Oct 14, 2009Is it possible? I was surfing the net on my Hero and someone rang my landline saying they had just tried my mobile but went straight to answer phone?

View 5 RepliesSay you're surfing the web and are on a website like this forum. You then feel like checking a text message or making a call so you go ahead and do that.
How do you get back to the browser that is still running in the background and to the same website you were working on? I hope there's an easy answer and I'm just stupid.
Any new trick to talking and surfing the web? I thought that after rooting that it would be an option. I haven't seen anything yet, let me know if you know where to find it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had the Desire a few weeks now and I love it. My problem is that when I surf the mobile internet. I am only getting a GPRS signal? i.e., I am only getting the 'G' symbol and the arrows in the notification bar when I am surfing. I've been various parts of the country surfing the internet but never ever seem to be able to get anything other than GPRS? - I keep reading about 3G,EDGE and HSPDA but it just doesn't seem like my Desire will connect to these, just the bog standard GPRS? Any settings I need to change?
Cos I am thinking that my web pages could be loading a lot quicker. Its just annoying because you read that 3G covers most of the UK, yet everywhere I've been going doesn't seem to show anything other than the single 'G' on the notification bar. (One interesting thing to note is that I downloaded the 3G watchdog app and that app shows you a little 3G notification in the upper bar - strangely enough this shows I have a half decent 3G signal, yet whenever I am surfing I am only getting GPRS).
After reading countless and countless threads about how to improve your battery life, and trying this hack and that hack, I see no difference in my battery life. I feel I have exhausted all resources, and as my subject states, I'm drained out as my battery on my EVO. You win HTC, I'm throwing in the towel, and accepting the fact that the battery life on this thing sux @$$. I'm done trying all the tricks that are out there. I'll have to live with the 1%/minute battery drain while surfing the web, and doing other normal activities on the phone. 100 mins of web browsing on the EVO and the battery is done! ....unreal.
View 20 Replies View RelatedSeems like since 2.1 my Droid runs hot when doing extended surfing or using the car dock. It gets very hot in the car dock (with GPS and navigation running). Combine that with the heat effects of the sun and the Droid gets very hot. Any one else notice this? Seems like this would be bad for both the Droid and the Droid battery. Normal?

