HTC Droid Eris :: Fun Trick - Screen Fades In And Out

Dec 11, 2009

If you lock the phone by pressing end, the screen goes blank instantly. If you press the end button to bring up the lock screen (do not unlock), and then quickly double click the end button, the screen fades in and out. Phone is still locked, so no real use. Discovered this in a meeting today. I forget what the meeting was about and before someone else says it, yes, this is completely pointless.

HTC Desire :: Only Getting GPRS Signals When Surfing Internet

Aug 7, 2010

I've had the Desire a few weeks now and I love it. My problem is that when I surf the mobile internet. I am only getting a GPRS signal? i.e., I am only getting the 'G' symbol and the arrows in the notification bar when I am surfing. I've been various parts of the country surfing the internet but never ever seem to be able to get anything other than GPRS? - I keep reading about 3G,EDGE and HSPDA but it just doesn't seem like my Desire will connect to these, just the bog standard GPRS? Any settings I need to change?

Cos I am thinking that my web pages could be loading a lot quicker. Its just annoying because you read that 3G covers most of the UK, yet everywhere I've been going doesn't seem to show anything other than the single 'G' on the notification bar. (One interesting thing to note is that I downloaded the 3G watchdog app and that app shows you a little 3G notification in the upper bar - strangely enough this shows I have a half decent 3G signal, yet whenever I am surfing I am only getting GPRS).

HTC EVO 4G : Need To Improve Battery Life - Drain While Surfing Web

Jun 17, 2010

After reading countless and countless threads about how to improve your battery life, and trying this hack and that hack, I see no difference in my battery life. I feel I have exhausted all resources, and as my subject states, I'm drained out as my battery on my EVO. You win HTC, I'm throwing in the towel, and accepting the fact that the battery life on this thing sux @$$. I'm done trying all the tricks that are out there. I'll have to live with the 1%/minute battery drain while surfing the web, and doing other normal activities on the phone. 100 mins of web browsing on the EVO and the battery is done! ....unreal.

Seems like since 2.1 my Droid runs hot when doing extended surfing or using the car dock. It gets very hot in the car dock (with GPS and navigation running). Combine that with the heat effects of the sun and the Droid gets very hot. Any one else notice this? Seems like this would be bad for both the Droid and the Droid battery. Normal?

Sprint HTC Hero :: When I Am Surfing Web - Press Home Screen / Get Back To Website?

Say you're surfing the web and are on a website like this forum. You then feel like checking a text message or making a call so you go ahead and do that.

How do you get back to the browser that is still running in the background and to the same website you were working on? I hope there's an easy answer and I'm just stupid.

HTC Desire :: Data Usage With Minimal Internet Surfing - Syncing Problem Or Bug?

Oct 4, 2010

I've tried to see if others have had data problems like mine, but apparently no one has posted on something of my magnitude.

I have 1 Gb of data a month...thats one of the biggest plans in Canada, and I cannot increase (student plan maximum). A few weeks ago, my 3G watchdog alerted me that I was over my 1Gb, and this was in a week span of a new billing cycle. I called Telus and they said it was a mistake, but later on my data usage on their site said I had used 500 Mb on that day!

Since then I had a few more instances where 400 or 500 Mb has been used on a day (almost all outgoing or transmitting data). This has to be a syncing problem or a bug. Not only do I not stream radio or youtube, but I usually only use facebook, twitter, read yahoo email, and weather updates.

I had to get a datablock for the rest of the billing month (since I had used up 2.2 Gb in 10 days) and now I'm monitoring my data wifi usage through data counter widget.

It would be wonderful if I could figure out what app is sucking all of my data...I have about 500 friends on facebook...I also went though and deleted almost all of my emails in my inbox (which was the problem with motorola data usage).

Yesterday, I was on the net on postsecret, and then on facebook (maybe 15 minutes total). Upon returning I saw I had used 510 Mb of transmitting data....

The only advice I got from Telus is to format my phone and start over...No other problems with the HTC desire have been reported to my provider.

HTC EVO 4G :: Data Time Out - Downloading File From Android Marketplace Surfing Web Watching Using GPS?

