HTC Desire :: Shortcut To Instant SMS Message?
Aug 17, 2010Does anyone know how, if it's even possible, to create a shortcut on your home screen to send a pre-defined SMS message? For instance an SMS to say your on your way home or something my pressing only one icon?
I've managed to make it start a new blank message but not open a pre-defined one and send it automatically.

Sep 4, 2010I did a factory re-set on my phone, and I use Handcent as my preferred IM application. Previously, I had "turned off" the notification sounds from the stock HTC messaging app, but now I cannot remember where I did that. I have gone to settings, but I cannot find how to turn it off for the life of me. Now I get double notifications, and I only want Handcent notifications.

Dec 23, 2009A couple of quick questions.. I can't change my custom away message (status), even though it says to tap your screen name at the top of the buddy list. Can you read people's away messages with this phone, if so how? When i get a new IM, i get sent a website browser in the notification along with the the person's screen name who IMed me, but when i click the link, it never loads up and shows an error, anyway to fix this or anything?

Apr 13, 2010Was just wondering if anyone knew how to turn of the sound and vibration when instant message calls come in?, can't find an option for this anywhere and they are too regular to leave it running whilst at work unless i can switch them off. Also a tip, although it tells you you cannot use over wifi I find it works fine if you disconect the wifi whilst signing in and then reconnect the wifi.

Feb 5, 2013 i've changed three android tablets so far, rooted my phone, installed and tweaked dozen of roms on it,
on both my tablet and phone i have facebook and gmail applications. they are basically the same .apks since i have a backup of them on a sd card and if i format one device, i often use restire the apps from the sd card.
and you know how you get an instant notification on your phone if you receive a fb message or an e-mail? that doesn't happen on my tablet. it seems that a couple of minutes after i turn off the display on my tablet, it drops the wifi connection (a power save thing i suppose).
is there any way to ensure a constant wifi connection on my tablet so that i receive email/fb notifications in real time and just not after i turn the display on?

Nov 25, 2010I notice that the home screen is customizable but not the four applications on the bottom, the call, email, browser and applications. How would I change those icons with different icons? Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.

May 26, 2010I've been having a problem with my desire home screen (in particular the sms icon) and I'm wondering if anyone else knows how to fix it.
Recently my messages icon has been showing the little "1" in a green circle indicating I have an unread message. Problem is, I've gone through every list of messages I have on the device and there are no messages I haven't read and the "1" stays there. The only ways I've found to get rid of it are to either delete the icon and then put it back or to use Advance Task Killer and kill messages application. I'm not using any fancy apps for messages, just the default one.
My email counter is always perfect, this only seems to affect my sms. Also, my girlfriend told me she sent me a message a few days ago, but I never received it. Not sure if that's a happy coincidence, or if the phone got the message, is telling me I haven't read it, but isn't displaying it for me to see. All the other messages from her are plainly visible.

Android :: LED Notification For Instant Messages
Jan 31, 2010I can't figure out how to make this work. It doesn't show up as an option in notifications, although I can do it it with pretty much everything else. I get tired of having to turn on my phone like it is a damn iphone, to see if I have an instant message waiting. I get dozens a day, and really don't like that I can't simply glance at the phone and see if one is waiting. Is there a setting for this, or an app to make it work? The Instant Messaging app for Yahoo, etc. seems like it could use an update. I don't get the "so and so is typing a message" like I used to on my BB when the other party was typing. I keep interrupting them now if we have a conversation going, and then miss their messages when I'm not staring at my phone.

May 24, 2010So I'm yet another former Blackberry user looking for a Blackberry Messenger replacement. My wife and I used to communicate primarily through BBM frequently sending pictures. Now that we've switched to Android/GTalk we're really missing the ability to send pictures in the chat. I'd like to avoid using any text/picture messages since she's the only one I message on a regular basis and I can't justify spending an additional 5/10/20 dollars just for the convenience of sending pictures using the built in message app.My only real requirement is that the app have the ability to send pictures in the chat. Pictures can be viewed outside of the app, but should be downloadable from the app. It can use any existing IM network out there, that's not a concern. Push is not a feature I care about either.I already did a bit of searching on this forum and the internet. A few push style apps showed up but their quality seems marginal at best. I found it surprising that nothing fit my requirements, but maybe I missed something. I also tried both Meebo and eBuddy without success, though I limited my testing to AIM and GTalk.

Oct 14, 2009I have a CursorAdapter attached to a ListView, the ListView contains checkboxes for every row. When I check/uncheck a checkbox in a row it will update it to a 0 or 1 in the database (This is working fine) I also have another checkbox in the same Activity that when pressed will disable all the checkboxes in the ListView [ setEnabled(false) ].
The problem is that when I press this checkbox the ListView checkboxes return to their initial state when I started the activity. It does not matter the number of checkboxes I changed during the activity.
However, if I press the back button and then re-enter the activity all modifications are saved because the Cursor is refreshed. I am calling notifyDataSetChanged() at the end of the the methods that disables all the checkboxes.
I also tried this for every checkbox in the ListView but it did not work (was unable to check a checkbox) Any ideas?