Q1. Is there any APP which can keep me & my device detail invisible while i am surfing / downloading any file via browser or torrent?
Q2. Gmail etc sites are blocked in WiFi , is there any app which can browse to these URL's.
Its crazy how much juice surfing the web takes up. Im sitting here surfing the web watching the battery meter drop atleast 3 points every 5 minutes.. Not ranting.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried to see if others have had data problems like mine, but apparently no one has posted on something of my magnitude.
I have 1 Gb of data a month...thats one of the biggest plans in Canada, and I cannot increase (student plan maximum). A few weeks ago, my 3G watchdog alerted me that I was over my 1Gb, and this was in a week span of a new billing cycle. I called Telus and they said it was a mistake, but later on my data usage on their site said I had used 500 Mb on that day!
Since then I had a few more instances where 400 or 500 Mb has been used on a day (almost all outgoing or transmitting data). This has to be a syncing problem or a bug. Not only do I not stream radio or youtube, but I usually only use facebook, twitter, read yahoo email, and weather updates.
I had to get a datablock for the rest of the billing month (since I had used up 2.2 Gb in 10 days) and now I'm monitoring my data wifi usage through data counter widget.
It would be wonderful if I could figure out what app is sucking all of my data...I have about 500 friends on facebook...I also went though and deleted almost all of my emails in my inbox (which was the problem with motorola data usage).
Yesterday, I was on the net on postsecret, and then on facebook (maybe 15 minutes total). Upon returning I saw I had used 510 Mb of transmitting data....
The only advice I got from Telus is to format my phone and start over...No other problems with the HTC desire have been reported to my provider.
I have been having some major problems with my EVO regarding the data. If I use anything that is on the heavy side of bandwidth, like downloading a file from android marketplace, surfing the web, watching sprint tv, using the GPS, etc...the data will just time out for about 3 min at a time. For instance if I am downloading a 5mb app from android marketplace, it will maybe download a megabyte, then it will just stop downloading. If you look at the 3G symbol at the top, it will be white, but only the upstream indicator will be on. I can then open any other internet application on the phone, and nothing will work. It usually lasts for about 3 minutes at a time and happens fairly regularly. It will end up taking me 15-20 min to download a 5mb file from the marketplace. Same thing if I browse a bandwidth heavy site like digg.com. It will just time out after a while and it will just show the upstream indicator as solid and not do anything in any program.
This problem is not location dependent. I have this issue at my apartment, at work, at my friend's house, at the Sprint store...anywhere. I live in South Denver.
In chronological order, this is what I have done to troubleshoot/fix the problem:
First noticed problem
Turned off phone/Turned back on
Rooted and installed custom version of 2.1 w/ Sense
Removed battery (power cycle)
Talk to Sprint cust care. They sent signal over that reactivated the phone (2x)
Did factory reset on phone and formatted SD card
Swapped phone at Sprint store with new one
So even after swapping my EVO with a new EVO from the Sprint store and not fooling with the phone at all, I am still having the same exact issue.
I am absolutely at wit's end with this and I have no idea what to do at this point.
Update (6/25):
I have not been able to test with Wifi yet, but I just had one of my coworkers that has the same phone to replicate the issue on his phone. He is having the same exact problem as me, he just didnt realize it.
We set our phones next to each other and downloaded Space Buster 3D Lite off the Android Marketplace. Mine crapped out about 2mb in and so did his. He wasnt able to surf or do anything else on his phone for a few minutes just like mine.
I'm wondering if this a network problem in our area or if there is a problem with the phone.
Also, I downloaded a continuous ping program and did 3,000 pings with no packet loss, so it seems to only happen with heavy data usage ie. saturating your bandwidth.
When I'm on a call and a 2nd call comes in, my phone doesn't ring or anything. Is there anyway to change this so that I know when I have a call waiting without having to look at the screen (which is usually pressed up against my ear)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had two HTC hero's on T-Mobile, and on my old one I used to be able to check the time I made or received a call on the 'call history' display. I had that phone stolen and got a replacement that is identical but running newer software, I think. All is great, except for the fact that it no longer displays the time a call was made or received in the history. I see this as a very important feature to have on a phone, so how can I get it to work properly? At present it just says the date - no time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone know how to see the time of call instead of just the date in my Hero's Call History?
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn my previous phone it had a "full lock" feature on it that when a text message or phone call came in it would show all stars on the screen and require my password before you could answer the call or view the text message does the hero have that option or is there an app I can download?
I tried the pattern lock thing it has but if a call comes through or a text message comes through it still allows you to answer and/or view the message without entering the lock pattern..
I use Google Voice (love it) primarily because of it's visual voicemail on my Droid. I do have a Google Voice number, and I'm trying to decide whether to set the Droid app to "make calls using Google Voice" or not.
I have no problem with giving out a different number, and my placed calls seeing the GV number in caller ID.
My question is, does this affect how the call is actually connected, from a quality standpoint? I tired a call both ways, and the sound quality seemed a little bit different. But then, I am an obsessive compulsive weirdo.
Is there any difference in call quality or routing between making a native Verizon call and a Google Voice call on Droid? (Like, does Google voice actual use 3G to connect to Google server over the internetz, then place the phone call?)
I've noticed recently that after I receive a call, there is a picture of the green Android in various poses (eating hot-dog, playing baseball etc). It usually (but not always) carries a small Google advert across the top. Is this normal

Just a heads up for anyone interested.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an app that changes the number being called and updates the call log after the call to keep the original number. In the emulator (and on most devices) everything works fine but on the HTC Hero I can't seem to update the number in the Call Log. I run an update but nothing happens.Until recently I was using Android 1.5 on the Hero and I could work around this issue by deleting the log entry and creating a new one with all the same data, but after upgrading to 2.1 I can still delete the old entry but when I insert the new one the only info that gets inserted are the phone number, call type and time of call. The contact name and number type don't get saved and it always shows on the log as an unknown number. It sounds to me like HTC's sense UI breaks the call log somehow. Has anyone seen this issue and has a workaround for it? Or is there something I might be missing about the call log? Ultimately it's a database, right? So there must be a way to do it if I have access to the database.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy main gripe, is that the display turns off during a call. My instinct has already been to push the On/Off button to turn the display back on, but this also hangs up the call.I also find it VERY cumbersome that by default the numeric keypad is not there, a ALOT of calls are "push 1.. push 2 " type automated calls.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Hero user in Taiwan.I have encountered an issue with the Call History the phone provides. It only provides the date, followed by yesterday, 2 days ago etc. However, I need to know what time I made and received the calls. I know the information is embedded in the phone somewhere but I can't find it. For example: I receive a call say 3:30pm and I tell my caller I'll arrive in 20 minutes. There is traffic, and I forgot when they called me. The phone will only tell me that they called today which is useless.second complaint. The phone does not tell me my talk time. Is there an application that tells me the minutes I have compiled as well as the time talked for my last call?I've tried downloading Exact Call Log. But it gives me this error message:The Application Exact Call Log (process at.ecl.exactcalllog) has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try Again.
