I got my HTC Hero yesterday. I want to upgrade to 2.1 But apparently it's not out yet, i also think it should help to run the new 3D Games.I'm getting a 8GB Card later on today and want to know how to ROOT my HTC Hero, if i need to to install 2.1.I heard this is the best ROM in this video.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen i connect my Hero to the PC,Htc Sync finds it and its all good.BUT just as i run the RUU it turns off !Then there's suddenly NO connection between Sync and my Hero. Then the RUU says error 170: Connection Problems.I got the ADB driver and windows says it works, and it should since it connects with Sync (without RUU).So i dont know what to do when it suddenly switches off right in the process. Can anyone help me please?Would be REALLY appreciated
View 7 Replies View RelatedWe have a number of users experiencing crashes with our apps on Hero type phones (hero, droid eris, etc.). After some debugging, it appears that they upgraded the app, but that the phone somehow cached the old version of the AndroidManifest. For instance, the app version is still reported as one less than the latest, and the crash is caused by the phone not seeing a new activity in the Manifest (which is true for the old version manifest, but the new manifest of course has the activity defined). This seems to be limited to Hero phones, but we've seen it on all types (tmeu hero, verizon desirec, etc.). Is there any way to fix this besides spending many characters of the limited description size on something like "Hero users: please uninstall before upgrading"? Will there be a Hero fix to fix this behavior?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe Android 2.2 Upgrade List: Phones Definitely Getting Froyo
Nexus One: Despite the shuttering of its online store, Google's flagship phone is still first in line for the Froyo upgrade. In late May, a "very limited test group" received an early copy of the 2.2 software. Google has since been working on final tweaks and expects a widespread rollout to begin soon.
Motorola Droid: The Droid that started it all is set to be second in line for the Android 2.2 upgrade. Early reports suggested the Droid could see Froyo before the end of June. We all know what happened with the Droid's 2.1 upgrade schedule, though, so don't mark your calendars just yet.
HTC Droid Incredible: HTC has confirmed that its newest Droid handset will be feasting on Froyo. No specific timeframe has been released outside of sometime "in the second half of this year."
HTC EVO 4G: The EVO 4G is the phone most frequently pitted up against Apple's new iPhone 4 (hint: the EVO wins), so it's no surprise that it's on the confirmed guest list for the latest and greatest Android release. The EVO should get Froyo sometime in the next six months.
MyTouch 3G and MyTouch 3G Slide: The entire MyTouch line of phones on T-Mobile is expected to see Froyo before the end of 2010.
HTC Desire: It's not yet available in the States, but this desirable HTC handset is on-tap to get the Android 2.2 upgrade sometime in the next six months as well.
I'm a newbie with the Hero so please excuse my ignorance. On the link provided by the 3 website the Rom upgrade available is ROM version 2.73.405.5 but the one on my phone is 2.73.771.62. Now I'm assuming that the bigger the number, the more recent the software. Am I right with this and if so, am I correct in thinking I don't need to upgrade the ROM?

View 5 Replies View Relatedso I took the plunge and threw SenseHero 2.2 on my HERO.As with many others I was curious as to why i should upgrade. Even now im still trying to find new things to do with 2.1 that i couldnt do before. I thought why have a thread that people can post new things about 2.1 ROMs so that fence sitters can have a decision. So put up the apps/widgets etc that are 2.1 only and why they are so great. Also remember to state if it is ROM dependant (Villain/SenseHero etc)I am on SenseHero 2.2 the pinch zoom in home screen that shows an overview of all your 7 screens is wonderful. It makes getting to the end screens so much quicker, and it looks super flashy. At first i didnt like the theme but now i really quite like it.Live Wallpapers & 3D gallery they are pretty nifty, however on my device were not so smooth so I uninstalled as it is really just eye candy and does not add to the use of the phone. Much the same with 3d gallery, i had a few minor problems but was happy with the original gallery so switched back. Your experience with these may differ though so they are worth a look.Bluetooth file transfer is working? Or so i have heard, i havn't tested yet though Google Goggles, Although 1.6 is required, most people are on 1.5 roms. It is a really cool app, works great when wanting an online price as opposed to a store price. Ive used it to find some info on books for uni etc. It stores your history so you can recall everything you have searched.
AOSP Keyboard, I got quite used to the HTC keyboard but once i swapper it for this there was no going back. Much quiker than HTC keyboard and a lot easier to type. Though i do miss the long press for symbols, i can live without them.As for apps and widgets, so far im not too sure. I hope some others can suggest some.
On Saturday the 3rd i got a htc hero from t-mobile on contract, since then a ROM has been released on the phone the build number is 1.76 110.6 146733 CL47214release keys. the question is do i need to upgrade the ROM on it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedHaven't seen this mentioned anywhere (apologies if I've missed it) but I randomly thought I'd check for updates on my unbranded Hero and something actually came up!
It's a G-Sensor calibration tool so nothing exciting but I wasn't expecting anything ever again after getting 2.1!
Screen:
I had no data loss problems whatsoever during the update.

