Will it be possible to upgrade the Hero from v1.5 to v2.0 when it comes out? I'm thinking of the HTC sense software, will that be in the way? Is it possible to remote the HTC sense software an replace it with regular google android if one want?

Doing a search here and elsewhere, I am confused -- is android 2.0 out yet? I have my HTC Hero via Sprint and the 2.0 upgrade is not yet available on their download site. I called Sprint customer service and they said it would NOT negate my Sprint support if I did an upgrade to 2.0 but they could not give me details on how or where to upgrade.

View 11 Replies View RelatedSo I upgraded to 2.1 a couple of days ago and I think it's possessed my phone! My ringer keeps going off and there's no one calling. And I can't figure out how to hang up from a call now! It's also so slow when I click on someone to call. Sometimes it just sits there until it finally starts to make the call. Any suggestions? Oh and my shapewriter does not work nearly as well as it did on the 1.5. Do you think this is something that will get worked out or are we destined to deal with the bugginess of the 2.1?

The Android 2.2 Upgrade List: Phones Definitely Getting Froyo
Nexus One: Despite the shuttering of its online store, Google's flagship phone is still first in line for the Froyo upgrade. In late May, a "very limited test group" received an early copy of the 2.2 software. Google has since been working on final tweaks and expects a widespread rollout to begin soon.
Motorola Droid: The Droid that started it all is set to be second in line for the Android 2.2 upgrade. Early reports suggested the Droid could see Froyo before the end of June. We all know what happened with the Droid's 2.1 upgrade schedule, though, so don't mark your calendars just yet.
HTC Droid Incredible: HTC has confirmed that its newest Droid handset will be feasting on Froyo. No specific timeframe has been released outside of sometime "in the second half of this year."
HTC EVO 4G: The EVO 4G is the phone most frequently pitted up against Apple's new iPhone 4 (hint: the EVO wins), so it's no surprise that it's on the confirmed guest list for the latest and greatest Android release. The EVO should get Froyo sometime in the next six months.
MyTouch 3G and MyTouch 3G Slide: The entire MyTouch line of phones on T-Mobile is expected to see Froyo before the end of 2010.
HTC Desire: It's not yet available in the States, but this desirable HTC handset is on-tap to get the Android 2.2 upgrade sometime in the next six months as well.
I wanted to ask you if there are some must do's after upgrading to 2.1.Since upgrading..the phone is very laggy and sometimes the network will just drop.I won't be able to surf or use any programs that require getting on the internet.Is there something I can do now that I'm on 2.1 to restore it's speed? View 16 Replies View Relatedi have a deadspot on my screen in the bottom left hand corner. so anytime i want to hit the Shift button or type "z" or "c" i have turn my phone sideways. then as soon as i start typing that way i have to turn my sideways again to type "m" or hit the NUM button.i signed a 2 year contract with Verizon after they convinced me to buy the Eris instead of the MotoDroid. after this one it will be my 3RD Eris. the earpiece in the first one died within a month and this one is the buggiest, slowest, most horrible batter life ever phone (not to mention a dead spot in the screen). are there any chances they'll upgrade me to a better phone and this p.o.s.? or when you bring it in to get it replaced do they just ship you a new crappy Eris?

I thought maybe this was a Spare Parts issue, since I had changed the Power Button behavior on 1.5 using Spare Parts (when I pressed Power from any screen, it would return me Home; pressing from Home would Lock). So, I uninstalled Spare Parts, but this didn't remedy my problem. Any advice?

On the link provided by the 3 website the Rom upgrade available is ROM version 2.73.405.5 but the one on my phone is 2.73.771.62. Now I'm assuming that the bigger the number, the more recent the software. Am I right with this and if so, am I correct in thinking I don't need to upgrade the ROM?

Even now im still trying to find new things to do with 2.1 that i couldnt do before. I thought why have a thread that people can post new things about 2.1 ROMs so that fence sitters can have a decision. So put up the apps/widgets etc that are 2.1 only and why they are so great. Also remember to state if it is ROM dependant (Villain/SenseHero etc)I am on SenseHero 2.2 the pinch zoom in home screen that shows an overview of all your 7 screens is wonderful. It makes getting to the end screens so much quicker, and it looks super flashy.At first i didnt like the theme but now i really quite like it.Live Wallpapers & 3D gallery they are pretty nifty, however on my device were not so smooth so I uninstalled as it is really just eye candy and does not add to the use of the phone. Much the same with 3d gallery, i had a few minor problems but was happy with the original gallery so switched back. Your experience with these may differ though so they are worth a look.Bluetooth file transfer is working? Or so i have heard, i havn't tested yet though Google Goggles, Although 1.6 is required, most people are on 1.5 roms. It is a really cool app, works great when wanting an online price as opposed to a store price. Ive used it to find some info on books for uni etc. It stores your history so you can recall everything you have searched.
AOSP Keyboard, I got quite used to the HTC keyboard but once i swapper it for this there was no going back. Much quiker than HTC keyboard and a lot easier to type. Though i do miss the long press for symbols, i can live without them.As for apps and widgets, so far im not too sure. I hope some others can suggest some.

It's a G-Sensor calibration tool so nothing exciting but I wasn't expecting anything ever again after getting 2.1!

Took about five minutes for the device to fully reboot into the phone after the progress bar reached the end so don't be tempted to turn it off during this process.

I recently learnt of this update, but having real trouble installing it. I sync Hero to HTC, follow instructions, get half way through to point where blue bar says it's erased 11% of contacts...and every single time I get error 171: USB connection error. The phone or computer keeps dropping the connection; anyone got any ideas why this might be happening and how to solve it?

Was wondering if it was worth upgrading?I'm happy with the way the phone is, so unless there's a serious improvement I probably won't bother.

Can't quite believe some of us are here, now on 2.1 unbranded in the UK. Due to the heat last night couldn't sleep so got up at 12am, out of curisoty checked for updates........2.30am after downloading i'm still sat on the decking checking the new features........
Anyway, one thing i have noticed is the fact i cannot log onto LastFm using the app, has anyone else had this!!!! I can log in fine via a pc so i know it's not my account, just from the phone.
Like many other I am delighted to finally have 2.1 on my Hero. But I have found a slight niggle with the way contacts are stored which seems a bit different and wondered if anyone else had noticed it and/or found an easy solution to the problem it causes.
When I installed 2.1 I didn't check the sync settings and the default was to sync Google contacts, so it appears all those contacts have been synced to my phone. I don't use those, so I un-checked the sync Google contacts flag and set the view option in the People app to only view Phone contacts.
My recollection is (but I could be wrong) that under 1.5, if you un-checked the sync Google contacts setting, all the Google contacts were removed. This does not seem to have happened this time. In the View contacts settings page it's still showing 1613 Google contacts.
The real problem is that when I use the phone keypad smart dial, it still finds the Google contacts so they still come up as options. (As do the SIM card contacts despite the settings in the People app).
Has anyone else found this? And if so, is there a way to 'un-sync' the Google contacts so that they are removed from the phone?
Wotcher chaps and chapettes, has anyone played with the music app since upgrading to the later Hero rom? If so have you noticed if the app heeds the track order properly or not, or whether it continues to keep re-ordering tracks in alphabetical order?
