will help GREATLY!
2) Do the same on the face buttons, and the bottom bezel. Here is an illustration
3) Palm technique: This is a well-know technique among people who use skins often. On skins, corners often don't stick down. So what do you is wait a couple of minutes, usually 5, then using the palm of your hand press down on the corner and hold it for 30 seconds. The corner usually goes down, if not wait a bit more for the solution to dry then try it again. It is extremely useful for area's that just won't stick down.
4)Another thing that helped me, was get a deck of cards and tape them together. Put your phone on the top and apply the skin then. This helps to make sure your skin doesn't skin to the table.
5) The last thing is never, ever apply your skin over a paper towel, since the dust from it can stick to your skin. And make sure no dust gets under the protector because it is a huge pain to perfectionists like me.