Jun 25, 2010

I have been having some major problems with my EVO regarding the data. If I use anything that is on the heavy side of bandwidth, like downloading a file from android marketplace, surfing the web, watching sprint tv, using the GPS, etc...the data will just time out for about 3 min at a time. For instance if I am downloading a 5mb app from android marketplace, it will maybe download a megabyte, then it will just stop downloading. If you look at the 3G symbol at the top, it will be white, but only the upstream indicator will be on. I can then open any other internet application on the phone, and nothing will work. It usually lasts for about 3 minutes at a time and happens fairly regularly. It will end up taking me 15-20 min to download a 5mb file from the marketplace. Same thing if I browse a bandwidth heavy site like digg.com. It will just time out after a while and it will just show the upstream indicator as solid and not do anything in any program.

This problem is not location dependent. I have this issue at my apartment, at work, at my friend's house, at the Sprint store...anywhere. I live in South Denver.

In chronological order, this is what I have done to troubleshoot/fix the problem:

First noticed problem
Turned off phone/Turned back on
Rooted and installed custom version of 2.1 w/ Sense
Removed battery (power cycle)
Talk to Sprint cust care. They sent signal over that reactivated the phone (2x)
Did factory reset on phone and formatted SD card
Swapped phone at Sprint store with new one

So even after swapping my EVO with a new EVO from the Sprint store and not fooling with the phone at all, I am still having the same exact issue.

I am absolutely at wit's end with this and I have no idea what to do at this point.

Update (6/25):

I have not been able to test with Wifi yet, but I just had one of my coworkers that has the same phone to replicate the issue on his phone. He is having the same exact problem as me, he just didnt realize it.

We set our phones next to each other and downloaded Space Buster 3D Lite off the Android Marketplace. Mine crapped out about 2mb in and so did his. He wasnt able to surf or do anything else on his phone for a few minutes just like mine.

I'm wondering if this a network problem in our area or if there is a problem with the phone.

Also, I downloaded a continuous ping program and did 3,000 pings with no packet loss, so it seems to only happen with heavy data usage ie. saturating your bandwidth.

HTC EVO 4G :: Wet Screen And Rice Trick

Jul 15, 2010

So I got my phone wet and there are some water spots inside the screen. I quickly pulled the battery out and dried the phone with a towel+shaking the hell out of it. I then got a container and poured white rice into it and threw my phone and submerged it in the rice. A day had passed and I opened the lid and took out my phone to see how it was doing. Well the water spots are still there but I can see that it's drying up, that's the good news. The bad news is that the rice went inside the small holes where the battery cover locks into the phone. Now every time I shake it, I hear the rice rattling inside my phone. Just a heads up if you ever do the rice drying trick. Either leave the battery cover on or cover up the holes with tape or something.

HTC Incredible :: Root Trick - Get Into ADB Three Times

Jun 22, 2010

I figure at this point everyone that hasn't got root yet need as many tips as possible and will try just about anything, so here is another tip. I've got into ADB 3 times (initial root, remove apps & install WirelessN), and each of them was on my first try after rebooting my computer. I'm using the pny sd card(for me it's the 4gb class 4 but 2gb works great as well), which seems to have been by far the most successful card, also I have SDK installed as my driver. The method I used was pretty standard, no clicking in & out the sd card, I just left it in the whole time, I didn't even use loop.bat. I know it's annoying to restart your computer after each attempt, but it worked for me.

HTC EVO 4G :: Trick Way To Improve Battery Life

Jun 18, 2010

OK, I found a simple trick that has dramatically improved my battery life. Up until yesterday, I thought my battery life was pretty poor. About 4-5 hours of heavy usage, and maybe 8-12 hours of moderate to light use. I had tried all the tricks of turning off radios, turning off updates to services, etc. None seemed to make a huge difference.

Yesterday at work, I did what was becoming my normal practice of recharging before leaving so I would have enough battery to last through the evening. But instead of recharging by plugging into an AC outlet, I recharged via USB to my work computer. When I went to bed last night 9 hours after the USB recharge, I still had 70% battery life left after light to moderate use in the evening. This was by far the best performance I've seen.......

When using Sprint visual voicemail and listening to a voice mail just slide your finger left to right or vice versa to the next screen and it will automatically play the next message continuously. Nexus :: Trick N1 Into Thinking Its On WiF Evev Its On 3g?

Apr 10, 2010

On my old iPhone 3gs, once jailbroken you could install an app called VOIPover3g and trick your phone into thinking it was on wifi even if you were only on 3g so you could overcome the restrictions on certain apps like skype (only lets you make calls over wifi) and youtube (better video quality on wifi)

Well, Vonage just came out with a great app for free domestic calls with GREAT call quality, but it only works over WiFi.

How can we trick the N1 into thinking its on WiFi even if its on 3g?
