I have had my Eris for 11 months. It works fine except for a minor glitch here or there. I found the Fascinate for online which would extend my contract for another 2 years.

My dad's phone was due for upgrade this past Monday. He has a flip phone, and wouldn't be able to handle a smart phone. The phone he has has big buttons and a screen that displays big numbers and that kind of thing. He needs to stay with it. I was trying however to figure out if I could upgrade him to a Fascinate, but put my number on it, and give him back his flip. I have an Eris,and my contract with it is due for upgrade 11-1-10. I don't think this would work because I'm still obligated to one more month of data plan on my Eris. I'm desperate to get rid of this thing though.

I wanted to upgrade my phone to either the Droid X or the Fascinate so I went to a few Verizon stores over the weekend to test the phones out.
I really liked the size and feel of the Fascinate over the bulkiness of the X, but I noticed in many of the floor models that the touchscreen wasn't very accurate when trying out the texting feature.
I realize that floor samples are abused and therefore not indicative of the actual phone. So I wanted to ask people who actually own and use the phone if anyone has noticed any issues regarding the touchscreen.
I currently own a Samsung touchscreen and it has become a bit fussy. It has been two years so I know its to be expected, but want to avoid any future problems.
I want to know how I can get a new Android phone without using an upgrade (I don't have one). I would prefer a Moto first gen Droid, or a Droid 2, but right now I'm waiting until June to get a new upgrade because the people at Verizon seem to think that two years is not too long for a smart phone upgrade, especially a Android phone. Any way I can replace my Eris and still have my next upgrade intact?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an upgrade available atm and I can't decide if I should wait or not. I currently have a Droid 1 rooted/OC'd. My options are either the Fascinate or wait till Jan-Feb. I have zero interest in the X, and can't see "upgrading" to the D2 or the Incredible.
It is probably meaningless to ask the Fascinate community because, like the D1 community, you're probably all biased..but how are you liking your Fascinates? Would you upgrade to it today if you had the choice? What's the highest achievable clock speed to date (stable)? How is audio quality, I've heard of speaker crackling when at max volume?
I received the update notification last Sun. I did exactly what it said and have been having problems w/ my poor phone ever since. Biggest problem is that my phone DOES NOT ring when someone calls. View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a deadspot on my screen in the bottom left hand corner. so anytime i want to hit the Shift button or type "z" or "c" i have turn my phone sideways. then as soon as i start typing that way i have to turn my sideways again to type "m" or hit the NUM button.i signed a 2 year contract with Verizon after they convinced me to buy the Eris instead of the MotoDroid. after this one it will be my 3RD Eris. the earpiece in the first one died within a month and this one is the buggiest, slowest, most horrible batter life ever phone (not to mention a dead spot in the screen). are there any chances they'll upgrade me to a better phone and this p.o.s.? or when you bring it in to get it replaced do they just ship you a new crappy Eris?
View 14 Replies View RelatedReceived my 2.1 OTA at 1:36 AM last night and ever since, I can't manually lock my phone by short pressing the power button anymore. I thought maybe this was a Spare Parts issue, since I had changed the Power Button behavior on 1.5 using Spare Parts (when I pressed Power from any screen, it would return me Home; pressing from Home would Lock). So, I uninstalled Spare Parts, but this didn't remedy my problem. Any advice?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOk, this is my question...What does a phone have to have to be considered a Droid by VZW? It's not a moto thing because the Incredible has the Droid name attached to it, and it's an HTC phone. I would think all Android Phones put out by vzw would carry the name. Is the Fascinate not EVIL enough for the Robotic, Terminator marketing, and instead they use a merry go round conveyor belt with a bunch of Fascinates attached to it for commercials and marketing? My fear is that the Fascinate will get left behind, and the attention will go towards phones with the Droid name. When I say left behind I mean updates and what not, and just plain love from Google, considering the whole BING fiasco and how that must have pissed of Google.

I've been reading a lot about the droid x and the fascinate.
I like my palm pre because of the webos, but i really really hate the keyboard and some other minor annoyances.
I had an eris before and it was ok. i still have it and use it mostly as a kindle for reading in bed at night.
Here are my questions:
1 - on the Eris, my main complaint is that when reading on the Kindle app in the dark, the soft keys light up and are really bright. is there some sort of patch or something that i can use so that that doesn't happen on the fascinate?
2 - alarm clock - the palm pre plus does not have a separate volume for the ringer and the alarm. if i set the alarm, i have to be prepared for any other notifications to come thru as well. on the fascinate, is there the ability to silence everything BUT the alarm clock?
3 - GPS - i use google maps a lot and go to big cities on the East Coast frequently. some of the droid x/fascinate threads say the fascinate gps is laggy/inaccurate. has this been the experience of users in ny/dc/baltimore/philly? i know that in my mostly podunk town, gps can be off by quite a bit, but much more accurate in larger cities. not sure of the technicalities behind GPS so maybe it's just my imagination.