Nice new updating screen too:

Will post what's happened after the update completes.
Update:
Took about five minutes for the device to fully reboot into the phone after the progress bar reached the end so don't be tempted to turn it off during this process.
I was then presented with this screen:

And within Settings> Sound & display you now have:

I recently learnt of this update, but having real trouble installing it. I sync Hero to HTC, follow instructions, get half way through to point where blue bar says it's erased 11% of contacts...and every single time I get error 171: USB connection error. The phone or computer keeps dropping the connection; anyone got any ideas why this might be happening and how to solve it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI was looking at the latest MoDaCo ROM and it seems its moved on quite a bit since when I first got my phone and put the custom ROM on it. Was wondering if it was worth upgrading?I'm happy with the way the phone is, so unless there's a serious improvement I probably won't bother.
My build number says 2.73.405.5 MCR2.2c.On another note, if I did upgrade, would it put the phone back to factory standard (i.e would I lose all my customisation, apps, etc)?
Can't quite believe some of us are here, now on 2.1 unbranded in the UK. Due to the heat last night couldn't sleep so got up at 12am, out of curisoty checked for updates........2.30am after downloading i'm still sat on the decking checking the new features........
Anyway, one thing i have noticed is the fact i cannot log onto LastFm using the app, has anyone else had this!!!! I can log in fine via a pc so i know it's not my account, just from the phone.
Like many other I am delighted to finally have 2.1 on my Hero. But I have found a slight niggle with the way contacts are stored which seems a bit different and wondered if anyone else had noticed it and/or found an easy solution to the problem it causes.
When I installed 2.1 I didn't check the sync settings and the default was to sync Google contacts, so it appears all those contacts have been synced to my phone. I don't use those, so I un-checked the sync Google contacts flag and set the view option in the People app to only view Phone contacts.
My recollection is (but I could be wrong) that under 1.5, if you un-checked the sync Google contacts setting, all the Google contacts were removed. This does not seem to have happened this time. In the View contacts settings page it's still showing 1613 Google contacts.
The real problem is that when I use the phone keypad smart dial, it still finds the Google contacts so they still come up as options. (As do the SIM card contacts despite the settings in the People app).
Has anyone else found this? And if so, is there a way to 'un-sync' the Google contacts so that they are removed from the phone?
Wotcher chaps and chapettes, has anyone played with the music app since upgrading to the later Hero rom? If so have you noticed if the app heeds the track order properly or not, or whether it continues to keep re-ordering tracks in alphabetical order?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been trying to downgrade to version .5 for days! Im about ready to throw my hero out the window! I have rooted it before, So I know im capable of it. Nothing ever goes right, ive tried every method gold card included. When im trying to downgrade to .5 when it come time "upgrade" the only option that the installer gives me is .6 which I already have! View 8 Replies View RelatedI never had this problem until upgrading to 2.1. I have my clock process excluded in my task manager, I check the volume level every night through Audio Manager and even in the clock app - and it is not going off. I set alarms for everything, so this is very frustrating.
I can set a test alarm for two minutes from now and it will go off with no issues at full volume. But if I leave it alone for awhile, the alarm won't go off. I think the most reasonable thing to assume here is that it has something to do with the clock not updating until you turn the phone on. I don't know what to do.
When I upgrade to next version of ROM for my hero, be it 2.0 or 2.1 wil I loose preintslled apps & games like Fascebook & tweeter or ar they hard programmed into Hero. I have backed up my apps using Astro. Not sure how much this back up. Could someone give me the definitive procedure for keeping as much data as possible on phone when the update is release in March?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Orange branded Hero and just tried to upgrade from build 2.73.61.5 (Firmware 1.5) to ROM Version:2.73.61.66 as I believe this is necessary in order to get the latest version of Android (2.1). Right at the start of the upgrade process I get an error message saying
Error [155] unknown error. The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again. I rang Orange and they couldn't help. I managed to speak to someone who understood the information I was telling him but he was not able to help other than do a Google search whilst I was on the phone to him. The suggestion was that the internal phone storage is insufficient to handle the 103MB image size of the upgrade file. I have now deleted all my apps (after backing them up) and have 123MB internal phone storage available space which should easily be enough but I'm still getting the error.
Going from a jailbroken iPhone so trying to get the general jist of how to unlock my phone and root, or maybe it's unroot my phone too.
I've heard that if the software is upgraded to the new .66 software then an unlocking code will work first time without the need to use the Madaco rom etc etc. Is this true?
Can an Orange locked Hero be upgraded using the Sync software without actually turning it on as I don't have an Orange sim card to turn it on with before unlocking it.
If i do need a sim card to upgrade to make it easier to unlock, should I just apply the Madaco rom any way as I wish to root the phone?
as per title please, im having problems connecting my hero to the computer to do a ROM upgrade, iv heard this upgrade fixes pc connecting issues but i obviously cant upgrade it because i cant connect to the computer.if that makes sense?so is it possible to do the rom upgrade without connecting it to the computer via cable?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new on here as I only got my HTC Hero the other day, and while trawling the internet for answers this place kept coming up. I have a few questions about this phone, or more to the point, the android OS running it. I see that it only has android 1.5 on it at the moment, and there are no newer upgrades available yet. That said, I've read in numerous places on the net that android 2.1 is coming to the HTC hero at the end of this week or start of next week depending on your network, is this true? What would this upgrade actually improve? My new phone seems pretty stable and usable as it is already, wasn't voted best phone of 2009 for nothing I guess. My second query is about the apps from the android market. When this 2.1 upgrade comes, I expect it'll wipe the phone clean and reinstall with the newer OS. If any apps are already paid for, will I have to pay again to download them a second time? Or is there any way of me backing them up first?
