HTC Magic :: Can I Get My Phone To See My WiFi When I Arrive Home
Mar 30, 2010
I have been having problems trying toget my HTC Magic to "see" my network. Is there anyway to have my WiFi network setup as the priority network, so that when I arrive home, the phone will connect?

If I connect to my home WiFi, it works well. I'll go out of the house and come back a few hours later and the phone does not automatically connect to my home WiFi. If I go to settings, I can see it detects my home WiFi, but says "Connection unsuccessful, select to try again." When I select it, it connects and works fine. My problem is, I don't think I should have to physically select my WiFi network everytime I come home. Shouldn't it see it and connect automatically? What am I dong wrong? Do I have a setting turned on/off that should be different?

I am struggling to connect to my home wifi network. I very occasionally can connect but there seems to be no obvious method to the madness just some black magic. Basically it sees my network it has remembered the key, the key is correct, and it says disconnected. I press connect and nothing happens at all but sometimes it will say "connecting..." then it will immediately say disconnected. I have a belkin router and my network is secured using WPA/WPA2 TKIP/AES encryption. I have tried using APNDroid to turn off my mobile internet before using wifi and that sometimes works but that seems to be more black magic than a solution.

My Hero takes a long time to connect to my home wifi. I usually go in to the settings and hit "Scan" repeatedly before it connects. Sometimes it fails connect, and I have to go into Settings to try again. Is there a way/app to scan automatically or re-attempt to connect again? Maybe there's something I'm not thinking of?

Sorry if this has been addressed, I haven't found anything yet.I've seen screen caps on the web (I'm sure) of the G1 with the home screen in landscape mode, but when I turn my Magic to landscape, the Home screen stays vertical. Is this a limitation of the Magic? Will the home screen not switch to Landscape (horizontal) when the phone is turned?

I got my HTC magic yesterday when i was away from home, I home earlier today and thought i would get the phone setup on my wireless, the phone detects every other network in my area except mine. I am currently writing this on my laptop via the wireless connection and it is detected by another pc wirelessly and my old N95 8Gb, its not out of signal as i have tried it almost sat on the router. I have checked through the routers setup and cannot see any settings that are wrong or would effect this.

I'm the proud owner of the HTC Magic on Vodafone UK. I'm loving the Android.I have to say that after 5 days of owning this device I'm only left scratching my head on one point the auto-orientation of the home screen.I've seen videos of rooted G1's running the hacked 1.5 firmware and the recently posted video of the Samsung i7500 with the 1.5 firmware all CLEARLY show that when the device is on home screen, the desktop (read home screen) auto-rotates depending on the orientation of the device. The Samsung video shows it working in ALL FOUR orientations! This doesn't happen on my Magic . Flip the orientation in an application? Works fine. Flip it back in an application? Works fine. Do it on the home screen?Am I missing something? Is this a feature that is disabled in the offical 1.5 Cupcake release? If that's the case - fine with me. I'll stop scratching my head and move on.

I have been reading this thread for a few days now alongside the vodafone one.I have had my phone for almost 2 weeks now and think it is really great, although one or two things annoy me especially trying to get used to the keyboard.I was hoping someone would be kind enough to help me with a few issues please.
1. I am not very techy and dont really understand a lot of the jargon used but would like to know the difference between 3g and wi fi and how do I know what I am using.
2. How do yo know how much memory your phone has and if you can add any more. I am frightened that all the photos, applications, videos, contacts etc etc that I will use too much memory.
3. How do yo delete shortcts that you have placed on your extra home screen.
4. How does this gprs thing work is that like having a sat nav?
5. How do yo get your hotmail to be sent to your phone I cant seem to work it out without have to just go to google type in msn hotmail then sign in that way.
6. My bluetooth doesnt work.

I have internet blox on my htc magic. It means unlimited internet in my country. This summer, I am going on holiday in an other country. They probably have a WiFi connection on the camping. Now my question is: does it cost me money if I use that wifi connection? Or do I get a warning or so when I am paying for the internet?

I have my new Magic and it works awesomely at the office, my wife's office, my inlaw's router, coffee shop routers.no problem.I take it home, where my 2 laptops, Wii, Palm and Zune all connect and work no problem. So all parts of the magic equation of me getting WiFi at home (thus saving my data plan from racking up huge bills) are a go, except it's not.I have a DLink 614+, and it'll see it, try to connect then say 'unsuccessful'. I've tried rebooting both items, changing the security options on the router etc... but to no avail. HTC Support says it could be something with THAT specific router, but they have exhausted their support binder.Short of swapping out the router with my inlaws, or buying a new one ('cuz then I'd have to change 2 laptops, a Wifi, Palm and a Zune), anybody have any suggestions to make this router work with my Magic?