The Seido one is larger and has a reputation, whereas the ebay one is slightly larger, but comes with the charger so that I can carry two. With the Seido, I would probably just do a complete replacement and not carry the extra. The ebay on is also vastly cheaper. <--not too big a factor, as if I keep the phone I will not cheap out on arguably one of the most important parts. However, as a colege student, the cheaper price is nice.
Can I have 2.1 on my Eris using the USB cable included or do I need to by an adapter to use the micro SD card and get the update?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI remember seeing this on the Motorola Droid page but, would one of you smart guys/gals be willing to post a sticky on how to UPLOAD their OTA upgrade, should they receive it?All I know is that you're supposed to postpone the actual installation and save it to the card. or something. IF by some chance I happen to get mine while I'm home, and IF someone else doesn't beat me to it, I'd be more than willing to upload it somewhere (megauploader?) to share. That is, of course, providing I'm actually home when it happens.Or, maybe if it's as simple as saving it to the SD card, I could copy it and email it to one of you more tech-savvy individuals if I'm away. Or, maybe someone else would be willing to do the same. Perhaps one of you mods would be nice enough to post instructions in a sticky? I downloaded the files I needed and was planning on upgrading both phones.For the DROID I ran into a problem, my computer won't recognize the RSDLite program that I guess I need to upgrade my DROID. So I am not sure how to do it. I have BB v0.9 downloaded, or is there a better 2.1 available to use without rooting?For my wife's Eris it was so simple. Basically I downloaded the .zip file, mounted the phone and put the file on the sd card, then restarted the phone. I just followed the on screen steps, and bam, now my wife's Eris has 2.1.Is there not a way that is that simple to update the DROID. I am kind of jealous because my wife has 2.1 on her Eris, and I have the better phone that is now running a lower software version. Anyone want to help me out?

Its a Samsung Captivate, it seems to work just the screen is shattered. Its done. Literally. I already signed a 2 year contract with ATT, my mom isn't into smart phones and stuff, is it possible to use her upgrade and get a new phone? Then she can cancel the Data Plan? I share a family plan with her, only thing I can think of.

View 43 Replies View RelatedJust manually upgraded to the 2.1 OTA from stock 1.5. Did a factory reset prior to upgrade. Everything seems to be working fine except that I get this error message when trying to install any app:
Installation error: Insufficient storage available
When I check the phone storage settings I see this:
SD Card: 7.39GB total space - 7.27GB available space
Internal phone storage: 136MB
Also, I'm noticing that the "Format SD Card" option is greyed out.
Am i mistaken or am I seeing clouds moving over the wallpaper after I upgraded to 2.1.
View 45 Replies View RelatedI want to preface all of the following by stating I love the Eris. The only reason I didn't buy an Incredible at full price was because of the nice form factor. I love the hardware buttons for end and send. I"m now on my 4th phone. 1st had a trackball issue, had it replaced at the store the following day. The 2nd had a bad GPS chip (that's what they explained it as). It said I was in Florida, Alaska, and California when I was actually in Dallas. The 3rd had dialer lag issues. (I'm guessing this is common as my roommates has it as well). When placing a call, dialed or from a contact, it will sometimes take 2-5 minutes to actually load the calling app and place the call. I just received my 4th phone Tuesday, activated it yesterday, and today at work it decides to do the same lagging when making a call.I was standing out front of an office trying to get the location of my work order from a coworker. It took about 3.5 minutes to finally attempt to make the call. My new Eris barely has any applications installed as well. (Google Voice and Timeriffic is pretty much it) It happens way to frequently to be a signal issue. It happens at different times and in different places (I work for a school district across 4 cities so I travel between them a lot) I have to make a lot of important phone calls, sometimes time sensitive, and if it takes this much time to place one call then I can't do my job.Anyone have any advice, I'm now wanting to try a different phone. I would love another Eris, but I doubt it will work the way it should. Anyone know the policies about these types of cases?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI came from a Moto RZR a few months ago to be an early adopter of the Nexus 1. Soon found that tMobile didn't cut it coverage wise so I returned it. However, I really loved the OS and so I decided to wait for the N1 to come to VZW.Not being able to wait for the N1 I bought an Eris for $10 and signed up for a 2-yr contract. During the couple months or so with the Eris I flashed both leaks. My Eris was working very good indeed with few problems.I then pre-ordered and received the Incredible today. It is a sweet phone however, this is the point I want to make. Once the official 2.1 is available, the Eris is and will continue to be one fine phone. If speed is your cup of tea then upgrade but just realize you'll be able to do the exact same thing on your Eris so think twice before you take the plunge.This is in no way a buyer's remorse statement as I really wanted the speed and it is nice to have everything functioning as it should. I'm sure there will be problems. Remember, the Eris will work just as well in the future minus the speed.

View 15 Replies View RelatedWe're a 3 HTC Droid household. 2 of the units haven't had a problem with WiFi, before or after the upgrade. The third unit was connecting fine before the upgrade, but since it's been having issues. It 'sees' the networks (one open, one protected), but when you try to connect to either, it flashes 'Connecting', then quietly returns to the screen, without actually connecting. The settings seem to be the same between the units (wifi enabled and non-airplane). I've rebooted the unit and the router, re-entered the SSID multiple times (although the open network doesn't work either) with no luck.
