I did a factory re-set on my phone, and I use Handcent as my preferred IM application. Previously, I had "turned off" the notification sounds from the stock HTC messaging app, but now I cannot remember where I did that. I have gone to settings, but I cannot find how to turn it off for the life of me. Now I get double notifications, and I only want Handcent notifications.

After installing the Handcent app, I now get 2 notations for every text message I receive. One from Handcant, and another from the Droid's default text message app. Is there a way to turn off the default text msg app?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWas just wondering if anyone knew how to turn of the sound and vibration when instant message calls come in?, can't find an option for this anywhere and they are too regular to leave it running whilst at work unless i can switch them off. Also a tip, although it tells you you cannot use over wifi I find it works fine if you disconect the wifi whilst signing in and then reconnect the wifi.

I tried out chompsms recently, but I just didn't like the way it working compared to the regular messaging system. My friend somehow turned off the notifications for the built in messaging system, so now that I've uninstalled chomp, I don't know when I get messages. I can't figure out how to turn it back on. I've looked all through the settings.

I am going to be using the ustream broadcaster app over 3g to stream a concert this weekend.
I do not want the app to be interrupted by anything while im using it.. no phone calls, no txt and no notifications. As it is now if a phone call comes through it will interrupt the app to take the call. If I decline the call the stream will not restart by itself. I know i can turn off different apps notifications but how can I go about not letting phone calls or txts through?
I cant just put it into airplane mode since i need 3g and im a little lost on what options I would have.
i dont know if its me but i dont seem to be getting instant notifications via text when someone replies to my status or when i post on someones wall etc. I used to get them instantly on my Storm. Is there a step Im missing here?

At work I am in tons of meetings and conference calls and having a ring tone blast out isn't accepted too well So when I get to work I turn my ringtone volume down to VIBRATE and when I get a call, since I have my phone bare in my pocket, it vibrates and I never miss a call.
But as soon as I change to VIBRATE MODE, all the stuff for NOTIFICATION SOUND under SETTINGS is grayed out. If I go under MESSAGES and SETTINGS, the check box is checked for PLAY NOTIFICATION SOUND and VIBRATE.
I just tested this several times and with the phone in saver mode (screen timed out and is blank), I get ABSOLUTELY NOTHING when I get a text message. No vibrate, buzz, blip or anything. If I call my phone it vibrates for the incoming call fine. BUt for a text message... NOTHING!
Since I *HAVE* to use VIBRATE MODE at work, how can I get the phone to notify me when I get a text message? Kind of important to me as an out of state relative was trying to text me information about my mother's surgery and I was not getting any notification on my phone.
How do I turn off repeat email/text notifications? I only want it to tell me once when something new comes in. Mine alerts every 5 minutes until I clear it. This drives me up the wall when I'm sleeping, driving, playing on the phone, etc...

I've managed to make it start a new blank message but not open a pre-defined one and send it automatically.

This worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago when the default app started generating them. The option is definitely 100% disabled so I have no idea why it is still generating them. To make it worse even if I go into all messages with both Handcent and the default app my LED remains blue.

Can you read people's away messages with this phone, if so how? When i get a new IM, i get sent a website browser in the notification along with the the person's screen name who IMed me, but when i click the link, it never loads up and shows an error, anyway to fix this or anything?