I'm experiencing some strange phenomenon on my HTC Magic. I have disabled my 3G, so I only use 2G networks.
But on random times, not very often, I suddenly get a message, saying I have new unread Gmail email. When I look at my Gmail inbox, my inbox is totally up to date! I think this is very strange, because I had 3G and WIFI disabled when I retreived these mails. Can Gmail email be retreived via the 2G network? As far as I know, email can not be retrieved via GPRS or other 2G network.

When clicking and holding the home button the very useful modal dialogue appears showing the list of recently used programs/applications. Unfortunately, most of the time it appears and then disappears again. It is very annoying and makes this feature useless.
I am using LauncherPro on my Android 2.1 (CyanogenMod 5.0.8 DS), but with ADW launcher it showed the same behaviour.

Just two quick questions: When connected to wifi, do internet connections made on the device automatically go via wifi as opposed to 3g etc and if not then is there a way to organize which wireless connection 'methods' have higher priority (i am worried about excessive data costs). Second question is: Is there any multi tasking support on the Magic and if so then how do you switch between applications?

I don't want to use the Gmail app. I want to use the Android mail app. I have Exchange accounts that are set to sync "as items arrive," but with my Google accounts, the best I see is 5 minutes. Is there any way around this? Also, in the Gmail app, is it even possible to navigate between messages while having one open (forward / previous nav buttons)?

We have developed the application SMSReader. With this application, you will be able to listen the SMS text messages as soon as you get them. It's a really useful application when driving, because most hands-free won't be able to read SMS. The user interface is simple and intuitive. By now you can set these options:
- SMS Reader: if you check on this option you will active/desactive the application.
- Bluetooth: by selecting this option, SMSReader will only read the SMS text messages when bluetooth is on.
- Volume: you can set the multimedia volume used to play the SMS text message. You can find more info in this link:Android in Spain: SMSReader: listen your SMS as soon as they arrive.

Is anyone using Exchange ActiveSync with "As items arrive" enabled?I had it set this way yesterday and my battery was completely dead in 4 hours (with minimal use). Now, i have it set to check "Every 10 minutes" and my battery is at 60% after 7 hours of heavy use!! Incredible! I am using Exchange 2003 (hosted provider) and I've NEVER had a device do this. The devices always seem to last longer with "as items arrive" set - since it isn't syncing regardless every 10 minutes.

This is my first post on here - I tried looking for an existing thread that might answer my question, but couldn't find one.Although generally happy with my HTC Hero, one problem I'm having is that I can't seem to email photos.Say I'm looking through my photos and want to email one, I press 'Menu', then 'Share', then 'Google Mail' then enter the email address and then press 'send'. It then says 'Sending message', albeit only briefly. (I would've thought it would take longer to email a 5MB photo and that the 'Sending message' notification would stay up for as long as the email was in the process of being sent.) But there's no indication of whether the email has arrived or not. Well, it hasn't. I've tried different photos, different email addresses. but none of the photos emailed using the 'share' funtion have arrived with the intended recipient.Same with the Sticky Note app. There's an option to email the sticky note, but despite numerous attempts, none of them have arrived at the recipient's email address.

I have an Incredible. 2.2 is on there (aka FroYo). I am reasonably happy with the stock implementation of Exchange support except that the phone seems to be intermittent in it's willingness to sync "As items arrive". I have the thing set to "As Items Arrive" for both peak and off-peak. Sometimes it will show new mail (and bing at me) on it's own. Other times it doesn't, though it does seem to initiate a sync after I turn the phone on and go the mail app (or look at the sync settings screen in the control panel).Any idea what is going on?

So I'm using stock 2.1 with the stock messenger app. I'm sending MMS pics to 3 seperate phones - sometimes they go thru, sometimes they don't. On my messenger app it reads the time stamp after it 'digests' it, but on the other three phones the pics don't show up (sometimes they do, but more often they do not). I'm testing against 2 ATT Go Phones (and verified texting works b/c they charge me for each tex) and 1 iphone. What gives?I notice (so far) reliability is much improved if I turn WiFi off

My Problem is that I need to send messages with a delay of 1 second. The handler then initiates some action, you're getting the picture. There are nevertheless some conditions in which the already sent message should be deleted ( before the second elapsed ) to prevent the handler from doing anything. I couldn't figure out how to do this ( or if it's even possible ), so If anyone of you has a clue, please let me know.

I use Bluetooth to connect to my landline phone when I am home. All my phones ring all over my house when my Droid rings. I can leave Bluetooth on all the time but I am afraid that will drain my battery.
Is there any app that will turn Bluetooth on and off when I arrive/leave my house?
